I rewatched hxh a few times, and realized their are multiple moments where they hint he was kind of a sociopath and ging is even worse cuz when you think about it the second Gon was born he dumped him and then left him clues that sent him to places that he 100% would of died multiple times, if it wasn't for friends, enemies decding not to kill him, and just dumb luck, it's almost as if in ging's head if Gon died at any point he didn't even deserve to call himself his son.

I said cold and calculated killers and used hisoka and illumi for a reason they are true psychopaths because they dont care about anything but their own agenda and empathy be damned to them, and yes I agree not all killers are psychopaths some are sociopaths and some are normal people with the full range of emotions and bonds but probably did it self defense more so than just a random killing spree to satiate their bloodlust. But all in all my point was the psychopaths are practically unemotional beings and cold to the core. Where sociopaths are still capable of actually caring about people in their close circles. And that gon would overall fit a sociopath before a psychopath.

No, there is definitely some hypocrisy. But it is for the reason you listed. Gon's morality is based on the moment. It makes him flexible but prone to being morally inconsistent. Basically he is a child whom has never had a strong authority figure to pattern himself after. Curiosity and self interest being his main motivators in deciding right and wrong up until Gin was forced to become involved.

Every single of Gon's masters has stated that Gon has a Beast inside that scare them. Gon doesnt have a reaction over death, he only gets mad if the person getting hurt he considere it a friend. He has stated himself that he is egoistic, and this extend to wanted to do things by his own way even if this hurt him or his friends, we can see this more clearly during the GREED island arc, like you mention during the bomber fight but also during the dodge ball game, where he compromise Killua's hand because that who he feels confortable with, yeah he make it sound very pretty and all but at the end of the line Killua's hands where at risk and he had another solution, he just decided not to take it because he didnt want to. He is soo reckless that the Phantom Troupe wanted to recruit him. And lets not forget how he threat to kill Komugi to make Pitou shut up.

This is such a great explanation of Gon's psyche. He can become truly sociopathic. He even compromised Killua's hands, and my boy Killua, being the kind hearted boy he is (plus, he actually seemed kinda codependent right there) didn't mind it and even thought of it as something only a best friend would do. Which shows just how much Gon means to him, whilst Gon didn't really care how much damage Killua's hands recieved, and shrugged it off with an "I'm sorry." Gon is unhinged, and I would definitely prefer him as a friend than as an enemy. I just hope things look good for Killua as the manga continues.

Gon also displayed severe apathy to the plight of others that weren't his friend, including their deaths. You're led to believe that it's just his childlike wonderment that skews his perspective on the world, when really he's just an immensely selfish individual person who never learned how to genuinely care about people and things that can't help him further his goals. No way that's true, he learned a lot from Kite regarding multiple perspectives when Kite had to kill a bear to protect him. He doesn't judge others because of this, only what they do and if it makes sense. I think it's why he doesn't like the spiders because he saw them as senseless killers. He does care about others even to a fault. It's basically the reason why he makes a lot of friends and gets along with everyone.

Thank you for pointing this out! There were several breadcrumbs to hint that Gon is not, was not, and will never be a Mary Sue, but more of a wild card character... for better AND for worse. So many don't pick up on that, and miss that Gon is closer to a ravenous beast than a happy-go-lucky human. But that's part of what gonna make him an exemplary hunter! Good story is good. :3

All because his father was a deadbeat, who instead of just staying away, actively encouraged a young boy/man to come find him with no guidance in world of violence he knowingly lead him in to. His father instilled this moral and personal compass in. Having to fight, win and live on his own terms, to the point of unyielding to compromise. Thus willingness to sacrifice his arm and eveything that he is.

This was what really got me into the whole show. Every protagonist I saw until now had this really righteous and heroic nature no matter how they grew up in because hooray plot armor So I really like how Gon is well.. I'd say he's morally grey. He judges people based on how they treat the people he likes and cares about. A murderer that has hurt my friends and taken advantage of us?? Bad. A murderer but has helped me save my friends?? Good. This also kinda shows his nature as a child too. Let's not forget that he was 12 when the show first started. He's curious, and having grown up with beasts basically, he has kind of a warped view on most things. Things aside, he's still precious and I love this spiky haired lil munchkin💕

I just thought Gon was a logical fighter whose nature and instincs were tempered by wild animals he hung around with. In a situation where you can heal any wound as long as you're not dead, it just makes sense to treat your bodily health as disposable.

I think this is a bad take Most of your reasonings can be summed up as pure hearted and determined Y'all reaching by changing the context to fit your argument Gon was innocent, most of the animals he encounter were nicer than humans so that argument falls off Gon cared more about winning because if he failed he would never meet his father, how is that unhinged? Gon not getting scared of Killua is also proof of his innocence as from that point he thought they were all like killua

Yeah, I feel that he is a being that was caused by or from the dark continent. Or, the freecss family true and their unhuman abilities and power were shaped by living or thriving in the dark continent. I can't when gon and killua may go to the Dark continent. Though I can wait years if I need to.

I always thought Killua and gon had parallel stories just of the opposite side of the coin. While killua starts out cold and callus he becomes more like what gon used to be and gon who was always hopeful and kind becomes rage filled and lost in despair. Idk if it was always planned this way but hxh is such an interesting show because the main character isn't really the main character. Everyone is at different times meaning gons character arc can be a lot different than a typical Manga where the main lead always has to thrive and survive for the story to continue.
