Greg surprises his longtime channel editor, John, with a day of fishing out on the lake in Maine. An accident derails their plans, but they are able to recover and finish up the unforgettable adventure with a delicious multi-species catch and cook fish dinner! Greg and John BOTH hook fish they've never caught OR eaten before! It's an episode filled with first-time experiences!
The Editors' Channel: ‪@skatintheline‬
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

John (AKA Rollie) the Editor here! Hope you all enjoyed the video! I had TONS of fun out there with Greg and learned a lot, so thank you Zach and Greg for getting me out of the office! I appreciate all the support from viewers, despite my lack of knowledge and many (sometimes HUGE) mistakes. I'll definitely be doing more fishing on the Skatin' the Line channel in the future. Maybe a little "Skate & Fish with Fowler" out on the ice? If you're interested in more Maine adventures, I tested out some Nordic Skates on some thin first ice last week kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebCSlNVknKnFXXk.html

I imagine your boss has insurance John, though Zack made more money on this channel with it being different with you in it lol. I bet that fish thought you were coming at him with everything you had this time, that you were toying with him the first time lolol. Are you sure you guys didn't use a broken camera for content? Tell the truth now lololololol I once dumped a canoe not a kayak, I had boots, leather jacket, dehydrated fruit was the only thing that was wasted. The water was 40F The leather shrunk some. Also, close to shore when it happened. I had a snag and twisted my body a little too much.

Hey... Life doesn't understand the word "not". Words are important because... Life gives us what we ask for! 🙌 Instead of "I'm good at (not) dropping cameras in the water" 😂 ... a better worded phrase is "I'm good at keeping cameras dry". ❤ Always consider the positive side of a situation. Life knows our thoughts also. Navigating the nuances is what makes this "Game of Life" so fun! 👊❤ You handled it all so well. All is good.

I’ve always been taught to put your casting hand a bit in front of the reel . Use your pointer finger to hold the line . Use the other hand open the bail. Then when you want to release the line just let your pointer finger go. It’s super easy once you get used to it. I think that’s why they have the handle section in front of the reel.

Casting tip for John. Pin the line against the rod with your right index finger. Open the bail. Whip the rod back behind you and then forward (with authority!) and point your finger at the spot where you want the bait to go, as you unpinch the line. It should only require one hand to cast a open faced spinning reel, once you open the bail. Everyone in Kentucky agrees that you and Greg both cast funny. LOL

Next time, don't grab the line when you have a bigger fish than you think you can handle. Instead, loosen the knob on the top of the reel (the drag) and let the fish have as much line as it wants. Once it slows down, reel in some, until it starts fighting again. When that happens, let it take line again. Once it slows, start reeling. Repeat this process until you've reeled it in
