It is one heck of a machine. It's tough to keep up with only 2 people. It can make bigger pieces with the adjustable wedge. These pieces were going for bundle wood, so we were keeping them smaller. Thank you for the compliment, and check out some of our full length splitting videos.

Very cool. We have been splitting fire wood for heating on our farm for more than 100 years, in a modern fashion for 50. We gauge the speed by the entire process. Felling blocking splitting and piling all take place in the bush. Splitting and piling at the same time. As we split we pile right off the splitter. The wood never hits the ground. All the wood dries where it is cut and split. When we need it we haul directly from the bush piles to the winter storage area for burning. We eliminate allot of unnecessary handling this way.
@IronOakSawmill
@IronOakSawmill Жыл бұрын
That is one of the biggest challenges when it comes to firewood. Reducing the number of times you handle it. Sounds like you have a great plan for dealing with that. We are trying to set up a system to reduce handling. It's seem to be ever evolving at this point.

Sort of wish that the pusher were designed to over travel the wedges by an inch, either with cut outs in the plate or moderately spring loaded pins. It sucks to see good Lumber being wasted as far wood
@IronOakSawmill
@IronOakSawmill Жыл бұрын
But these logs were not fit for lumber. We have salvaged more ash in the past few years than most. Mills overlooked ash as "poor man's oak" and tossed it aside. We realized that it will be gone in just a few years, so we milled thousands of board feet, and have more logs to mill in the log yard. We keep the best for lumber, and live edge slabs, and the rest for firewood. It's a shame the tree will be gone soon. We are happy in the knowledge that we have saved so much of it for future generations to enjoy.

I could have done that with an axe in less time than the machine did it. I grew up splitting wood. We burned about three cords a year.

I'm fast too bro but this beast puts out five pieces of wood with each stroke. You and I are faster than a regular splitter but not this one. Just cuz you insist doesn't make it so. This one's got us bro. I'm sure you like the workout as much as I do though. Check out my other comment on here. Use big tires to hold your rounds and split like a mad man. Happy splitting!
@IronOakSawmill

@@topshelf65ace86 it's fast. The workout comes from trying to keep it fed. You aren't working hard to split the wood, but 3 good people are needed to keep this thing running at full potential.

One would think so. Unless we have a conveyor to take the wood away, into a dump trailer, where we can transport it to a customer, or a stacking location, where we can lift the dump trailer, reach into the trailer from a standing position, retrieve the wood, and stack it in the proper location. Check out some of our other videos, featuring our conveyor. Also, while one is splitting, the other can grab the wood, before it falls to the ground, and toss it into the trailer, or stack it directly where it should go. Lots of different options. We just aren't showing them in this video.

These are being split to customer request. We can go bigger with this wedge, or switch to the 4 or 6 way wedge. It's good to market to multiple consumers. Much better business plan. Thank you for your comment.
