Hey friends, so we are NOT selling our boat. We just got home! But, we've had a lot of conversations with those of you struggling with purchasing right now or wanting to know if it's a good time to buy. The world is such a different place from when we bought our boat. This is why we reached out to our old friend Kent to get an insider perspective on the market. Hope it helps those of you thinking of buying right now.

I work in the RV industry (restore and renovate airstreams) it's exactly the same right now for RV's. People who paid $90,000 for a 2019 airstream are selling used for over $110,000!!! People want to get outside and don't want to wait for the factory delays of up to a year, so they'll pay more, which is driving market values up. It's a sellers market all around right now.

It’s nice to see Kent again. I noticed the listings in my email have dropped and I feel like it’s because they are maybe getting scooped up so fast they aren’t making it to the mass listing.

When this whole economic disaster implodes in the next few months. Used Cats will be selling at 50 percent of there values today. Monohulls the owners will pay to have you sail it away. Kinda like when oil hit -40 a barrel. Today i just bought my 3rd freezer unit and added another years can and dry food storage on my 37 foot Monohull so only worth anything to me. Stack it to the decks guys cause we aint seen nothing yet in this plandemic. Wait till the 5th or 6th wave hits and the new just confirmed mink strain of covid goes exponential. Not a joke we got more comming down the line Cruising globally is pretty much over untill tbe politicians decide they have had enough..and everyone is hungry and bankrupt.

We said the same thing & and a yr ago bought an rv and hit the road fulltime. We're loving life on the road and my thoughts are I'd rather look back at my life and say "Heck Yeah I Did That" instead of "I Wish I Did That".🤙

I've been struggling for 20 years to break away, but every year I'm farther behind. The ONLY reason I'm not is economic. I still owe on a house I haven't owned in years and months spent between jobs. I'm more than $100k behind where I was 20 years ago and I didn't have $100k then!

Definitely a sellers market. I just bought a boat and had to pay premium and travel to find it due to the climate in the market right now. Same boat was going for a quarter of the price less last year and when you see something right now you cannot wait the buyer out for a lower price. Also happening in the RV market. Put my RV up for sale and was mobbed immediately and sold in a few days.

I own a 56’Catamaran owners version and have been sailing for a few years and love the adventure. The issue I have now is that this is a sellers market and the price for my boat is more than what I have invested. So i am rethinking the boating life, and more of the motorcycle, hiking, or expat life. I love what i am doing and love the constant change of scenery and relaxed life as well as the constant maintenance(AKA working in paradise). I have met some amazing people in this adventure and look forward to circumnavigating but I am still young and have the ability later in life when the market changes to a buyers market to shift back. You two ruined this for me as you stated life does not change so grab it now. Damn you. :)

I'm so glad you did this episode. I have been bitten by the cruising bug and have been tracking bluewater cat prices and they up and appear to be going up. The Privilege 585's that sailing Zatara travels on have gone up 15 to 20% since they purchased theirs. I think there are other factors driving up cost. 1) Hurricane damaged boats being replaced. This creates scarcity as well as a whole bunch of charter boats that were scrapped and never sold or are sitting on stands waiting to be repaired. 2) The price of new boats keeps going up. With so many boats in the $1.5 to $2 M price point new, older, well-built boats keep going up. It's like single-engine airplanes. Cessna's from the 1970's are now trading for 10x what they cost new, because buying a new one is $1M.

Howdy Jason and Nikki from Dallas TX. My Wife and I just bought a travel trailer back in May. The RV industry is in the same position as the Marine industry due to the pandemic. People have been buying RV's like crazy this year, the factories are back logged due to the pandemic and new RVs are becoming harder to find. We have noticed in the State Parks in Texas that most of the rigs we're seeing have buyer tags on them, we are also finding it more and more difficult to get reservations in the State Parks as they have been limiting capacity and more and more people are camping because they don't want to fly or stay in a hotel during the pandemic. I was wanting to buy a Catamaran but I just could not get her to buy off on the idea so I compromised and went along with her dream of a travel trailer. We are planing on retiring early next year and setting out to see the country by land, we will probably upgrade our tow vehicle at that time and also move up to a 5th wheel trailer.

Your broker / salesman Kent has truly embodied the phrase "service AFTER the sale". You don't see this much in any sales driven industry. Most car dealerships don't know your name after taking delivery.
@geneclow32973 жыл бұрын
These are interesting times. If considering a boat that you cannot easily travel to visually inspect, request 50 non-pro pictures. If longer than 50 feet request an additional 10 pictures per foot. NOT FROM THE SELLER. Request these from a local shop. Marine technicians, albeit there is a significant shortage love to do something different - and this doesn't get their hands dirty. open a work order and pay for this service.. WHATEVER you pay them it is less than the time and expense to visit the boat. IF THEY MISS ANY PORTION OF THE BOAT. You will notice. Ask them to go back and ask them why. The last thing you want is 50 more pro pictures. I have requested 50 pictures since digital cameras and email can easily handle this event in my industry. Corporate Jet Sales. It will easily work in marine and RV as well. What if they won't produce 50+ pictures - find the next asset.

People want to get away. Besides boats, RVs, swimming pools, and houses (people moving out of cities and working remotely) are all selling like crazy right now. The common theme is “Money Pit”.

Well I know I live in the deep South. The very tip point of South Carolina. Some of our largest land developers clients with very expensive lots have been selling like crazy. The first week the coronavirus lockdown was lifted they sold 20% more lots than their highest selling week ever. The people told them that they’re getting all their money out of the stock markets, banks, IRAs. They’re investing in land and houses instead. Now this class of people would be fairly rich people. So that’s the report Down here in the deep South. Oh and one of our largest contractors from Florida said “there is not a storage locker left in the state of Florida to be rented”?

Outremere...Overseas...good name, good idea! As far as “doing it now” goes I can certainly agree to that. After watching the Wynns RV videos I finally had enough of sitting around waiting for the right time. Actually the right time was years ago but other things were going on and I didn’t have videos like Nikki & Jase’s to encourage me to just do it. When I started watching theirs and others like it that’s all it took. The trailer we have isn’t everything I want but it’s a step. And maybe we’ll trade up and maybe we won’t. But we put ourselves in motion. Now if I could just pry my hub out of this spot and start traveling. I can’t seem to impress on him that the plan wasn’t supposed to be just a change of address. We’ll see.

Marine engineers are flat out, try getting a diesel mechanic, outboard repair service people are flat out waiting lists to get work done. I know 3 people who sold their monohulls in less than 2 days and had a list of buyers waiting for call backs. One had to be trucked out because of travel restrictions, but the buyers are doing that. All mostly to go anywhere but sit around waiting. There is a simple maxim. Good boats sell fast. Remember Good Boats Sell Fast - that's the title. I've not seen a good boat on the list of many brokers because they are gone already.

Good video guys. Marine industry as well as the RV industry is getting hammered right now, sales on both new and used units are going crazy. There is an RV dealer in Coldwater Michigan, Haylett RV that since the pandemic has hit, cannot keep new or quality used RV’s on its lot, they are pretty much sold out, and when something does come in, it’s gone in less than a week. People are stir crazy, not being able to vacation like normal has led to mega sales in boats and RV’s as a way to give people some freedom to vacation. Wishing you all the best getting your home back on the water! Stay safe. 👍😀

During this pandemic, one gets a lot of time to think about one's life. Due to pure boredom - during the lockdown here in Denmark - I watched a lot sailing videos. First was binge watching SV Delos videos - that took 3 weeks. Much later - a month or so ago - I decided to built my own *steel* boat (I like steel) - because the only boat I can afford is older than 1980, meaning that everything on the boat is as old as when I was 10 years old. Currently I am hunting down a boat plan. It isn't easy, because my red flags are "helmstation is only outside and/or unprotected", "spade rudder", and "any kind of keel that is a or look like a fin keel". I prefer a boat with a twin keel, and a *modern* junk rig, where modern makes it good at sailing windward.

Catamarans are well out of my price range, but I've been looking for a 46-52' monohull on the west coast for the last two years. I can tell you that boat inventory evaporated after the pandemic - boats sold crazy fast. Broker after broker out here told me it was a "red hot" 'market. Boats that I'd noted on Yachtworld for years suddenly went "Pending" - even some ugly ones. Now prices have gone up, and boats requiring some major work (teak decks need replacing, etc.) are selling fast. At least on the west coast, it is definitely a "seller's market".

Very pertinent topic and entertaining video - thanks guys! The only thing I would say is that however busy Kent and JC maybe - and they are based in a big and boat-centric state - I have paid close attention to cat prices and availablity since you guys got out on the water (it was our dream to have a boat when you were still in the RV). Leopard 46's and 48's are at an all time high re availabilty in my opinion (if you look online at the most popular site - you know the one!) and the only 48's selling have been the ex charter boats. The US and Australia are highest for prices and there is no way anyone can travel internationally to go view one or pick up a bargain anywhere else. As for blue water cruising - surely it's a complete no-go at present? The world is going into 2nd lockdown and so I don't see that changing anywhere in the near future. I love the positivity of living in the now - great if you can get a boat locally and get out there - absolutely DO IT !!!!!!! - but a new big boat and world travel ? - for get it !! (hate to be political - until you get your jab and digital passport that is - and then maybe not even). Have fun and be happy guys - thanks for the content!! Fair winds from NS Canada Phil.

So similar story here in Australia. I've worked in my office maybe 6 days since March 2020, it's now November 2020. Working from home for many of the 12.5 million adult workers (those that still have jobs) is the "new" normal. So what do you do when you DON'T have to commute to work? Move out of the CBD to the country or the coast. To buy or rent in the regions there are from 25 to 50 people for every rental property in New South Wales. I expect it is a similar story elsewhere in the country. I don't think we in Australia will completely go back to the old ways, but there will be a much greater opportunity for people to be able to live near where they work. This will be a great boon to service workers who normally cannot afford to live near the CBD (prices are dropping), people like me can work anywhere there is high speed internet. Some still need to work in offices, but this is maybe 20 percent of the workforce. So Kent is spot on, it is a sellers market whether it's a boat, van or regional getaway.
