Great information. I probably spent 6 hours on Saturday wash, clay mitt, wash again dry, applied the last coat as recommended applied 3 coats to the top and 2 coats to the sides. It’s a beautiful shine. We are full time RVers, hopefully this weekend we will be able to start on our RV, 42’ painted 5th wheel. What started all this we are at a new park with live oak trees. This time of year there’s too much pollen. I was washing our Chevy Traverse every 3 days. We will see how this is will hold up. I’ll use the recommended maintenance by The Last Coat also to keep it looking good. I sure like your idea of no wipe drying.

I ceramic coated my Ram. DIY took a long time about 6 hours using CarPro Cquartz. Does it look good yep. Water almost bounced off. Is it better than straight wash and wax with quality wax I don’t think so. There is no way I would pay the 1,500 to 2,500 I got quoted for the job. Thanks for sharing Andrew. Izzy

I have nothing against ceramic coatings, I actually like them to be honest but I find them to be high maintenance at least compared to traditional protectants. It seems like these days there are coatings for your ceramic coatings and the whole market has really inflated past what I feel should be the core appeal of the product. Yes they last a long time, but only if maintained, they bead well but need to be topped up, they offer protection but it's not wipe and forget. My largest complaint is with topping up coatings, to me it defeats the purpose from a longevity stand point. If you constantly top up the coating you are getting the water characteristics of the topper not so much the coating, the maintenance (for me at least) ruins the convenience, and longevity. For example if I put a product like Fuso Coat sealant on my car I have some protection, but if I top it up regularly I'm not using that base as my protection as much as the topper in the long run. Without topping the coating performance drops a good bit and within 4-6 months that is roughly as long as a good sealant lasts. Than you have to maintain it, if this is also done with a good sealant you reach about the same period as you can expect a coating to last. 12 months is realistic for a coating (before areas start to fail), some will argue and say that's absurd 2-3 years is possible in a climate controlled test lab so that has to apply to a vehicle sitting out in the sun all day in the elements. I could put a ceramic coating on my car, or I could put a quality sealant, doesn't matter, but if both are well maintained and topped up a year really isn't unreasonable for either. Several high quality spray sealants (or even spray ceramics) which can last months and be applied in mins after cleaning a vehicle. A coating requires the same maintenance to preform at it's peak for that same period of time, folks value coatings for their performance they will want to keep it at that level. In the end both (at least to me) provide the same protection, require the same maintenance, but coatings go about it in a more complicated manner. TL:DR If you use a high quality sealant, and maintain it to the same level of a ceramic coating with a high quality spray wax/spray ceramic it will last roughly as long as the "topper" is what will suffer and take the abuse day to day for that extended period of time more than which ever base applied under it (sealant/ceramic coating). Tho in all fairness coatings typically offer a lot more gloss to the paint.
