so much depth to analyze just in this one episode from the ship to how everyone reacts ..this is why one piece is king of anime...it gives the ship depth but also a role in these arcs and it did not come out of nowhere..its been foreshadowed since skypeia plus is the divide between usopp and luffy caused sorta by franky and then all come together to help robin whose willing to die for the and we got it back on syrup village early on so its the long game...interesting how when you plan an arc it can have payoffs that make sense and hit hard instead of random asspulls....and it hits cause of how much has happened since aokiji showed up till now...the crew all react the right way you expect...it hits so hard to see nami and chopper cry...

i dont think its the boat's "spirit". its a klabauterman, a fairy type of spirit that picks one boat and houses it. it is its own entity, it just chose that place to house, its not the boat's spirit, you get what i mean?

@@tanko.reactions176 its semantics. Klabauterman is just a name. The show has never gone into more detail than what we've already seen. You can still interpret it as Klabauterman giving the ships spirit shape and allowing it's personality to express oneself.

Thats like when stories tell about santa claus or gods can only exist with the believe of the people. The spirit, the klabauterman, continues to live within the thousand sunny. The special episode of merry picks that good up at the end, but franky also talks about it post enies lobby when he hands the ship over.

@@dariuslegacy3406 not saying its not a spirit per say, i am ssaying its not the >boat's< spirit... you get what i mean? a human has 3 things - body, soul and spirit.. a boat does not have a "spirit", so its not the "boat's" spirit... it is however a fairy spirit, meaning its detached from the boat, but it choses to house the boat.. so, it is not the boat (merry) speaking, its just a klabauterman, it could have chosen another boat to dwell on.. then merry would have never "spoken"...

As a person who doesn't have much emotions, Death of Merry was one of those moments i almost cried. Also for poetic purposes i would like to say that, It was not only World Governments flag that was burned, It was theirs also because when Merry's funeral was happening their own flag got burned also and flew like a paper into the air.

For some additional cultural info: In Japan snow symbolises death. Snow falls whenever someone beloved is dying and their soul is about to leave their body. Sailors both in Japan and the West believe that ships have souls. The the ship you travel with is more than just a ship, it's a member of your crew, and you should take care of it. And throughout the first few arcs Oda added little bits and pieces that indicated that, yes, Merry had a soul. Merry might have been beaten up and broken, but at the end of the day, "she" held out for them and came through for them when it really mattered. She loved the crew and the crew loved her back. And whenever a beloved person dies in front loved ones snow inevitably falls.

it still happens more likely to a devil fruti suer. Cause they bosot their bodies with "non natural" strength, they don't realsie so fast when they overexhaust their body. And then it hits them harder cause they ignore it for the lognest time. Not just luffy, liek when lucci tried to go after luffys gear 3 punch and he realised just far later how hard it hit him. But then he fought again and moved as it was nothing.

Merry is actually a goat which ate ship-ship fruit Model: caravel but when she knew she was going to die she ate another fruit, ship-ship fruit Model: warship. Guys I know you passed this already but there were no admirals there. Don forget Robin said there are only three and they're the strongest force in the Navy only under the fleet admiral who's in charge of the entire navy. There were vice admirals but not one admiral.
