Here's my take on this new digital welder as an owner of the original Tig 200 AC/DC. Which is pretty good choice for an amateur & fairly comparable to your diversion but still has more features. pros: ~infinitely adjustable amperage w/LED display ~pulse ~frequency control ~2T "&" 4T ~spot mode may be useful ~flex head torch ~slope controls ~extended pre/post flow times ~improved pedal ~much more compact in size cons: ~only works on 240 unlike the regular Tig 200 which is dual voltage ~can stick weld but doesn't come with stinger ~appears to have lower duty cycle ~poor gas regulator ~still uses a non-standard Tig torch connection ~costs $300 more; which for a beginner could go into a tank, helmet gloves, etc...

I like what you are doing. I love using Pyrex glass cups (gas lens) when welding. The arc is so much easier to see. Less dunking the tungsten. Again, great videos. Get the Goose running! We want to here it.

I made a tig from a little DC arc/stick machine with variable current control. The machine itself was a 200A amico power for $170 on ebay, $70 for a tig torch/cable, $20 for a regulator, $250 for argon (bought a 80cf tank), then $20 for a sewing machine pedal and parts to make a pedal control for the tig. I tapped into the over current protection for a torch mounted on/off switch as well. Basically goes like this: set max current on inverter, enable over current protection, touch tungsten to surface, disable over current protection, and boom you got lift start tig with pedal control. Now i just need to put in a electronic valve for the argon. Sure it's not ideal, but for a poor college student who needs to weld in patch panels in my rust infested Saab, it does a fantastic job. I haven't had the chance to do any thicker material besides some horseshoes, but the arc is stable and its a $275 tig (w/o gas)

Thanks Jeb for a very informative video. I have been welding professionally for 40 years and love to tig weld. I have done a lot of cool projects over the years and I am nearing retirement. I want to add a nice full feature tig to my home workshop/garage. I think you did a great job with the intro of the Eastwood digital 200. I too have been hooked on gas lenses for a long time. They just work better in all conditions. The fan that turns on and off is just something that can fail and let your machine burn up. All the machines I have used in the shop have water cooled torches and always on fans.Continued success with your endeavors.

Kyle you can also use the pulse to go back over the weld sometimes without filler wire to make it look really nice. Get your puddle started then use the Tig torch to weld across the previous weld at a constant rate. This will create the ripple effect everyone likes. It looks like you've got the just of it so far. Dab and move dab and move will create the ripple effect as well. Keep it up looks good.

i bought my eastwood tig about six yrs ago and its been a very reliable machine. this new machine with all the added features and a decent foot pedal really make me wish i could trade mine in on it. to be perfectly honest i have never felt hampered by my machine it will do almost anything a home shop could want from a tig welder. i use a miller dynasty 300dx with all the bells and whistles on a regular basis and most of the time my settings are what can be duplicated by the eastwood. i can also vouch for eastwoods cust service , its top notch.

Good welds. Nice welder... One thing I would for sure recommend. Is a Respirator and perhaps a fan in ur shop if ur gonna weld Aluminum.. there's lots of evidence to show that Aluminum vapor causes Alzheimer's. Or other brain diseases. There's nothing wrong with T.I.G. welding.. I've done it also. In welding school. It's a good process.. just gotta have good ventilation and a Respirator.

I bought the lincoln square wave tig 200 and I'd definitely recommend it. The features are great and I love the ergonomics of the foot pedal, flex head torch and stick electrode holder. I can't see a difference in the arc compared to the millers we use at school. Jody at weldingtipsandtricks did a great review of its pros and cons. Another much cheaper option is to get an old stick welding machine and rig it up for scratch start tig

I know this is an old video... but I just keep kicking myself for buying the wrong TIG welder... Back in 2014 I bought their TIG200DC welder... I was being cheap... Well, all these years, it has been sitting there without use... Now I am starting back working on my projects and have the need to also weld aluminum... Now I am considering getting this model... Thank you for the video. Looking around, this still looks like the best option for the price.

I have an Everlast 185DV and it kicks ass. I bought it to do AC AU welding and it does not fall short. For about $1000 all in with gas and pedal I'm jazzed. This is the best bet out there for the money.

I saw a review on the eastwood unit and its hard to beat for the price. The arc is very very refined for AU work according to Chuckey2009. He said it is a little unorthodox in its setup but works well -- duty cycle is a little on the low side but again - unlikely to be a problem. The only reason I went with the185DV over the EW unit is the known quality (5 year warranty) and stick weld features. But the bottom line is, if it does what you need that unit to do and you paid inside your budget - its the right one.

At 65 I've been welding for over a half-century. My Father started me at maybe 12 years old. (BTW ... He's 95 now and still on his own.) Point is, I don't give a rat's ass about switching over to TIG at this stage of my life, although I do admire how pretty some of the work can be. I just wanted to take the time to compliment you personally on an excellent review ! You seemed focused and honest. I liked your attitude. God, and the Devil both, really are in the details. Other than the noise from the continuously running fan, I would prefer this over "fan on demand" like Miller. A lot of people prefer the fan on demand for the quiet running while welding. I get it, but in my shop, I have all sorts of noise like the radio, traffic on the road, etc. I prefer a continuous running fan for it offers a higher duty cycle. It doesn't let the electronics heat up in the first place. Just my opinion. Fan on demand is a gimmick that Miller thought of.

I went from my Diversion 165 to the Lincoln Squarewave Tig 200 about a year ago. The first complaint I had about the Lincoln was the constant running fan. Once you get used to it, it's not that bad. I don't even notice it any more. I am kind of bummed that Eastwood didn't have this Digital 200 at the time I was buying. I would have liked a few of the standard features on it for what I do, but the Lincoln is a great welder.

I tried switching from a Diversion 180 to an Everlast PowerPro 164SI. I thought the Everlast would be good because it is a multiprocess machine that does tig/stick/plasma. I sold my Diversion to a buddy and bought the Everlast after watching Mr.Tig's reviews of it. Right from the start, I HATED the everlast. It has all the same features the Eastwood machine does, it even has the exact same torch with finger control and pedal. I just didn't like the way it welded at all. I don't know what it is about it, but I can lay awesome welds with the Diversion, and mediocre ones with the Everlast. So, that being said, I bought my Diversion back from my buddy, and now I solely use the Everlast as a plasma cutter. Lesson learned.

i had the tig 200 and when i had a problem with it Eastwood wouldn't help me. since i had bought the machine private sale they just kinda shook they're head. they don't actually work on these machines but just import them. if you do buy the machine from them and it does malfunction or fail "under warranty" they just exchange it rather than fix it. keep that in mind if your thinking about one of these.
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 7 жыл бұрын
I have heard someone else say something similar. Wouldn't an exchange vs a repair be what you would want? I am also curious to know what the other companies offer as far as repair services. Do you have to ship to Italy for repair?
@themotofixery
@themotofixery 7 жыл бұрын
The Fab Forums an exchange vs repair would be great until your out of warranty or your not the original owner like i was. i was willing to ship the unit to Eastwood and pay for repair but apparently that wasn't an option. the unit i went with is sold under the brand name HTP by usaweld.com in the us and is manufactured by Stel in Italy. the guys at usaweld.com are very helpful and pleasant! at one point i thought the gas solenoid went bad on the machine but it turned out to be just the aftermarket regulator i decided to try. before we figured out the problem was the regulator they were willing to just send me the part that i thought i needed or i could have sent them the machine to be fixed if i wasn't capable of doing it. this also means you could not only get parts for the machine but you could bring it to a local welding supply/repair store and have it fixed if your in the middle of an important project or out of warranty. i did tons of research and read all the reviews on any machine under $4000 and the HTP was the best around. in fact i couldn't find anyone that had anything bad to say about it.

The Moto fixery, You realize for 50$ or so you could un solder ever component and replace repair whats inside your broken machine. You dont need to know anything about electronics other than how to solder, I do It at my job all the time. Works 95% of the time.
@themotofixery
@themotofixery 7 жыл бұрын
Mark Rich i realize that but there are some problems with that. if a resistor burns out than you would need to be able to read the color code or be able to acquire a schematic. with these Chinese machines its common to see a high load circuit trace on a board that has been reinforced with a big gob of solder rather than designing it properly to handle the amp load. this is why duty cycle is important. also some components might be hard to source. its not out of the question to fix your own stuff but if your spending that kind of money on equipment you might as well get something good quality. resale value is another thing to consider. Miller and Lincoln sell quite well used but people are afraid of a used cheap machine. i had a hell of a time getting rid of my Eastwood.

Seems like a great machine, especially for the money. I'm a machinist / programmer and don't know near enough about welding. Always willing to learn though. I have an old Miller Econo-Tig and have very little experience with it at the old shop. My house doesn't have a 220 outlet in the garage and I guess that's the main reason I haven't played around with it here. Getting that wiring done is definitely on the list. Thanks for the round about reminder, Kyle. 😜 Btw, I enjoyed your review... good stuff, man.👍

The Fab Forums Cool, thanks. So what I have is similar to (and maybe the predecessor to) your Miller? I bought mine many years ago from a friend who welds when he upgraded. It wasn't used much and I think I paid around $850 for it back then. Included a big bottle, nice ground, lots of accessories, etc. Even a decent price is a waste of money if I'm not using it though. Have a good night.
