It was Billy Ocean's only number-one single in the UK. Written by Wayne Brathwaite, Barry Eastmond, "Mutt" Lange (Ex-husband of Shania Twain) and Billy Ocean, the song was used as the theme song for the film "The Jewel of the Nile" (1985) starring Kathleen Turner, Danny Devito and Michael Douglas.

Brad & Lex's generation may know Michael Douglas from Marvel's "Ant-Man" movies, where he plays Hank Pym. And they may know Danny DeVito from the TV show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". Kathleen Turner was retired as far as I know, but she turned up last year as a guest star on Michael Douglas's Netflix show "The Kominsky Method".

Billy Ocean! Long career. Mid '70s, '80s and early '90s. He's from the Caribbeans. That' why his music has that jazzy (horns, saxophones) R&B feel to it and some songs have a little rock guitars in it, also synth pop.. Fun and catchy. He's won multiple awards. Many good videos/songs from him. "Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)", " Love Really Hurts Without You", "Loverboy", " Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car", "Calypso Crazy", "Pressure", "Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Rough.." etc. Good dance music. Kathleen, Danny & Michael were huge acting talent in 80s & for Billy to get them in the video was a big thing. Kathleen Turner hasn't done much, but Danny DeVito was in 2nd Jumanji film with The Rock & Michael Douglas does bits as well as being married to Catherine Zeta Jones.

It wasn't a "big thing" to get them in the video. The song was used in their movie "Jewel of the Nile." This video was basically an advertisement for the movie. That was common back then. Movie studios used MTV to advertise movies.

My wife bought tickets for us to see see him live at the Parmount in Seattle in late 80's or early 90's [when we were just going out] and I was like "Billy Ocean"!? I new 1 or 2 songs, but I was more into Grunge and alternative at that time. He blew me away and rocked the house! It was fantastic. Love it!

It's jewel of the Nile, which is the sequel. The first film is where she has to rescue he sister. This one is....well, I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen it.😂👍

The US goes through phases of loving Caribbean music. I heard Harry Belafonte singing it back in the 50's when I was a just a little kid and Red Red Wine by UB40 was a big hit when I got into college. Funny thing is each gen thinks they're the first to discover the music of the islands. The US love of the islands and their culture and their music goes back to 1700 at least. The Founding Father's loved Jamacian rum.

The only link between him and Caribbean music is the title of his most famous song, which is not in any way shape or form Caribbean music. It's standard 80's pop music through and through. I'm not American but I seriously feel like you're desperately trying to take a gratuitous jab at them, I'm surprised nobody bothered to call you out on the BS post yet.
