The Hertz Driver's Seat gag is sprinkled in three parts through out the movie... kind of a real commercial when you think of it! I also noticed TWA airlines and Webber's bread in the movie.

I remember this! I saw it when it came out with my folks at the drive-in. I was 8. I dig the great cars from the 60s. Sculpted works of art, unlike today's monstrosities. 10.10.14

The man being lowered into "the driver's seat" is Dave Ketchum, who was best known as "Agent 13" on "GET SMART". Hertz (and the other advertisers) paid a fee for promoting their products in this movie [the practice, known as "product placement", is even more rampant these days].

Monika: My Dad loved this -- and The Odd Couple, too. I have been enjoying them (and the rest of the Lemmon-Matthau catalogue) since. While you and I know Good Neighbor Sam is one of Lemmon's best, he didn't think so. Strange.

FREEZE OFF BACK THERE!! Super sound quality, great music, a great old commercial and a very funny Jack Lemmon film. I played this 6 times in a row.

THIS FILM IS A PARADOX OF MY LIFE. I'M FROM ROMANIA. I SAW IT IN COMMUNISM. IN THOSE TIMES IN MY COUNTRY THERE WAS NO QUALITY FOOD, IN THE WINTER IT WAS COLD IN THE APARTMENTS, THE ELECTRICITY WAS INTERRUPTED FOR HOURS, SOMETIMES FOR HALF OF THE DAY, WE ONLY HAD HOT WATER FOR 2 HOURS A DAY, WE HID IN BASEMENTS FOR FEAR OF SECURITY TO HAVE ACCESS TO WESTERN CULTURE. WESTERN MUSIC WAS FORBIDDEN ON THE RADIO, WE WERE OBLIGED. LET'S LEARN THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE IN SCHOOLS ETC. BUT THERE IS THIS MIRACLE, NOW I'M REALLY BRINGING TO TEARS, IT'S CALLED THE CINEMA. THE PARADOX IS THAT THE ROMANIAN PEOPLE WERE FORBIDDEN ON MANY THINGS, BUT THERE WERE A LOT OF AMERICAN FILMS IN THE CINEMA. AND I ALSO SAW HOW TO LIVE NORMALLY IN A SOCIETY

Love this ad within the movie! Dave Ketchum, a great character actor. The singing of the The High Low's led by Gene Pearling and don't forget two more great character actors Louis Nye and WNEW radio DJ Robert Q. Lewis!

I also saw it at 8, at the Drive-in. told that to Jack Lemmon himself in '95 at the Harvard Film Archive, on my birthday, no less. read later that he wasn't wild about the film . Romy Schneider in the shower is delightful even in the way she handles the awkward situation.
