The show also featured Ja’net DuBois as Willona Woods, the Evans’ neighbor and friend, and Johnny Brown as Nathan Bookman, the building superintendent.
Good Times was a hit with audiences and critics alike, earning several awards and nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination for Rolle, an Emmy Award for DuBois, and an Emmy nomination for Amos. The show also tackled serious issues such as poverty, racism, crime, and unemployment, while balancing them with humor and warmth. The show’s theme song, composed by Dave Grusin and sung by DuBois, became a classic and is still remembered today.
