Goodbye Miele Dryer/Long Term Ownership Review

Sadly, my Miele dryer threw up an error recently after turning off during cycles. Big thanks to ‪@mieleguy1600‬ who helped me understand what was wrong. I've decided to replace it, but before it goes I wanted to detail my thoughts as an owner of a Miele T1 heatpump dryer for the last 7 years. Just an ad-lib so apologies of the lack of editing.
Here's a summary:
The good:
* Heat pump- reduced clothes wear/shrinkage
* Usual Miele quality,
* Excellent and customisable programmes
* Energy efficiency - even vs current it's still very good
* Drain hose kit for direct drainage into standing waste pipe
The bad:
* Noise- carbon contacts on drum make incessant ticking noise
* Dryness levels - took some adjusting, sometimes laundry a bit damp
* Cool down- none by default but I did adjust this to 18mins
* Didn't last 20 years/equivalent

My old Miele Primer W500 washer lasted 23 years. I replaced it with the WSD023 Selection W1 washer and I have to say whilst it cleans very well, it takes for ever and the spin cycles can take time to get spinning. I'm not as impressed as my old 23 year Miele. I miss the outer stainless steel drum and should had paid a bit more for it on reflection. However, I can't see it lasting 20 years like my old Miele! I've got an old Miele dryer (vented) and I have to say I think I will be sticking with this (although expensive to use compared to newer heat pump dryers) whilst it works. Thanks for the review and your videos.

Could you maybe get it fixed and keep it and then sell it on?? Seems a shame to throw it away when all it needs is a new pcb board ?? Just a suggestion

I bought a used Miele Washer, and the touchscreen was the first thing that made issues. Spare parts = expensive here. Miele gave me tips to work around it. Since it is set up in a dryer environment, the problems went away. I got a new Miele dryer (slightly newer model than yours), and I am quite concerned about the eletronics breaking down. I hope because it's a newer model they fixed this. But who knows. Sad to hear you had the electronics/PCB issue.

I think the not 100% dry is for when the items are to be ironed right away to prevent wrinkles. What are you getting to replace it?

Great video. Sorry to see your machine broke. I’ve heard that Miele has gone down the hill with the reliability and only inning on a good reviews of the very old reliable machines they used to make. I have also Miele washing machine and thimble dryer and happy with them. But if my tumble dryer packs up just like yours, I will go for Asko. Cheaper to fix and even better built quality, that is considered best built and most reliable products on the consumer market.

Really? I'm almost went with Asko for the same reason, but right before buying I found a ton of quality issues and service reports from a very large appliance center in the US that showed 23% of Asko's were requiring service within the first year of install. It's also owned by a Chinese company now, so not super confident their build quality will improve.

Oh wow! I didn’t know that. Good to know, though. Seems like all the brands have gone the same way and don’t care about the quality and environment, and trying to be more and more profitable to make share holders happy. 😢

@@lucasmaccloud yeah it was super sad. Their washer and dishwashers have so many cool features, but I wasn’t willing to risk it for the price point.

yes mine ticks, but i do know one collector who has a 2015 one and that doesn't tick.

That's the unfortunate thing about these expensive Miele appliances: the only thing that's guaranteed is that they're expensive, not that they'll last as long as you'd expect for the price.

unfortunate that this didn’t last, especially being a miele. expected it would last longer 😢. if you dont mind me asking how are you finding the W1 washer? i’ve been considering getting one for a while now and wouldnt mind getting someone’s experience with theres to see what im in for if you dont mind 😊

omg the ticking in Miele washers and dryers is super annoying. I have new Excellence models with touchscreens and the constant ticking the drum rotates on either is maddening. Makes the whole product seem cheap.

Mine is heat pump Miele - cost half a kidney and it’s the worst product ever. It will barely do one load, constantly beeping clean the damn filter, bought it for its ‘quite’ element. It sounds like a steam train. Had the guy out he said he would have to change the whole drum - never came back. Note to self : I’ll never buy a Miele anything ever again and I’ve been a long time customer. But this is a bad product.
