@@chris9242true but according to other mob guys. People like that can’t be trusted and eventually have to go. Burke was a good earner but if Henry hadn’t turned states evidence then he would have definitely been taken out. If he is wacking his friends cause he don’t wanna pay them their cut for a heist then whose telling if you try to go into business from a completely fiscal relationship

This scene is so surreal and strange. It's sad and dark, but the music is kinda upbeat. Never forget the first time I saw it. Definitely one of the most memorable montages ever.

btw, and is meant to contrast, as we see all this dead people that are relatively unimportant, and it then shows the death of tommy, as a direct contrast " yeah watch, you don't care about this dudes but once we show you the main death, you gonna realize there is enough to go around for everyone."

This is Derek and the Dominos - aka Clapton and the gang on smack...Love the way Scorsese uses this song (in more than one movie) to imply the descent of the story-arc. Things starting to fall apart...the beginning of the end. Very poignant. Gimme Shelter is another of his (and my) favorites. Marty Da Man.

So many people say films like Goodfellas and Casino romanticise and glamourise the gangster lifestyle. I respectfully disagree. At the start of Goodfellas, yeah, you see Henry idolising the lifestyle and romanticising it but it's ultimately part of the point that it ain't all it's cracked up to be. You see the highs, but you also see the lows as this scene (and the rest of the film from this scene on) quite clearly demonstrates.

Jimmy was cutting every link between himself and the robbery, but it had nothing to do with me. I gave Jimmy the tip and he gave me some Christmas money. From then on I kept my mouth shut. I knew Jimmy. He had the cash. It was his. I know he kicked some money upstairs to Paulie, but that was it. It made him sick to have to turn money over to the guys who stole it. He'd rather whack them. Anyway, what did I care? I wasn't. asking for anything and, besides. Jimmy was making nice money with me through my Pittsburgh connections. But still, for months after the robbery, they were finding bodies all over.

Most were Burke's crew and had little or no connection to the higher ups, so they wouldn't have cared. The only one he killed who might have caused problems was Paolo LiCastri, as he was a made man with the Gambinos. But, Jimmy made so much money for the bosses he pretty much had carte blanche...

Henry states that Tommy was shot in the face so that his mother could not give him an open-casket funeral. Tommy's real-life counterpart, Tommy DeSimone, was killed in January 1979.
