In Goodfellas, Robert De Niro played Jimmy Conway, an Irish associate of the Lucchese Family that had immense power due to his money making abilities. While Jimmy is a main character in the film, much of his story had to be cut for time, so today we'll take a deep dive into the tale of the real Jimmy, Jimmy Burke.

The fact that these men were more violent and immoral than the movie characters should give us all pause. Burke was a psychopath and murderer. 😮

Crazy, I was first a foster kid, than adopted from the NY Foundling Hospital. I was blessed, I was a foster child from 3 days till about 7, then adopted by the the same family that fostered me. Was never considered a foster or an adopted kid even though my parents had 6 of their own. Five when I was a foster than another one while I was still in foster care. Who knows what my life would have been like if it wasn't for my parents adopting me. As far as my brothers and sisters are concerned, I am blood, even though we look completely different. I am 55 now, very successful and retired thanks to my parents.

As a very fortunate child who was adopted at 6 months to wonderful parents, I am always very glad to see any positive happenings come from adoption or fostering children. With so many unfortunate and grossly irresponsible biological parents (that should never, ever have had children to begin with) it is a natural godsend that real, caring and honest people are able to adopt and forster children that are in very real need of true caring parents... Never forget that being a parent has essentially nothing to do with the 10 seconds it takes to procreate a child - being a parent is all about how you love, care and take care of a child for the better part of 20 years. It is sick and disgusting how many people leave their children for dead... ALL of those idiots should rot in the bowels of hell - period. If you cannot care for and support children, do not have them... And most importantly, thank you to all the folks that adopt and foster and help children in need!!! You are very true and fantastic people 👍👍👍

One lady let me live with her as long as I didn’t get into trouble. Got into the Military at 19 as soon as I graduated. Fast forward 17 years later, im 3 years from an army retirement, debt free, house paid off and 20 acres we paid off. Have had numerous rental homes that we’ve bought or sold. In a sense he was a captain. I mean, he had a crew. It was different in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, where...it's not like the Patriarcha family wasn't extremely successful for a time, but it's not like you couldn't be "made" in the Irish sense. He never ratted on anybody --- and by the way, as glamorous as it is, organized crime is horrible and punishes all of society -- still, he never ratted on anybody, there's something about that.

While it's true they made copies of the guard's keys, they didn't make copies of all of them. Apparently, they only made about 3/4 of them, due to either running out of time OR there weren't enough blanks OR some of the keys didn't match up to the type of blanks the locksmith had, so they did what they could do and hoped for the best, which (obviously) worked out for them in the end. *I highly recommend reading the book Wiseguy which the movie Goodfellas was based off of.*

Henry Hills book is excelent. Many nuggets of info that certainly arent in the movie. Wiseguy i havent read (i dont think i have anyway). Burke being called Conway because Burkes daughter was still around and dangerous/powerfull enough that the film went with Conway to screw her over and avoid paying money to use the name. Tommy being killed because he raped/tried to rape Karen and Pauly didnt like that, and set him for for his disapearance. It didnt have much to do with Billy Bats. That was all about money, he was trying to muscle in on Conways territory. It was a semi-sanctioned killing.

The stalker ex boyfriend story actually corelates with a story Henry Hill once told on the Howard Stern Show. He said that one year for Valentine's Day, Jimmy pulled up to his girlfriend's house in her ex boyfriend's car. People picture Burke as the DeNiro character, giving them a more appealing impression. In real life this guy was concerned with his own advancement despite the damage done to anyone around him… in other words he would cut your throat if it avoided him having any problems at all. He was known and feared in Ozone Park.

That kind of was how Deniro was in Goodfellas. I mean he was ruthless in Goodfellas and almost all about himself. Dude was terrifying. Smiling as he whacked everyone right after. That's the impression I got. And he was charismatic in real life too.

I agree to a point but if you hear interviews from people who actually knew him most actually have positive things to say about him as opposed to Henry Hill or Tommy Desimone who all you hear is negative both from their families and associates. People are complicated 🤷‍♂️

@@cristiansolares2007sometimes honestly that’s for the best. For example, if a biography was made about you or I- we would of course give the details that make us look good and keep out the details that portray us in a bad light. It would be just as skewed as if if it was coming from those around us (we are all heroes in our own stories)

Wow! Exceptional reporting and insights, thank you. Two of my father's best friends were Ralph Lamb the famous 'Sheriff of Las Vegas' who for years did battle with the Mob, Benny Binion the owner of the Famous Binion's Horseshoe club on the LV Strip, who also had his share of battle with the people you delve into, and I recall several colorful and shocking stories, when I was growing up during those times, some of which were never released for public consumption that relate to the thugs you have featured. Later I went to work for one of the largest construction companies in the world run by a billionaire criminal who exchanged favors for the Mob and their elected associated and benefactors in Washington. With all the Mob influence in the construction business, I had the displeasure of having to work alongside operatives of the criminal elements of Unions and some of the 'families' featured here, and what you chronicle provides a very accurate and chilling glimpse into the monstrously evil, psychopathic world that attracts the worst of humanity. Well done!

I grew up in the 70's around 108'th near the Bocce courts and Italian Ice King in Carona. We moved to Sands Point shortly after 74. I had my home in Strathmore Vanderbilt until I left N.Y. I was the ring bearer at J. Buccola's wedding and was baptized by Salvadore Castellano and Alphonse Persico in 73. I had an "uncle" that used to come by on my birthday and Christmas really anytime I did anything of note. I knew him as " Uncle Jimmy" when I was old enough to figure things out for myself, I realized who he really was. I never saw anything to suggest what was going on but I was very young. My father said to me before he died that he was happy I walked the halls of his life and was untouched that I could make my own way and be free. He got such a laugh at this movie calling out wrong names and places times or outright nonsense. Sitting there with him was surreal listening to him talk through the movie. I did make my own way now almost 50 myself I'm glad I do not have to have that talk with my kid. but it was damn sure an interesting way to grow up. Echo Hard! "Doc"
