I adore how this cover changes the tone of the song entirely. Before it was someone who managed to get with their love interest in the end and it was sweet but this! I love how this cover got more energetic and a little aggressive in "Bla bla bla". I love the chorus and the unique way he sings this part. What captivates me most is the end of the song, which ends in a calmer and more melancholic way, which I loved.

In my opinion Good Kid really proved themselves with this cover. Granted, it is not their original work. The elements they borrowed from the song by Laufey really helped them produce a more mature sound that is not typical of Good Kid. Don't get me wrong, I love Good Kid's music. Some of my favorites are Orbit, Mimi's delivery service, and Bubbly. However, Good kid tends to suffer from their music sounding samey and simplistic. Good Kid songs typically only have 2 main melodic ideas combined with good yet simple instrumentation and vocals. In stark contrast to this cover with multiple changes to the feel from pop rock to half time to a more jazzy groove. Additionally the vocals and instrumentation is leagues above typical Good Kid that feels intentional and tasteful. I truly believe Good Kid could enter a new tier of musical mastery if they strive to include more complex elements, like the ones in this cover, into their own music. Like I said, I think this cover is so good it really changed my opinion of Good Kid. They aren't you're average indie band. They have succeeded in creating a unique and recognizable sound, yet their music is not up to par in my opinion. Very catchy, but not quite mature enough. When I first heard this song I thought "Oh shit Good Kid is legit now". This cover is good enough to propel them out of the crowds of typical forgettable indie bands and into serious artistry. Unfortunately it is a cover and until they can incorporate more complexity into their own music, they may struggle to produce more unique sounding music. Super impressed though they for sure have what it takes.
