JD is very proud of the Gators, and it shows in their ridiculous pricing. Considering the new Ford Maverick pickup base model is about $20k, $35k for a Gator is just stupid.

I have used a Gator for 21 years of business doing property maintenance for large properties and it is an excellent tool. This will be the last John Deere machine I ever buy new as I am 10 years or less from retirement. I don't think it is mistake but appreciate your review. I pass by many of these channels but Good Works Tractors has caught my attention. I appreciate all your attention to detail and your honesty on machines. Thank you really enjoy your channel. D.P. Thumbs up for the excellent editing, good music which I normally don't care for in YT videos plus the link to the Yard Glider - neat product. Lastly, I bought my wife a 2021 Can-Am Defender HD10 Limited this past August. It wasn't cheap either. It is is a lot of fun but I do worry about its long term reliability having already experience a few little issues. That said, we've taken the unit trail riding to the Badlands in Attica IN, Redbird SRA in Dugger/Linton IN and Interlake SRA in Lynnville IN. It does an amazing job on trails (inclines, mud & water (though we try to avoid both ), rough terrain, etc). Give me fun, utility and reliability and I'll give someone a check.

@@GoodWorksTractors With your property, you have plenty of acreage to ride. However, if you are looking for additional content then consider taking your new unit to some of the many off-road places in Michigan. I'm always looking for information on places to ride in the midwest. So far, most of them point me to KY, TN and WV in addition to the ones in IN where I live. I shared the yard glider link with my wife and a Christmas tree emoji - hopefully she gets the hint and picks a Pro X8.

I have a 855D and love it. Yes it's abit slow but it's only a 24hp diesel. If I was to get another I'd get the 865R as I like a/c heating and being able to get out of the rain and wind. We use our gator for farming, feeding cattle grain and hay, moving cattle, fencing spot spraying, refueling, gardening tasks and visiting the neighbours. Unless it spectacularly fails we'll keep it when we do get a new one.

I have an 825M. I was trying to stay consistent with fuels and drove the diesel version and immediately found what you found. I thought I had left a parking brake on! I don't need the HVAC version or plow, so I paid about half of what you paid. Also got the manual bed, and hardtop with a windshield. The gas version is a lot peppier and fun to drive. What shocked me the most (other than battery placement) was the lack of low gear in reverse. Hope it works out for you or you get a good price on resale. Best.

@BrickyardPowerMan
@BrickyardPowerMan 2 жыл бұрын
Agree with what you said but what turned me away from the Pioneers is the excessive amount of heat that comes into the cab from the unit. Rode with a buddy in his 2016 unit and wow. Nobody but my cold natured wife could sit in the middle front seat as the heat was too much. Maybe they've fixed this in newer models but that and availability of new units led me to a '21 Can-Am Defender HD10 Limited.

Brent, Honda came out with the Pioneer in 2016 and as with any new model, they had a couple issues to work out. By 2017 they had a fix and fixed all units back to 2016 at no charge to the customer. 2018 and forward we have seen no issues. Thank you for your comment!

@@lovetractorsmark9724 Good to know - thank you. My #1 requirement for a ATV/UTV is comfort as I'm a big guy. #2 is reliability. #3 is availability as I've learned in these China virus times it isn't what you want but what you can get. My jury is still out on the Defender reliability. Comfort wise it's great. Bought a Limited because it's what was available as I didn't want to wait an unknown amount of time to order plus wanted a local dealer. I’ve never owned or operated a Gator but I had a diesel Kubota RTV. With my RTV, if you needed more power, you actually let off the throttle a bit. If you want something to just drive around and get you from point A to point B quickly or play, these machines aren’t really designed for that. Diesel side by sides are good for a lot of other farm tasks though. I reluctantly bought one because I thought it would be a bit more useful and safer than a 4 wheeler. I found out that it could do a lot of other tasks that I used to have to do with a tractor. While they pretty slow movers on the road, they’re quite a bit faster than a tractor pulling something like a drag harrow or even a small hay rake and they’ll do it all day long while sipping fuel. They’ll pull them plenty fast too.

For $35,000 I would have bought a small pickup. I worked at a large work site (over $ 1 billion in construction in 10 years) where all of the contractors had various utvs. They almost never used the to do anything but go from one side of the site to another and to carry hand tools or parts. They bought lots of attachments but only used them once or twice and went to other equipment after that. No hvac cabs though. They were slowly replaced with golf carts which worked better for their application, were much cheaper and much easier to maintain and transport they also got a couple of smaller pickups for larger items and to move small trailers (light unit, air compressors) short distances.

Well Courtney, I'm thinkin that you could have bought two really nice UTV's that probably would have performed a whole lot better than the green goblin. I like the enclosed cab but I don't think the heat and ac are worth the extra cost. Even with 140 beautiful acres the UTV is going to get you to a heated building quick enough that unit will have enough time to pump out enough heat to warm you. I have a diesel unit that I use for work and I park it for the winter and use a truck because with our cold upstate NY winters the thing is close to useless trying to get it started. Glad to hear your going with a gas unit. If I may, what was the name of that hunting blind you bought and set up a couple of videos ago? I'm still waiting to see a picture with you smiling over a buck you shot. ;)

See, that's the difference. I get a HVAC cab whenever possible, haha! Man, I'm out and about in the field for hours and hours sometimes with no shelter in site. Even if I'm outside working and not in the cab, it is a great option to have a little relief from time to time. That blind is branded Orion. So far, very very comfortable, quiet, and spacious. Pricey as everything is, but huge and built very well, plus easy to assemble. Still waiting on that big buck! I saw 22 deer last night, but just two small bucks running all the does around :)

A few years back I bought a 2017 Can-Am Commander XT-P 1000 for $13k and I absolutely love it. Not to mention the guy gave me a brand new snow plow for it and gave me a 2014 dual axle 7klb 16’ trailer. She’s a little light for heavy snow plowing but it sure is handy. Got her up to 72mph down hill😂 0-60 really quick. I can’t believe it. Only thing I wish is that it had climate control. It’s also a pain to work on, I replaced the CVT belt on it after about 1200miles and all those damn plastic pop rivets drove me crazy.

For the graying of the plastic parts, this has worked very well for me, Turtle Wax brand Trim Restorer. I have a 13 year old Sprinter van, all the black trim has grayed and this product works the best by far and last for about a year. I have tried $30 plus professional products and they do wonders for a week to a month. Application it like this (screw the directions on the label) apply one coat, let it sort of dry but quickly apply a second coat and kind of buff it off (yeah, extremely clear directions. I know). Of course cheap child labor and brothers makes the job a lot easier on you. Success is achieved through vigorous micro management. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

LOL, yeah, it might be a bit large for those trails. It was really a comparison of how much sheet metal and engine you get for your dollar. I understand they make a lot more Rangers than the 865R, and you've got scale of economy going there, but still... That's a lotta $$$. If I looked at that without knowing the cost, I'd say the bare 865R should be a $12K machine. Clearly, painting it green upped the price :)

I honestly hope the Polaris serves you well and that they have improved their quality since I last owned one in 2016. I have owned a Polaris ATV and it was just junk compared to the Honda's I have owned. Was not impressed by the plastics, the CVT was sluggish and I bent the frame within the first year of ownership carrying a load on the rear (I've carried comparable loads on my Honda). I live in Alaska and it is not uncommon for people to load an entire caribou or half a moose on their ATV during hunting season. Yes its above the manufactures ratings, but its commonplace in Alaska to overload these machines, especially during hunting season, and the Honda's just seem to take the abuse a lot better.
