I'm a retired fluid power engineer. The whining is caused by the sound of the pressure pulses created by the pump gears, pistons, or vanes depending on which pump type and manufacturer the tractor builder is using. The noise is created by the pressure trapped, in the case of gear pump, between the two gear teeth as the captured fluid enters the discharge port of the pump. The longer the dwell, the noiser it is. Reducing the dwell by moving the inlet and discharge ports closer reduces the noise, but at the cost of efficiency. All pumps are not equal. There are cheap low quality pumps and high quality more expensive pumps. The difference between them can be in the design, material, manufacturing process and quality control. Hydraulics will tend to be noisier at low temperature because the fluid gets thicker. It's good practice to let the tractor run until the fluid in the reservoir warms up. Consult the manufacters recommendation. Whether there's a problem can depend on the sound and performance from when it was new.

There is now a fix for M4 noise. Dealer just ordered my part to fix. Kubota does have fix now. It involves changing a hard line to a flexible hydraulic hose. It goes from the back left side of transmission to a T located bottom left side of of frame.

Funny, when the video first started I wasn't looking and I thought you were operating a dozer. Have ran a ton of equipment over the years and never heard an Ag type rig make noise like that. Generally that sound is coming from the hydrostatic pumps in large earth moving equipment which is normal. Cavitation is distinct due to the erratic high low pitch sound associated with air or lack of hydraulic flow getting to the pump. Consistent high whine is associated with restricted hydraulic flow which can be a multitude of things. Fluid level and filters are always the first item on the diagnostic check. I have had to rebuild plenty of hydraulic internals due to a blown $3.00 "O" ring. Check filters very carefully for metal and / or rubber pieces. Also I have had to rebuild internal hydraulics due to an over zealous use of silicone during factory assembly mucking up small orifices.

I notice on my (new to me last September) 2006 B7800 that occasionally the lever (valve) for the 3 point hitch will not quite return to center, causing oil to go past the valve and back to tank. This doesn't effect mobility, but can inhibit the power or even prevent use of the loader, if the valve is too far off center, the loader won't power down, only go down under float mode. Freaked me out this last winter moving snow, thought I had a hydraulic system problem until I realized what was going on. Now I'm careful to make sure the handle returns to center after adjusting the 3 point height. Hope you sort out the noise. I'm an industrial systems engineer with a lot of industrial hydraulics experience, and whines can be caused by a LOT of things. The noise almost always comes from the main or charge pump, but scavenge pumps can do it occasionally. It's usually "activated" by s specific combination of flows, pressures, temperature, pump speed and oil viscosity. If it's new, look to fluid restrictions like dirty filters, kinked or crushed hoses, or contaminants in the oil. Water or glycol in the system can do it too. If it's there when the system is new, clean and in good condition, it's just a combination that makes an audible sound. It's often caused by a difference in 2 inaudible (outside of human hearing) sounds that mix, causing an audible sound, usually characterized by a cyclic "beat" (which is what yours sounds like to me). It may be 2 pumps hitting specific conditions and "beating" together. Changing one of the variables like tweaking a relief or flow control can sometimes eliminate it, but hydraulic noises can be very annoying and difficult to eliminate. Good luck finding yours, and I hope it's benign.

The 3 point lifting issue is usually a cable out of adjustment where when the handle is all the way up, the 3 point arms are still trying to raise the implement even though the system is already at its max lift height.

@lcee6592

The noise may not necessarily be from the pump(s). All the valving and bypass valve(s) may introduce noise because there is so much “circuitry” the oil passes through. As much it can be the design of the pump. Some designs are naturally louder than others. Doesn’t mean anything is wrong. Cavitation usually occurs either from insufficient supply to the pump or too restrictive discharge for the pump. Air entrainment will usually make the pump sound like it’s “cutting out” or a gurgling noise. If the pump(s) are located below the hydraulic oil level then they have a flooded suction. Unless the oil level gets low enough, the pump will not starve for oil.

I'm sure you are on orange tractor talk but, there is a TSB from Kubota here in Europe, to alter the hydaulic working pressure of the circuit. The OEM-pressure is 23 bar ( 333 psi). In case, the pressure regulator should be set to 17 bar (246 psi). Ask your dealer, he should know. But have an eye on the 4 WD clutch. Maybe it doesnt't disengage very well. I put it back up to 20 bar (290 psi)

We've got a kubota just like it and we think we are having issues with the hydrolics. We can put the bucket on the cutting edge and lift the front end of the tractor just fine. We can put the bucket flat on the ground and it also goes up just fine. But when we have the bucket flat and keep it on the ground, we then try to tilt the bucket down to see if it will lift the front end up, which it doesn't. I hope that makes sense, but I'm not sure if it is supposed to be like that or if there may be a problem.

That’s a huge complaint about the new M4. Has a lot of noise working the loader. A couple buddies of mine have there’s in the shop to try a figure it out. Currently they changed hydraulic oil filters and did a couple adjustments to the pump. But like you said kubota has not put out a notice yet

Yes the noise is present in my M4 similar to Courtney. Still trying to determine the source. As he reported only when it gets hot and then when I touch my brakes it really whistles. Same if I hit the 4WD button. The two are related on the M4 as when you hit the brakes it goes into 4WD mode to control your descent in speed. I hope Kubota has a fix soon as this is really the only complaint I have about the machine. I'm sure now that Courtney shined a bit of light on this issue Kubota will try to focus on a fix for us M4 owners.

My old BX2200 didn't whine at all. When I bought a new BX2680, the whine was very annoying. It got louder and louder, as you throttled up, without moving the tractor or the FEL. I went back and asked my salesman to let me go start up another brand new tractor to see if it made the same noise, and he refused and became a jerk. It's been 4 years now, and Larry NEVER called me once to see how I liked my 20k purchase. I still tell people not to deal with Larry, as all he cares about is making the sale. I did talk to the service mgr and he gave me the general, Ya the do have a whine to them.

Well, it does say 'Kubota' on it - just kidding! This is one of many examples of why many folks around me are keeping older, more mechanical tractors in service. I know of a few who are refurbing older units for re-sale. I know that it is a big gamble purchasing any used tractor, but the quality control on some of these new units seem to be a bit questionable. So, which will be cheaper and easier to repair? It also looks like parts availability may become a big issue down the pike. It is not an easy decision...

Whine, whine, whine...to a certain point, it's normal to hear this whine...it's the hydraulic pump. Inside the pump, you have "veins," or gears that pumps the hydraulic fluid at very high preasure. It's resistance to the load that makes the noise, just like you put your thumb over the end of a water hose, the pressure increases and the water makes a spewing sound when it does come out. Whine, whine, whine, get use to it! Now, if it continues to get louder, you might start by checking your hydraulic pressure to make sure it's up to specs...I could go on and on, but, I digress...
