Ha! I think that about sums it up. I've found myself using another free tool (Microsoft Clarity) to supplement Google Analytics since it's way simpler and has some cool features. Depending on what you need your analytics tool to do, it might be worth checking out. Great for visualizing data (click activity, scrolls, etc). Not so great for creating custom events like GA is. Good luck! Just in case, here's how to install. It's fast.... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o51xn9J41KiWeJs.html

At 9:25 in the video, you show a quick/simple example of a Source Medium Traffic Report. I don't see that report in my version of GA-4. I haven't researched this too much (yet), but it looks like this report is no longer standard and you have to build it yourself? Or am I making this too complicated?
@rooted-digital
@rooted-digital Жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, thanks for the thoughtful comment. You're right that GA4 no longer has a default Source / Medium report. You *can* however, change the primary dimension in the traffic report to see traffic at that level (instead of Default Channel group). This video that I'm linking here shows you how to add a stand-alone Source / Medium report if you would like: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hNSWhKlm2Li-oqM.html Good luck and Godspeed to you!

Hey Zach, your videos are consistently helpful, thank you so much for posting. I have a reporting question for you: A number of clients have reached out to me looking for cross-device assisted conversions/conversion paths, for instance, confirming if mobile users come back to convert on desktop. Do you have any idea how to set that up? From what I understand the tracking is still cookie-based, so this is probably impossible. I thought Google Signals would provide some insights, but I don't see anything online suggesting that that's true.
@rooted-digital
@rooted-digital 6 ай бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for the encouraging feedback and the good question. You're right that Google Analytics 4 doesn't really do cross device tracking by default. User ID tracking might be your best bet, although that's a whole different ball of wax. Support article. support.google.com/analytics/answer/9213390?hl=en And another link that might be a useful read: www.optimizesmart.com/cross-device-reports-in-google-analytics-via-google-signals/ Good luck! Keep me posted if you go down the User-ID road. I'd love to learn from your experience.

We don’t have Google tags on our site. I was not the one who set up UA, and I’m a beginner with Google analytics in general. Is this something that is required for GA4?
@rooted-digital
@rooted-digital Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Google Tag Manager is not required to set up GA4. There are basically 3 ways you can install GA4. 1.) Manually insert the GA4 tracking code on your site. 2.) Use a plugin or integration to install the GA4 tracking code on your site. 3.) Use Google Tag Manager to install the GA4 tracking code. I personally think option 3 is best for a number of reasons, but the other options can work fine as well for a basic setup. I hope that helps. If you want to share what kind of website you have (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, etc), I might be able to share a little more. Good luck!

In Google Tag Manager I don't see any workspaces, etc only : Configuration, History, Admin. Curious how to edit tags and triggers?
@rooted-digital
@rooted-digital 10 ай бұрын
Hi there. Is it possible you don't have the highest level of access possible in your GTM account? That might explain why you don't see workspaces. In terms of editing tags and triggers, this explainer of how GTM works might help: www.rootandbranchgroup.com/google-tag-manager-basics/ And if you want a specific example for an event, this walkthrough of advanced scroll depth tracking has a written version and also an embedded video that goes through the process: www.rootandbranchgroup.com/ga4-scroll-tracking/ Let me know if this answers the question. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for recording and uploading this. Now I don't think this video is actually beginner friendly. I mean for someone who's not used it before. It seems it's for people who have used UA in the past transitioning to GA 4. I haven't used UA either so I was confused right from the beginning. I stopped watching at 14 minutes 😢
@rooted-digital
@rooted-digital 9 ай бұрын
I appreciate your honest feedback. This is really helpful for me to know and I'm sorry you wasted 14 minutes you won't get back. If you're up for a written version, this is the most comprehensive Google Analytics Beginner's piece that I've written. There's a small bit about comparing to UA in the beginning, but you can ignore it. www.semrush.com/blog/google-analytics/ If you decide to give it a shot, I'd be curious if you think it's any better. I'm going to work on a new version of this video that won't spend any time messing with Universal Analytics. It won't be helpful now (they take me a long time to film and edit) but sometime towards the end of this year or early next I'll have a new one. So even if it doesn't help you, thanks for making life easier for someone else. Cheers!

But the ga4 reports and UA reports are different for the same day. Why is that?
@rooted-digital
@rooted-digital Жыл бұрын
Hi Nived, The data model works differently in GA4 compared to UA. There shouldn't be major differences, but there are definitely different number for things like sessions and event counts simply because the data is collected differently. For something like session count, there are also different session timeout rules in GA4 which can lead to different numbers. I had made this video on that subject (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aZeCYJiom7e7l40.html) when I saw some different numbers in my account. I'm with you in wishing there was 100% consistency between the two platforms, but I just don't think that will ever happen. Instead, my goal has been to get a general understanding of where the differences are in my own data, and then use that to help set my expectations for the future GA4 world. Thanks for the thoughtful comment and best of luck to you! Ps. This video has more about the data model in GA4 vs. UA if you really want to geek out on it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p7OJnqWTupjTpIE.html

should there be revenue shown for events? Your video shows $0 and I'm seeing the same for mine. However, we are selling product, so I would think it would recored $ per each event.

No kidding, the best comment I've received this month (at least). Thanks for the laugh! Also, I think you might be on to something. They definitely did not make things easy for us...especially those of us who aren't natural developers. If you decide to give GA4 a chance, this video here lists 8 places where I think it's actually better than UA. I still am sad UA is gone, but there are places where our analytics lives might be a little better. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b5iof6qXxpmrmH0.html (Ps. sound was recorded too low...sorry about that).
