Hi, Thanks for this awesome tutorial, I've watched through a couple of times but still reluctant to try, when you say is not retroactive and can't be undone, does it mean I can't start from scratch once I'm started? I can't correct errors,? .e.t.c..

At the very least get Google Analytics installed on your site ASAP! Your right that nothing is retroactive. So just rewatch the portion where I talk about views (starting at 18:04). All you have to do is create a new view and make any changes you want. As long as you have your master view, your data will be save.

Most important thing for me is to set things up in a way that 2 months later, I don't have to go back and correct stuff, start all over again spends weeks instead of half an hour from beggining, I watched this video a few time already, I will probably watch more and more! However, my own page views keep screwing up my data :( I tried to block my internal traffic using an IP filter, but my IP address keeps changing and the filter becomes useless again the next day... Do you have any tips on how I can solve this? Also, I'd like to submit a request for the "Google Optimize Tutorial 2018 For Beginners" video :) Sorry if you've already made one, i couldn't find it. That seems to be an even more powerful combination: google analytics + google ads + google optimize (thank you google for all these amazing free tools btw)

Q/ I'm working on my Shopify account and using your video @ time 33.50 under the heading "goal destination" you input the url of someone signing up or going through the sales process- in my shopify account under "order confirmation" what do I copy and paste ? Or am i looking in the wrong page ? I hope that makes sense, many thanks for any help.

I strongly recommend finding a shopify specific analytics tutorial because there are some things that are special to how to set things up with Shopify. Since it's been a while, I can't answer that properly off the top of my head.

Since your creating your Google Analytics account for the first time, that's very strange! I don't think I've ever seen an account that couldn't create goals. It sounds like the page isn't loading properly, so log-out, clear cookies? I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

This is a great course so far. I have setup Google Analytics and added the tracking ID and header code to a clients site. Also, loaded TAG Assistant and enabled for the site, but not getting any results one way or another. reloaded the page but still nothing. Is there any latency with Google, where it needs time to pickup the tags on a new site?

No. If the tag assistant isn't showing your tags on your site, then it's not on your site ☹

As a beginner however, I noticed that you wanted us to add the Google Analytics tracking code in Thrive Themes despite the fact that you already had Google Tag Manager installed there. My question is: Do we need both Tag Manager AND Google Analytics in our theme settings? And additionally: will newly created pages inherit the tracking codes themselves? Thank you! 🙏.... You don't need both. If you have Google Tag Manager then you'll want to put Analytics in there and not directly on the site as shown. And yes, your new pages will inherit the tracking codes when placed in the theme settings as shown. 👍

Question: In the All Website Data view, for best practice should I set a filter to exclude my own ip traffic? Or should this only be done in the Master View?

It's safe to remove your own IP from both views.... if there is anyone else on your team, I would not do it on your backup copy.

what do i use to track a googled ads compaign ads: a google tag placed on the website or lading page OR do I use UTM tracking?

All the above. You'll want your conversion tag on the thank you page of your landing page, the remarketing tag across your entire site, and then use the UTM parameters when creating links for your campaigns.... As long as you connect Google Ads to Google analytics, you can actually skip the UTM for your Google Ads Campaigns in the beginning because that data will automatically be imported to Analytics.👍

Not a silly question at all 😁.... Google doesn't provide test sites for you to practice with. You would need your own site to do this.... You can go to WordPress.com and create a free WP site to play with 👍

Is there an interest to add UTM parameters as far as I can find my campaign in the Acquisition>Campaign without any UTM ? Can we say that UTM is good to track simple organic videos on youtube but not necessary when it is a google ads video campaign ? tks a lot

Thank you and great question - For that tracking you don't need to make UTM links. All you need to do is connect your Google Analytics account to your Google ads account and you'll be able to see just about everything you need. You can make the connection from the same page you linked your KZfaq channel 👍

I've built my website using ssh, ive added the snippet inside my head tag, and still get nothing. Made sure the snippet was correct using scp to upload the code. So ive got ssl cert, but i want to monitor both http and https can i do this? should I add both tracking ids?

The SSL shouldn't be affecting weather your code shows up unless you didn't do SSL when telling Analytics your site url. So check your using https in analytics with the correct property ID.... after that it sounds like it's an issue with the site not allowing the code to fire.

There's a plugin in the chrome store to opt out of analytics tracking.... If you have a a consistent IP address you can add a list of them inside of analytics as well. 👍

So UTM isn't something you install anywhere. It's just a line of text you can add to the end of the links you share. The tool mentioned in the video does everything you need to create your UTM links 👍

Nothing in Analytics is retro active and you can't combine multiple accounts. Any data from when Analytics wasn't on your site can't be collected.

Hey Jason, I just installed google analytics for my companies website. We don't have any ads yet on our website and if i wanted to connect our Instagram and Facebook accounts to analytics. That would show all the incoming traffic from those sources right? Sorry it's a lot to learn but your making it easier for sure!! Also if we don't have any ads yet what are somethings we should do right away ?

There is no "direct" connection between those. What you'd need to do is create UTM links for all of your posts and ads for IG and FB. That's how you tell Google Analytics where the traffic is coming from. It can do it automatically, but it's best to go through the extra step of creating the UTM links.

Yes! GTM is only placing the UA code on your site. You still want to step up things inside of Google Analytics 👍

As long as it's firing, you are going to be okay. Google has their ideal way, but just because it's not all green, doesn't mean it's not going to work.

Hi Jason, I have a question . But first, thank you so much for your tutorial. I have successfully installed Analytics and created a master copy. Your vid is awesome. The question I have is about installing google search console. Now when I have master copy showing above view, I went to property and all products and there is google search console and when I click link to search console it is showing as done. (I havent click on it yet). However, when I go to property settings, I can see that default view is all web site data, even though on the view is master. Should I be changing in property setting default view from all website data to master before I link search console or leave it as it is. I am confused, I just do not want to do anything wrong I am not sure you will read this, but hope you can help me. Thank you

I don't think you can add that code to your Patreon account... Normally you can only do this with page builders and sites you own. Not 3rd party software's.

Sadly no. You really have to setup the code/tracking the way you want and then wait for the new data/traffic to come.... You aren't going to be able to change that historical data with your new groups... You can try use reporting to manually group your content/pages historically.

You need to look at your pages to see where people clicked and what pages they bounced off of... Sorry I don't have tutorial about that.

I have one problem. I had two websites in my google analytics and two websites in my google search console. Only one was associated with google console. When I added the other one the first one disappeared. Then I realised this: (An Analytics property can be associated with only one site, and vice versa. Creating a new association removes the previously existing association.) Now what can I do about the one I have lost?

Sounds like enough of a mess you should start over with both. You can keep the two accounts you have so you don't lose the data, but create a new property for each site and start fresh.

Re setting a goal. My Goal Setup template is "Checkout Complete." It seems that Goal Type must be "Destination?" Then under Goal Details, what is my destination? I got this far and now I can't figure out the goal setting! I want my goal to be people who complete a purchase from my Etsy shop. If you used the shopify box to add your code, there's no need to do anything else. It's not not in the optimal place but it will work and there's not much you can change with a shopify site.... your good to go 👍

The simplest action you could take is set the goal to the page load of the second page. The visitor count on that page would represent the number of conversions since the only way to get to that page is the signing up for the lead magnet on the landing page - you can also set up a goal to track form submissions but it's more complicated than the page load route... This could be looking at the site vs the application.... sometimes it takes some digging to figure out why the facebook traffic is being classified differently.

The l.facebook.com is a form of traffic that has been redirected by Facebook through what is known as a link shim. A link shim is a tool that was created by Facebook in 2008 and protects Facebook users from malicious URLs. Every time a link is clicked on the site, the link shim will check that URL against Facebook's own internal list of malicious links, along with the lists of numerous external partners including McAfee, Google, Web of Trust, and Websense. If Facebook detect that a URL is malicious, it will display an interstitial page before the browser actually requests the suspicious page.

Analytics doesn't work. It seems Google updated things so this tutorial and most tutorials makes it impossible to follow along. If I heard you correctly, if I've set it up wrong, I can't go back and fix it. So what do I do? I trashed things and then got an email to say if I didn't recover it, I couldn't set up the same account again. So I recovered it but it doesn't work. What do I do now Jason?

You can use Google analytics for multiple websites.... you just need to create a separate property/UA code for each.... never have one UA code on multiple domains.

Is google ads a scam or do they have area of improvements? Why the numbers of views does not match in between the two systems? If KZfaq (1 view = A person watching for 11 sec) and Google Ads (1 View = A person watching for 30 Sec), then if an ads is count on Google Ads as charged that means that it was viewed by 30 sec, that means that it should automatically count as a view in KZfaq; but that is not the case at least with my ads. I have less views in my KZfaq (27 people in my last video) than the views charged by Google Ads (53 people in my corresponding campaign). What is your opinion?

I think "scam" is a bit hard of a word, but I do agree with your frustration. It's not cool that all the numbers are different even though it's the same company behind the scenes. If I ever get a concrete answer to why the numbers can be so different when it comes to KZfaq views, I will do a video on it.

Glad to hear you liked the Google Analytics tutorial. With KZfaq advertising sometimes you won't hit your budget if there isn't enough ad space. Check your competitive metrics of "budget lost" and "ranking lost" to see why your not getting impressions.

Sounds like you need to try other targeting methods. With no impressions there is either not enough ad space or your video ranks so bad that YT won't show it. Over >90% tells you that YT doesn't think your video is relevant to the people your targeting.

great info. thanks for the tutorial. but why the need for "youtubers" to speak so fast as if there was a time limit. it is a youtube video after all, and viewers should know that stuff like this are pretty intricate, therefore it is but natural to spend more time explaining and going over the details. i just wish that all how to videos would go a bit slower so we could properly process what you are saying even if it were in our own native language. processing is a different thing than just knowing english. nevertheless, i truly appreciate the video. thanks!
