Hey all- I am finishing up IBM's Cybersecurity Analyst certificate on Coursera. Before that, I took Google's IT Support course- and I was able to get an excellent, well paying job after taking that course. The key to these courses is to take several and get understanding of how things flow together. For this course, I would also take python/SQL scripting (trust me, even in a tier 1 position you will need it) and also take Splunk's own course on their products, as well as IBM. It would be to your advantage to simply buy the Coursera plus package and buckle down for the summer.

I’ve been doing the Google Cybersecurity certification for 3 weeks and only half way done. I think it’s great if you have a hard time self studying. It’s broken into small chunks of videos, reading, and labs to maintain your focus. So you can see your progress and get a sense of accomplishment. I plan on completing the IBM cybersecurity then the Palo Alto Network Security. Afterward Hack The Box Academy to develop my technical skills. I will eventually take and study for Sec+ but waiting for my job to cover for my exam. My goal is to get into Vulnerability Management or Threat hunting or Digital Forensic.

I feel like the Cybersecurity shouldn't be taken by itself and should be taken with the IT Support and the IT Automation...as a matter of fact they kind of flow into each other...It Support's last class is a security course which would lead into the Cybersecurity course, and the Cybersecurity course's second to last course is Automation which leads into the IT Automation course. Keep up the great work. :)

I completed the IT support course from Google on Coursera just before this Cybersecurity course was released. I'm 3 courses in to this certificate and I find that its been mostly review of stuff that was covered in the IT support series. That's honestly been very helpful. I got the IT support course for free and earned the certificate, but I was only given a 25% discount on the Cybersecurity course. I am not convinced its worth paying nearly $300 for this certificate. I plan to simply continue to audit the whole course and then study for the Comptia Sec+ cert.

Thank you for watching it! To answer your question. It depends what route you want to focus on. Blue teaming? There's a great SOC analyst learning path on TryHackMe. Maybe study for Sec+ or CySA+... Red Teaming? Check out TCM Security's courses on pentesting. Maybe even prep for their PNPT certification which I hear is a great path.

If you are planning about going into Security I would do a course on network plus, and instead do the Security+ cert. Save you time and money. If you have linked in you can sign up free trial and do both there under a month. Security+ will take longer though if you are new.

Just to add. Network + will only touch ports and OSI model and concepts of the switch functions, maybe even some commands. Also types of cables and such, but let's be honest, most people working at a Noc or Soc or Msp don't really do cabling. If you are really trying to get networking down, the CCNA provides an in more depth about networking and you learn how to connect PCs and other devices through switch, create vlans, etc

If you are taking just certificates on coursera, they don't make you certified. These are certificates of completion, but they do not make you a specialist. That requires work experience. 100k job may take a while got someone who only builds up certificates of completing a course vs someone being a certified specialist. Keep that in mind

Hello Kevin, I also just recently passed the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate. I did love getting into SQL as I am not familiar with it. I also loved the Python portion because I want to learn Python. What Python courses are you finding helpful for learning. I was going to try Python for everybody, but it seems a little dry. I just want to learn it to help support a cybersecurity career. I have also passed the Sec+ already and found that it was easy to get through all 8 curses in about 10 days. I slowed down for the python and SQL sections. Also have you tried the python for IT automation google cert?

Reviews of professionals and one who is new to the field are completely different. By saying that some modules aren't good or for somebody else might not fetch the interest and one will no longer be happy to pursue the course. Great question! If you're brand new into cybersecurity and need a foundation to build yourself upon, yea id say this would be a good start. I personally don't think the certificate holds much weight in terms of hiring managers. Network+, Security+ holds more weight because it's been around for such a long time. Don't know down your degree though! It's still just as important. Gpa though can be irrelevant lol If you want to work on technical skills, check out tryhackme learning paths. These certificates are certificates of completion, not making you certified. Keep that in mind because these certificates quizzes are not proctored.
