GooglecMaps is so much easier to use than my old GPS. I doubted it until I started using it out of necessity. My GPS was broken. One of the best features of Google Maps for me, is not needing a full complete address that most GPS systems require. The convenience, SPEED calculating the route, recall of previous routes & continuous updates (eg suddenly announcing a quicker route, road blocks, accidents, etc) while enroute to my destination have changed my mind about the need to purchase a new GPS. I now recommend it to my friends who ask me "what's the exact address of the restaurant?" And I look forward to learning more about GM! Fantastic job, Google Maps!

This new Google maps is excellent, I used to have several different types of GPS navigation apps. But with the talking directions and upcoming announcements of street turns , I don't need the other.. apps With this app it makes it so much easier at when you can't read the street sign , it tells you how many feet to your next. I'll probably be using it all the time, Thanks Google!😆

On my S4, I was able to zoom out and cover Kitchener all of the way to Toronto and it took 87MB. Of course, if you have multiple starred POI in there as well, you may have have to narrow it a bit, but I was able to cover that whole quadrant in a single offline map (North-Newmarket, South- Brantford, East-Markham, West-Kitchener).

Yeah, of course, there offline maps out there, but Google does not really involve itself in many projects that don't involve cloud interactivity (Maps, Search, Drive, Glass, Voice, Now, etc). Too much caching of data would be involved with a fully offline product (as it would want you to update it consistently to keep up with its real-time version). The best one can hope for is a larger offline option and/or more interactivity with your saved map(s).

Thanks it,s really a fine line sometimes like for example a bus company DISPATCH may outline directions to a certain location that driver isn't familiar and almost went into the New Jersey sound. And but thanks to God it was avoided that time so now the drivers know it,s more important to preset the itenara at the start

There is a reason why its called offline. it doesnt not have to be up-to-date with the current traffic or even say as old as 6 months. A lot smaller companies have provided that with sufficient materials and im pretty sure google can do a lot more better whether or not its could interactive.

You can store as many offline maps on your device as you want along with Starred locations. I have 10 of my frequently-visited cities with dozens of Starred locations. Try it on yours.

You may not understand, but I'm saying that you CAN save offline maps...along WITH the offline maps come the Starred Locations. So, yes, it certainly has to do with Starred Locations as well. That is the only way that you can view POI information while offline...by starring it. For example, if you're going from your home in your city to a Red Lobster restaurant, you should star the Red Lobster & then save the city map area offline...you will then be able to pull up Red Lobster while offline.

Is the satellite view streamed to your phone or are you allowed to download areas directly to your phone? Thing is, if you have your cellular data pulling in high resolution photos as you drive, it's going to kill your data allowance making it a pointless feature. There should be a way to download areas, cities or roads directly to your phone so it's not using up your data.

Yea, but what if I'm driving along the Grand Canyon on a raining day & there isn't any 3G or 4G coverage for internet? That means my smartphone won't navigate and I'm left with pure GPS navigation only, right?!

Why not add a link to your INFO tab to Google Maps Navigation download page? Would make it easier for those of us non-Tech Savvy peeps who would love to download this Helpful App. Grandparents who are trying to become one of the Elderly Geeks, would surely LOVE the added simplicity. Thanks! :-)
