Today, we are going to review the Google Nest Wired Doorbell. This is the 2nd Generation and this is the little brother of Google Nest Battery Doorbell and supposedly the upgrade for the Nest Hello. We will check out its features, unboxing, install, setup and check out its video and audio quality and run it through our video doorbell tests and see if this Wired version of the Google Nest Doorbell is going to be a good option for your home.
I'll also do a quick comparison of this doorbell to the Google Nest Battery Doorbell and also to the Nest Hello or the first gen wired doorbell that it is going to replace.

It's truly amazing just how badly Google has botched the Nest integration. Two years and you still need two different apps if you have older cameras. You still can't get preview notifications on Android Wear devices. It's just shameful. You wouldn't think Google is one of the richest companies in the world. They certainly aren't the most focused company.

Can this device notify your smart TV and see live view when the TV is on? So while watching TV ...it interrupts your TV show and shows live view of your front door when someone rings the doorbell.

I just replaced my old Hello with a Gen2 Nest today. Significantly better camera resolution. Also much easier WiFi set up. I'm very pleased.

Hi. does the gen 2 Doorbell have a faster response time or prosessor? I feel my Gen 1 uses a long time from when someone ring the doorbell and to the alert is broadcasted on my Goole Home display and phone.

Thanks! was looking forward to this review. i'm disappointed that this really isn't much (if any) of an upgrade from the Hello doorbell. I've had the hello for a while and have been thinking of upgrading but I can't say I'm digging anything google has done with the Nest lineup. Eufy and Unifi has interesting doorbells but worried about the consistency and completeness of their platforms. The search continues...

Yes BUT.......in this 2nd gen did google fix the cold weather issue when temperatures get below -4 degrees thats makes the camera stop working? In my gen one it does this and its terrible.

I'm not sure if this was the issue you encountered with "delayed notifications", but in the video he shows issues getting notifications due to "cooldown". I wanted to point out that Nest Hello (and I'm guessing this new nest doorbell too) will avoid sending repeat notifications for the same subject (so it is a "cooldown" -- but it'll cooldown for a very long time if it thinks it's seeing the same subject). If I test with different people or a face mask, I don't have these "cooldown" issues. I almost returned my own nest until I figured this out.

@@MrManchesterUnited08 I’ve tested this with me first going into the cameras field of view..I got a notification…(unfamiliar face)…after 2 minutes..my wife got in…no notification and the next 2 minutes, my son went inside the house…same thing..no notification…once in a while though , it will give notifications “person seen detected” and then another “ unfamiliar face” so it is not consistent…my main gripe on this one which I still have it in my front door currently is the GIF preview.. 99 percent of the time, there will be nobody on that notification preview which defeats the purpose of having that feature…it tends to get the snapshot on the pre-recording or before the person has been detected…

You can change the notifications sound to any sound you want in the phone settings in Android phones. My camera notifications currently make a camera sound and the doorbell is set to make the old nest doorbell sound.

@@ElevatedHome2 If you have Android you can change the sound for any app. Some apps have different notifications like Google home that has notifications for Camera notifications, Critical alerts, doorbell press, presence sending and other notifications. You can give them each an individual sound. You would have to find and download your own sounds from zedge or wherever you get your sounds from. I'm not sure about iphone, but I'm sure you can't since they are not as open about customization.

Well, I was going to upgrade to the 2nd generation doorbell..until I saw this video. For now, I'll keep my 1st generation doorbell since gen2 doesn't seem like much of an upgrade and I am one of MANY that also finds Google Home super clunky to use. C'mon google....I love ya but get it together. 🙂

I have just installed this 2nd gen version to replace the original. I cannot figure out how to upgrade the subscription to get more than the default 3 hour recording? How the heck do I get the subscription!??? Can’t find it anywhere.

Did you find something worth getting? My main focus is video quality and audio. If it can't catch faces and plates without being pixels and audio is distorted its not worth anything.

No video discusses this point... does the doorbell puck itself make the chiming sound, or does the puck allow the Nest to interface with your old chime? Reason I ask is that I have a house built in 1987 that the doorbell chime is basically a wall clock with 4 metal tubular bells that hang from the clock. When someone pushes the doorbell, there are small hammers that play out a melody on the bells. None of the videos I've watched tell exactly what the function of the puck is. Also, we have 3 doorbell buttons (front, back, garage), each with it's own separate melody. Will the 2 other doorbells still function as expected with the puck in place?

The puck is like a power pack that will maintain and keep power to the doorbell because the chime does take a lot of power when someone rings it.

I really like this camera and have been using it since it came out. I still very much, like most people who are OG Nest users, HATE… no LOATHE the forced Google Home app use. It doesn’t help that the Home app is completely horrible, convoluted and frustrating to use. The Home app has been a solid performer for YEARS and sadly as my old Nest Cameras die out, they’re almost impossible to find now and when you do people charge an a obscene amount. My old Nest Exterior IQ Outdoor cam finally died out and I found a new in box for 600 dollars from some A-Hole. Nest is still one of the best deals under their sub plan and 24/7 access for 10 days is awesome but Google has completely ruined the Nest experience. I hope you’re reading this Google… y’all done F’d up.

No kidding. It sucks when you're out shopping and it takes like 10 minutes to find your shopping list in the Google Home app. But as far as turning lights on/off and checking network speed (Google Nest Mesh Network), it's pretty intuitive.

this doorbell sux, a downgrade from the old one which had it's own issues. I'm getting a Eufy but not sure if I should go with wired or battery with wired charging as it would have the drawbacks of being battery even though it charges through the wires. the wired one has 24/7 recording but doesn't have the NVR.

Yep, both Nest Hello and Google Nest Doorbell Wired can have motion recording and 24/7 recording, whereas Google Nest Doorbell Battery can only have motion recording.

You can set it to play an alert through Nest Audio speakers, as well as chime just like a normal doorbell does.

I just installed 2nd gen wired Nest doorbell to an existing mechanical style inside chime. The chime transformer is rated 16vac-24vac and had no issues before install nest doorbell. If I remove the nest doorbell and momentarily touch the two wires together, the mechanical chime activates. Any ideas on this issue. I see many folks have experienced the exact same problem.

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen someone having an LTE network, even in the suburbs. We live out in the suburbs in SC, a good 10-15 miles outside of town, and I get 5G UC out here. Obviously just have to deal with whatever you have in your area.

@@Tenmilmedia You really need to do your research before telling people what to do... They upload a still image to the cloud (temporarily)... Just like everyone dose... how do you think you get the notification on your phone? from the cloud!!! if you dont want that... then turn rich notifications off... Lots of KZfaqrs were looking for quick views just to hate on eufy... IE Linus Tech tips... when All other manufacturers do the same things... its just, Eufy stated it differently... All that has changed now. By the way... ALL eufy doorbells either use a supplied chime or it will chime through the homebase or an Alexa device... so. you are wrong again...

Google (Nest) really needs to step things up! They have fallen off the map when it comes to smart home tech. I have had google products for YEARS, and I am slowly getting rid of them. I have the Hello doorbell still and as the video quality is great... it is useless without paying the $6 a month... I cant stand ring either for the same reason... So I am most likely going with Eufy as I have all my cameras with them anyway.

I have had the google doorbell for years. I few years ago I bought a second Google camera and I always had Nest Aware. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GOOGLE PRODUCT. They doubled the price of Nest Aware, there is no customer service. No body to call. My first Nest doorbell front face peeled so I bought another with no accountability from Google. They are well aware of this problem. I bought a second nest doorbell and it did the same. Why did they spray a clear coat on the face of a doorbell if they knew the clear coat peels?????? Why did they not rather just polish the plastic if they wanted it shiny??? Google is CRAP. RING is much better.

These both have a 3-5 year non repairable kill switch inside in the form of a small lithium battery. Google service reps tell me I should just buy a new one after 3 years despite the fact that if I could get inside it to replace the battery it's be fine for probably another 3-5 years. Shame on Google for making this landfill. Buyer beware you'll be continually replacing these things.

Please don't buy it! It lasted a year and was a nightmare keeping it connected to the Wi-Fi. Get a battery-powered doorbell from Tapu with 180 days of charge and half the price, with chime and storage included.

The doorbell second generation sucks can't connect with the nest app no more , so it's a piece of trash I have returned . I had installed the old nest hello to make it appear on the nest shitty app again . Be smart don't buy new Nest products it sucks.

No, not worth it. Subscription necessary to get any features out of it. Eufy's does a better job and zero subscriptions and all the features ready to use. Just replaced my worthless Nest because it can't do anything without a subscription.
