Google's artificial intelligence company, DeepMind, has developed an AI that has managed to learn how to walk, run, jump, and climb without any prior guidance. The result is as impressive as it is goofy.

My dad was a programmer software analyst for the army worked for many big IT and securities companies. I remember when I first learned how to put a computer together he told me hen it would take a computer the size of the house to figure out how to walk and that the human body was still the most advanced system out there and always would be. Just wanted to share that memory

The part where it drags the one foot is an interesting choice. I would think that a factor the AI doesn't get here is sensation of the body. No one would choose to walk that way as a human because they would injure their foot. So if the AI had sensors for pain it might makes a different choice.

From what I'm told, one time my older brother and I were playing hide and seek in a Walmart (something you really shouldn't do with any kid, particularly not a toddler) when he ran crying to our parents because he couldn't find me anymore. It took them two hours of talking to security and calling out my name for them to find me asleep in a clothing rack. But at least I won hide and seek.

It is prob designed so that it learns based on fastest time, and length traveled. If something works better, it starts using that as it's base. Then over trail and error, it gets the most effecent way. With that said, it will prob learn to more walk like us, the longer the simulation runs. We have had a hell of a lot longer to evolve the way we did. It will learn.

NowhereMan no, the arms are being used for balance and control, like a cat's tail while running. We don't need to do that because we are well balanced and have evolved running and using our arms in a much more efficient way. The computer doesn't have to worry about the model breaking or any bone structure or anything, so it looks like it has just created its own version of balancing the model while running.

The one time I could recall seeing a person move like this was during a group run where that individual was still hammered-drunk from the night prior; at formation he was given a choice between staying in the run or being punished. The punishment probably would have been less painful. Just like the AI, it was wonky, but he stayed in it. We are talking bow-legged, almost lunging style steps, but performed at running pace. The guys in the lead deliberately sandbagged our speed just to make sure he wouldn't fall out and be nailed for it. He made it without having to be carried somehow, but oh my God it hurt just to watch. The flailing is interesting; we've had millions of years through successive iterations of species in our development as tetrapods in water into bipedal locomotion on firm surfaces. I wonder how many "generations" of that specific AI it took to get to their stage (these sims hit millions of cycles sometimes?). We use our limbs instinctively to mass balance and make locomotion easier; maybe the AI is developing the next Olympic level (like that one dude who decided to pole vault backwards) switch of technique to perform a given task more efficiently (within a given parameter... like indestructable ankles lol). There's obstacle courses I've run, for example, where I felt more comfortable at an oblique angle, for example, to surmount some of the challenges in front of me. Likewise, I'd be so gassed at phases of them, that I'd use other parts of my body like elbows, knees, shoulders, hips, and yep, even my butt, to shimmy, clamber, or roll over some of the problems.

There are two ways to look at this 1. Here is an algorithm which learned to walk and jump by itself without any portrayal so that they could figure out functioning mechanisms. 2. On the other hand, it could tell us about the structure of the world which makes it quite apparent even for an algorithm (programmed to have the same functions that a human body structure does) that it has to walk and jump. But there is one thing to take into account in all of this, it was given a goal of moving forward which matters fundamentally.

wow 95% of the time someone comments a comment that has "Jesus, God, Heaven, Hell, etc" there'll be an atheist or non-religious person starting an argument in the comments saying that God/ Jesus/ etc isn't real blah blah blah. I'm not trying to disrespect your beliefs or anything but you should respect what people believe in and not call people idiots for it. You might be an idiot for calling people idiots for believing in something. Go back to watching anime instead of people calling idiots.
@Traindriver321
@Traindriver321 6 жыл бұрын
ok, so I guess we shouldn't call out people who are racist, sexist or otherwise? Because it's their "belief"? No bitch, there is no ideology or belief that is too sacred to be critisized and Theists are not excempt from it. If you honestly and truely believed the world was flat I'd call you a fool, and so would everyone. Same with religion, if you don't see the blatant truth that THERE IS NO GOD or any reason for him to exist, nor anything that even hints at the existence of him, then you are *AN IDIOT*. Explain to me then, why i SHOULDN'T call them idiots and retards? As long as you can explain your reasoning you have every right to call me and idiot, and so do I.
