That's odd, though I find sometimes they roll out new features in a staggered format if you happen to be located outside the US. With some places such as Canada not being able to access bard at all without using a VPN.

event tried with a VPN in New York and still getting Unfortunately, I am currently not able to generate images directly

No idea what you are talking about. Gemini says it can't make images. Only prompts.
