Google Stadia Is Dead...Is Pixel Next?!?

Google announced the other day that Stadia is officially dead. It will run to January then be switched off. Customers are to be refunded for any purchases made, but this has damaged the company's image to many. Some people have also been asking if the Pixel will be next in Google's long line of cancelled products. We should talk about that...

I agree, there is growth now and they are starting to push the pixel line more. I guess the only risk is if sales don't grow at the rate they would like with their higher budget on marketing.. but I can't see that happening.

I think the 6a is an important phone. More important than the 7 and 7 Pro. It will outsell both combined. We'll need a couple more years to get the real picture I think. Cheers Joe.

Honestly, with the wider release in countries that never gotten them.... Who knows about the Pixel! It could very well be that they will see how this series goes with the wider release and judge it based on that!

I think the Pixel line up will be fine, however I wouldn't put it past Google to change the naming scheme as the years go on.....

Tbh I think they're all in on Pixel as a brand. Don't think a rebrand would be wise but you never know.

A recent Ars Technica article says that Google has a 2% market-share in North America, as of the middle of 2022. Worldwide though it's less than 1% still, overall. So... you do have to wonder why they bother long-term when their phones now don't seem to offer anything special over other makes. Sure, the photos may be good, but you can install "ports" of the Google Camera app on other makes, which will then give you similar results. Beyond that, what else do Pixel phones excel at?

The marketshare is increasing. The 6 was the start of a big push and the 7 should hopefully bring even better results. Pixel camera can be ported but you don't get the camera features. Magic Eraser, Face Unblur and Camouflage for instance. Then there's the Pixel software and tbh nothing else comes close. There's also the fact that Tensor makes some of the features also available elsewhere just work far far better. Here in the UK Pixel has hit 5%. Expansion to more European countries and India are big steps. Worldwide marketshare right now isn't the focus as they're only available in a small number of markets. It's a gradual process but I think they're on the right path.

@@GroundedTech 1 thing alot of people fail to realize when they talk market share is that pixel is released in 12 countries where Samsung and Apple is released in 100+ . They are finally including India in a launch and they don't even release in China. The more countries available the bigger the market share.

@@lennybonsignore6358 exactly that Lenny. The Pixel 6 series was basically starting from scratch. They've got some momentum now. Just got to keep it going.

@@lennybonsignore6358 I do realise that, but that's Google's choice. No-one is limiting them from most of the countries they ignore releasing their devices in, are they? That's like saying "What people don't realise is, M&S and Waitrose would have higher market-share if their prices were cheaper". Yeah, but they're not. Giving the reasons why doesn't change the fact their market-share is still currently low

@@GroundedTech They may have some momentum, but due to the change to Tensor there has been a higher number of issues with the 6 and 6 Pro, such as fingerprint-reader, or signal issues, or overheating. That also won't make a good first-impression to those new to Pixel. Has the 6a managed to avoid most of those issues, given it also still uses Tensor?

I am hoping that Pixel stays but I just couldn't see Stadia staying. Awesome effort buy Google but Xbox Game pass is a juggernaut. I was actually worried about Sony for some time regarding it. Excellent video Dan.

I think Stadia could have been in a good position long term if it had been managed and marketed correctly. Xbox is the juggernaut but Stadia was pretty well placed for some degree of success. I think Pixel will stay mate 🤞🏻 Thanks Bazza

The pixel phones come with 5 years support so I guess not

LG killed off their phones and supported them for a certain length of time. But yeah I think Pixel is that safe that they offer this level of support. But also because Android is there's so it isn't too difficult to provide security patches. Could still provide that and cancel the product so no more sales or features etc.
