You said you can set rules for certain callers such as friends ring to your actual cell phone, but others do not. How do you set those rules?

I can confirm that Google Voice _does not_ use cellular minutes, at least from my carrier. Google Voice is essentially a VoIP forwarding service - the call is carried through your device's data connection. Have been using it exclusively for 8 years with a monthly carrier plan with only 100 voice minutes, so I pay attention to this.

I've been using Google voice for 10 years now and use it primarily to make Wi-Fi voiceover IP calls from my Android phone without using phone minutes

Nice intro. Next it would be nice to know how the international calls work - when traveling abroad etc. And how the "Prefer WiFi and Data" setting works - what "prefer" entails $-wise?

Sometimes I lose my phone and I don't like asking people to call my phone for me to find it and then learning of my number in the process. ...so now Im using this and it is really convenient.

I'm looking to find out if calls coming in from Google Voice to my business cell phone (that I already use for a different Plumbing Company business) can have a different ring tone. I may be able to select a specific ringtone from my Android Samsung cellular device if it carries the Google Voice number through as the caller. If it shows the incoming calls specific number it may not work. I'd like to carry the one cell phone and answer it with either Business name depending on the source it originated from.

Hi your video was very helpful. Can I make a call from my laptop with Google Hangout using google no.# to other cell no.#? If yes, then will I still be using up my cell phone minutes? Also can I forward my cell phone calls to the google no.# and receive/answer them on my laptop? And how will that affect my phone minutes? Sorry asking too making questions....thanks :)

I can't use the computer to talk thru my microphone? I was hoping I could talk to the other caller without using my phone. Is there any way you can do this, on a Chromebook. Is there another app that can do this?

Thank you for this tutorial. I signed up on my cell phone yesterday. But now that I'm trying to use this on my laptop (which was the main idea for me) , it keeps asking me to choose a number. It does not recognize that I have already signed up using the same email address. . Please help.

Do I have access on a Chromebook to the "Additional Options" and "More Options" functions on Voice Google accessed through the three dots? There are not three dots to get to those functions on a Chromebook. If so, where and how?

While setting up Google Voice the system had us access LEGACYGoogle Voice. At some point do we have to upgrade from LEGACY and how? Additionally if I am just answering calls through the WEB on my computer do I have to download some sort of an app to my cellphone? Enjoyed the tutorial, thank you.

Yes you can - but each recipient will have the number of every other person on the message. I have never been able to find a way to individualize them without sending the message individually. They will only have the number and not the name, unless the number belongs to a contact in that student's contact list. Hope this helps!

Forgot to mention - it is similar to the way you add multiple email addresses to an email. It will automatically take you to the text section after you enter the first number but you can go back up to the phone number and continue to add more numbers.

when i set up my google voice i linked my number and it asked me to get a google voice number when i already did and i had to pick a different number but when i put in my phone number again it said my number can not be linked when it was already linked, i dont know whats happening

I'd like to know if I setup and Google Voice account for my business use, and I leave that place of business, can I transfer the phone number to a different person so they can pickup where I left off. We would be using this for clients and I would like to know that the clients can still be taken care of with out changing the phone numbers if the employee (me) leaves.

I know this may seem a little off topic, but do you have any idea if Obihia devices will still be able to get free phone service after Google takes away the Hangouts app after Oct 2019? It's pretty close now, and nobody's saying if you'll still be able to use an Obihia device for free phone calls with the Google Chats app, or what.

If you have Google voice on your cellphone and your cellphone is connected to your car radio it can be a pain if you select ask each time which phone number to use for an outgoing call. You have to make that selection on your phone and if it's not easy to get to the call will not get made. That is for outgoing calls only. You can set it to manual calls only though if you want to use the Google Voice from your cellphone.

While adding Google Voice to use on my new business account and email my computer crashed and it opened up in my default Google account! Now half of the "setup" is on one Google account and the other half is on my new gmail/business account. I can't use either one! What to do please. THANK YOU!

Hi thanks for the explanation.... is Google voice for personal acct still active? I have a GV on my iPhone but cannot receive or make calls. When I receive calls made to me, I don't hear the ring but I do get their voice mail recording. I also cannot make a phone call via my laptop. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, thanks for this tutorial! I am a virtual assistant and I'm offering virtual reception services. I am wondering if I have multiple clients that need their phone calls managed, can Google Voice handle this kind of scenario? How would the set up work? Do all my clients need to have a Google Voice account and forward their calls to my number? Also, when someone is calling on client A's phone, will I know through Google Voice? Basically, I want to find a way in which I can divert my client's calls to my number. Thanks in advance!

i have agreat collections of almost priceless books and every gadget you could ever need. thihese 3 houses are amazing, only it keepd turning off lights in the wrong house! I’ve been a user of google voice when it was in beta. Lately, calls that come in to that number a) don’t ring, it just goes straight to voice mail and b) I can’t figure out how to sign out of just this app without deleting it. I have an iPhone max XS. Can you help?
