To everyone crying about Music Beta not being available outside the US, they are significant licensing issues when realising anything involving copyrighted music. So unless you're willing to pay the ridiculous fees record companies would undoubtedly demand, stop whining. We in the US aren't tearing because Spotify isnt available here...

iCloud syncs new stuff, and you can get rid of anything stored on your device. At some points iCloud even manages this for you for example with phototstream, where your mobile devices store the last 1000 photos for one month, and if you want to store them for ever -> move them into an album. Expencive also ment, the aspects of network traffic, in terms of to much data transport makes the networks slow, and also the environmental aspect. And Apple also provided a possiblity to sync apps via ...

Well, on a less technical level, you can see form the demos that you spoke of that certain elements were in place. By November 2007 they had a working demo phone, and I believe they had been working on that for some time before the announcement of the iPhone. Android also had that iOS would not have for some time and in some cases still does not have. they had real multitasking, a notification tray, gps, 3g.

Perhaps they did, but iCloud is a very different service. iCloud is not a cloud based storage service like this is. iCloud is a syncing service that does not allow you to stream. Android had a syncing service for apps a year before this conference. It was demoed at IO 2011.

iTunes was the first service that allowed to pay low prices for music, movies tv-shows... and then download them legaly to your devices. If you watch the video from 19:45 to 33:30, you'll recognize that Google copied that, what was new indeed was the cloud based thing, but Apple didn't stole that, they announced it just one month later with iCloud, and I bed that they had it running at that time as well.

@DocZr0 But right before that comment, he says "So, some of these apps may really be running, and some may not" it depends on what the app developer wants. A person developing a music player will obviously want their app to continue running int he background while a game developer may want to pause the game when the home button is pressed..

Android before the iPhone was not so good, but the groundwork for the OS it is today was there. Google did not have a pre-existing tablet OS before the iPad because the platform was not successful enough to warrant that. It wasn't a copy of the iPad, it was an answer to it. There are plenty of differences between what was Honeycomb (and is now ICS) and iOS.

The demo at 48:18 is a brilliant idea. Think about the possibility of this at "old school" CD, DVD, and Book stores...it may just save them from extinction. Some people just like the idea about a physical store to browse and demo their potential media purchase. They also want their content in the cloud. What a great way to do both using NFC.

My bad; 2010. There are ways to sync across devices with Google and I believe Amazon. My point was that it is not the same. Syncing is not without its flaws as well. If you sync all your content, then any of your devices with less storage will be filled up pretty fast. When you said it was expensive I believe you were referring to data plans. I believe that eventually most plans will be without sms and calling and some day have just data.

@attamalik Google has said that 3.x (honeycomb) is just for the tablets. It's just as well in my opinion, the honeycomb UI is really only useful for a large screen. Phones need a phone OS and tablets need a tablet OS. But I wouldn't be surprised if the new mobile android OS ends up with some simplified honeycomb-like features.

@DocZr0 I think he said both. I'm too lazy to review but I think what he's trying to say is it will do true multitasking as long as memory allows it and if it runs out of memory, will do the shut and restore. i'm not a developer or anything. just a lazy consumer.

The iPhone was announced in January 2007 an shipped in Summer. But they worked on it for two and a half years, and befor that they had also worked for sometime on a multi-touch screen and a software for it. And yes Apple came later with the stuff at the end of your coment, but has it all also since some years. But was the Android version in November 2007 multitouch capable? It takes a lot of effort to implement that, which Apple made first, and very well.

Both Google and Apple are doing a great job by simply competing and making diverse smartphones available on the market. Competition is good for everyone. Android has become ubiquitous, which is not necessarily good for consumers, as they start to behave more and more like Microsoft. Either way, it'll be an interestng battle.

Google may make lots of mistakes, but they learn from them and make their products better. Improvement through constant evolution. And if something doesn't work (i.e Wave), then they take it on the chin and do something else. And it's also refreshing that when they do screw up, they tend not to blame others for their screw-ups. I love Android as a platform. If they can improve native performance and games development support, and fix Android Market, they'd be pretty much perfect in my book.

Pretty good steps, specially like the cooperation where users get update quicker. Cant believe they didnt think of it sooner. I just ordered my Samsung Galaxy SII and been reading lots of articles, forums on the net about android + appz + roms etc etc. On one hand its open and powerful but on the other it does feel like there are tons of issues with openness. Google is on the right path but it needs to step it up fast. I like to get updates for my new 600$ device :)

Lock how great they are now. 3. Google I/O obviously tries to copy WWDC. 4. Similarities? Nearly the only thing that's diffrent is the optic, they're even using the same phrases to descibe it.
