((Seriously, though. Just imagine that you were arrested for no reason, and you're dragged into a room filled with other prisoners. None of them /look/ dangerous though, just like you. What was their crime? You're confused, and a bit scared, and then you become aware of the stage. Is that... musical equipment? Speakers? You begin to grow out of your fear. Maybe this is a prank! Then a blue-haired girl walks out onto the stage, and the music starts. She begins singing, and everyone starts dancing, cheering, pumping their fists. Of course! This is just a set-up! You were falsely arrested, only to be brought to a concert! You expect you'll see this online later, so you look for cameras and wave when you find them. This is awesome! But then you begin to hear exactly what she's singing. In her cute little voice, the blue-haired girl is explaining that your life has been constantly monitored, and that you are being imprisoned because you're had anti-government notions. She's talking about the number of conspirators growing, and explaining how they found you, detailing every bit of it from start to finish. It makes your skin crawl, but everyone else is dancing, so you just go along with it. It's probably just some new song that they're trying to make a music video for. It keeps going, and going, and you keep dancing, trying to convince yourself that it's just a song. You almost do. The bars fall in front of you with a crash, and you find yourself imprisoned. Was this the grand finale? The lights are now dead, and all is deathly silent. What happened? The bars never raise.))

I like how she keeps changing outfits between more formal bureaucratic attire to casual civilian clothes. Kinda symbolic of how she, as the secret police, can be anyone. You pass by her on the streets and she just looks like a normal teenage girl, then everything goes black as a bag is suddenly wrapped around your head from behind you. And when they remove the bag you're in a dark room that suddenly lights up and you see her again in a suit and tie ready to interrogate you for treason.

A lot of people are making weird theories and jokes about the meaning of this song (which is totally fine!) but I want to step in and let y'all know that the secret police actually did exist in Japan mainly during ww2. They were called Kenpeitai and were basically a Japanese KGB- arresting and eliminating those suspected of being 'anti-Japanese' in any way. Imperial Japan was a scary country with arguably the worst record of human rights abuses and war crimes of any society due to the authoritarian and totalitarian government they created that worshiped the emperor as a god and saw itself as the 'only true Asians', giving them the right to do basically anything they wanted. Japan still denies a lot of these events even up until this day- for example, they refuse to acknowledge the Nanjing Massacre which killed an estimated 300,000 over the course of just over two weeks, often considered one of the most horrific events ever to occur. The human experimentation done on Chinese POWs at Unit 731 is mostly left untouched as well, in addition to the well known tradition of 'comfort women'. The 20th century was a very distressing era of human history, not just for Japan but for the world, and I would encourage anyone to take a look into it. It's important to be informed, as the past gives us a lot of insight into current events as well. I would, however, like to give a word of caution to those who plan to gain a deeper understanding of the human rights abuses during the Meiji Era- there are pictures and graphic primary sources that are quite disturbing. The current status of Japanese culture, society, and government is sort of a result of forcible American influence over the region following ww2, and they helped in some ways but did a lot of damage in a LOT of other ways. The whole cause and effect series of events of the early-mid 1900s is quite complicated, but good to know. The most important thing to do is to keep trying to make things better, but also to acknowledge our pasts in order to learn from them, respect victims, and move forward.
