I've spent close to 20 hours researching this topic. The DJI is better priced if you go for the Adventure package. Battery last significantly longer and doesn't take hours to charge it and more importantly, the DJI works reliably. The GoPro has a better quality but their tracking record when it comes to reliability is terrible. The Action 4 had a lot of issues when it came out but the most recent framework has fixed it. If you have unlimited funds, I'd pick the GoPro. If you're conscious about your spending and want something that is dependable and works great, The Action 4 is your got o.

Watching on a 4k monitor the gopro had a lot more detail. However, it was noted in the video that the sharpness was turned down by two on the DJI so it would have been nice to see them back to back at default settings.

I was in th mall to buy an action cam to bring when I am driving with my motor vehicle, saw a pricey GoPro 12 and an Action 4 with a good price but was undecided between the two. ended up buying Action 4 after staying in the mall for about an hour while watching some reviews and this. Just placed an order for the DJI Action 4 Adventure Combo after watching this. The battery charger case, quick-release mounting kit and USB-C Audio input all made so much more sense over the GoPro. Thanks for sharing the review.

My own eyes 👀 don’t deceive me, the GoPro just looks darker throughout the entire video as compared to the DJI Action 4. I prefer the color pop on the DJI Action 4 more, which just has more light and just looks better. Had plan to get the previous version with the Action 3. But it’s a no brainer for me with the never model in the Action 4.

Returned my OT4. Watching videos back on a monitor the OA4 showed a lot more compression issues at a resolution of 4k. Texture and detail was just missing from roads, snow and grass for example. I’m sure it would have been picking it up but the processing just lost them. Also, over than very low light the GP seems to still do better. One think that finally made my mine up with the firmware update in the EU reducing their max working temp to 48degrees (bringing it in like with GoPros). I started getting warnings come up saying max recording length of 9 mins at certain settings after. Happy with my GoPro 11 now, no over heating or freezing (as peddled by most of the sponsored YT videos and then regurgitated by views)

Sold the 10 and 11 Go Pros, got fed up with the over heating and switching off, also the when connected the camera to the phone it loses single alot anf you have faff about trying to connect agan. Dji are the clear winners hence why iv switched. Would never by a go pro again unless they address there faults which they never do and just re package it every year with no major changes.

GoPro is darker but the colours have more detail. The sunset in the back at the beginning looks really nice where as the Action 4 has just a bright sky in the back and no nuances.

As I understand, the Hero 12 adds a 1/4” standard tripod socket, which for me is a huge positive that wasn’t mentioned. Thus, as nice as the DJI magnetic mount is (which GoPro should definitely adopt), the tripod socket may win out for me. Also important to note DJI front screen is touchscreen whereas GoPro is not. Also, would like to hear more people talk about any differences in the ease of editing and their software, as well as any integrated apps.

if you like the colors better on the gopro, you can just color grade it. If the input of the dji is better (more accurate), why would you pick gopro? You can still color grade it in post.

Here’s the thing, DJI visually has more light. Nothing you can’t adjust in post. I always would rather have overexposure than underexposure.

I have the gopro hero 11 and the action 4 I prefer the dji. I really like the reliability and the menu.

I think the DJI colour range has more scope to colouring unless the Gopro is not in its flat colour profile or whatever it is now.

My first Action 4 had the same compartment door issue. In fact both doors came off on my first Action 4. And since you have the same issue it has to be a quality control issue. I have two Action 4 camera's and the second one does not have the sliding door issues. I am certain there are likely a few others that may have had the same problem. I bought my first one when the product was introduced, something I rarely do, due to costs and unknown technical issues that are found in the first products. I just purchased the second one about two months ago.

Uk prices today GoPro 12 £399 the Action 4 £289 , my decision was already made as GoPro subscription was a scam as they offered me the 12 for £339 in a sale and also the same price for non subscribers, onto Dji I go , great review btw

Although Gopro is the first brand to enter this sector as an action camera, it has not been able to overcome the heating problem for 12 generations, including the 12th. In addition, I think it is a failure that it needs an extra connection for wired and wireless microphone use and despite this, quality sound cannot be obtained. You forget that gopro has alot of technology glitches and overheating in 14 minutes but DJI doesn't overheat

I’d love to see a review of DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3. Seems like an amazing pocket sized vlog camera. Even if it is the same price as a Sony ZV1. I can’t put the ZV1 in my pocket.

I have both of these. Hands down Action 4 is the better looking image. In standard and log profile. More natural looking colors. Hdr mode on gopro is ugly and oversampled. Looks so unnatural. Easy win for Action 4

I had a gopro 9 and loved the extreme daylight colours for my European cycling videos but it was so unreliable. For example , I endlessly had to keep opening the battery container door to restart it as the action button failed many times and I missed out on loads of great footage. Then it just stopped working completely after 2 1/2 years. I looked after it and it was never underwater. I replaced it with a DJI Osmo 3. Everything is great reliability wise but all the colours come across as dull in my opinion. What do you do? Go for reliability or video quality?? It’s a tricky one

I used to have a couple gopros, dropped them, I was sick and tired of unreliability. Ended up using the iphone for what I do, researching action cams again, will probably go with the Action 4…

The DJI Osmo Action 4 gives more color pop compared to the GoPro.

Have been using my hero5 blk, hope GoPro proves them selves this year because I have multiple GoPro accessories. If not I’m switching to DJI. 🤞🏽

Great video & helped me lots. I decided to go with the GoPro Creator edition as the colours outdoor just seem to Pop more than the dji plus by the time you add up all the extras you would need for the dji to get the same as the GoPro Creator edition at time of posting would have cost me more. as GoPro had Easter deal on 👍 just wish GoPro had a better charging pod for the spare batteries like you pointed out its not very good.. Thanks for the review. You didn't mention anything about the long recharging time on 5he go pro. I got the GoPro Hero 12 creator package a few days ago. I'm currently debating whether I should return it to get the Ace Pro instead. However, I'm concerned that the Ace pro is having a focusing problem based on some YT reviewers.

I wanna like the dji more because of all the +’s it has over greedy go pro. But sadly the go pro just looks better😭 colors on the gopro look like OLED and dji looks washed like a old LCD.

As much as I'm frustrated with gopro, I really love the color and I'm trapped with a camera that freezes a lot 😭😭😭

Curious how the magnetic mount makes it any easier on the DJI since it looks like you still have to use a bolt to attach the magnetic mount to whatever you attach it to. In other words, it looks like the magnetic mount itself looks just like what is already integrated into the GoPro. What am I missing?

I'm sure dji is a nice camera but if u want a durable point and shoot camera gopro is good, it is strong durable and always ready for action no flip screens and mics and magnets that can easily break and fall off, I need simplicity and don't need to worry about breaking stuff. My gopro are always in a cage and nothing has ever broken and has stood up to hard action.. But I'm sure Dji camera looks good and maybe for some people it would be good.. but for durability Gopro is the one.

How looks colors for a gopro after editing,white balance still looking saturated or clean white?

There is no question the DJI is the better camera. There is no substitute for the large image sensor. No problem to add warmth in post production. Hopefully next version GoPro create amazing new tech. But this round is DJI.

i dont get it, in low light the dynamic range is lower on the dji from watching the clips and it should be the reverse because even tho there are more pixels per inch on the gopro, the gopro should fuck up with handling of patches due to smaller censor so unedited raw log should have a higher dynamic range on the dji. I assume you did not record in log for the first clips?

I have 20 years of DSLR experience and 9 years as a working photographer. To my eyes; the skin tone of you and your family look so much more pleasant in the GP12, like WAY BETTER. Its a shame because the DJI has so much going for it, but I can't unsee how washed out your face looks and how muddy the details get. Thanks for the review.

You didn't mention the awful battery life on the GoPro and the fact that after fully charging the battery (even if it's not in the cam) it depletes really fast and it takes ages to recharge also the dji mic 2 connects wirelessly via Bluetooth no cable or dongle needed, also the front screen is a touch screen on the action 4 the magnetic attachment also works in vertical mode too and the menu system is much easier to use also gopro apps suck they almost never work, the combo kit you get with the action 4 also comes with 3 batteries and a charging case plus a cage to allow magnetic vertical mounting plus on Amazon in the UK the dji cam costs £21.00 less than the gopro. PS I own the gopro 11 and yes it's good but I much prefer the action 4, just saying !

I really don't dig the hdr look of the gopro. It can really make things look unnatural when it's trying so hard to equalize the exposure of everything.

Thats easy, for me the action 4 looks way better.

The problem is the hight shutter speed. This can be overcome by shooting 60p, but then the camera overheats. It may work for shirt burst type of video, but whos doing that routinely? Using a nd grad will make rocksteady and hypersmooth unnusable, the while vudeo turns into earthquake footages. Nonreal options left. Also. It feels dumb to pay for hypersmooth and than cancel it with a ND grad that does not come for free

Action 4 is my choice.
