You make some great points here, and the video quality difference isn't a big deal if your mostly posting to social media sites that will be viewed mobile devices.The big advantage of the X3 is you can get more creative shots than you can with the Hero 11. Of course the Hero 11 is more rugged with a case. But I agree with you, I would go with the Hero 11 for vlogging. Great video Suzi, and thanks for sharing.

Comparing apples to oranges. They both do what they are designed for well. I have a Gopro for what it does, and I'm considering buying an Insta 360 for what it does. I appreciate you making this clear. And your other videos are very useful.

Great review! Love the comparisons and good on you for actually showing your adorable child. So many always just block out kids, like who really cares lol, it humanizes bloggers to just show family, friends, and cute kids, love your review! Audio is definately worse on 360

As a non-action guy, had no interest in 360 cameras, but click on some video out of boredom. Not getting good info, looked to see if you made a video. Thank you so much! You always provide the info a buyer is interested in, like being in a store and being able to play with the cameras in order to make a well informed and satisfying purchase. This was very helpful! Though the Hero 8 Black turned me off, in these camera comparisons, GoPro always amazes me with the video quality. Quality alone, I'd go for a GoPro style camera. The shape also looks easier to handle. Plus for a non-post-tinkerer, less tinkering helps me out. I'm still holding out for the Hero 12, hoping upon arrival, it makes the Action 4 price drop which is what I have my eye on. Thanks, your camera descriptions are always super helpful!

Great video! Instead of using the rhode setup, can’t you just use a small external mic that has a 3.5 Jack on the mic adapter for the x3?

Interesting. I guess it depends on your vlogging style. If you are walking or standing in a scene which you are describing in some way, the X3 allows you to cut instantly (in post production) from the shot of yourself, to the shot of the scene, without having to whirl the camera around, or start another shot, or edit out anything from the clip. And you can decide later at what points you are framing yourself, and when you take in the scene. Non-360 cameras simply can't do that. It's like having multiple cameras at once. As for audio, well, as I've said before, the stereo sound from the X3 is very good and the "wind noise reduction" setting is pretty bad - only worth using on a really windy day (and you seemed to be making this video on a remarkably still day - I'm moving to where you live! :) )

On HERO11, if you use Linear+Lock, you can just set the orientation to portrait (9:16) and then you can hold the camera in any orientation (regular, sideways, upside down) and it will still record portrait (9:16) right side up.

Great video. It shows that these are two different types of cameras. From this video it is clear GoPro has by far better picture quality and sound. I understand GoPro does have a 360 camera. It would be interesting to see if it has the same picture and sound quality. Also how do these cameras do in bright sunlight? I notice sometimes on my cellphone that the screen is completely washed out in very bright sunlight. Keep up the good work. 👍

GoPro Max is their 360 camera; it's several years old now and due for an update. We didn't buy the Max, but we'll consider getting the next version. The image quality on both cameras is much better in bright light; it was especially cloudy and moody on the day I filmed, but GoPro for sure has more dynamic range and doesn’t blow out the highlights aa much as the X3 does.

I think for my preference I would like to use the Go Pro as a main cam and insta 360 as my semi drone or for my b roll shots. The GoPro has more high quality in sound output.

Well I think the GoPro wins. You have to worry less for exterior damage. If len's filter gets scratch or broken from an impact, just change it and continue filming. In the X3 you have to be constantly aware if your two lens are in danger of damage. Nevertheless an X3 is a good handy 2nd camera where you can take advantage of the 360 recording. In many crowded places people around you will react in a negative way with the X3 when they see a lens pointing at them. GoPro is less conspicuous. Never had problems with a GoPro. Microphones also make people react in a negative way. The smaller the better.

Hi Suzi, thank you for comparing the action cameras. Filming in 360 is not the main option for me. How Insta 360 X3 do filming in the evening with low lighting? I make vlogging on Gopro 10 in 4k 50fps without mediamod (I have it but don't like to setup mics and changing batteries with it). I just make sounds higher in Adobe Pr and voice sounds good for me. I ordered 3 enduro batteries and can charge them with ZGCine box. But not sure that Insta have many accessories. The colors looks poor and sound is quiet. I think someone will buy it for his own purposes like filming in 360 or more comfortable carrying in hand.

I think the X3 does a decent job in low light, but not the best. Action cameras aren't ideal for low lighting.

GoPro is still best overall for vlogging. Insta360 is best for unique footage/b-roll shots.

If the x3 was in medium sharpnes and vivid it would be more pleasant to the eye! Go pro still better quality but the x3 is so much more camera and so many more things ! Thanks for the very nice video!

For me go pro lens distortion is pretty nice and its 20mm liear mode is extremely flattering for vloging

I agree about the linear mode for vlogging. The X3's linear mode is quite a bit wider than GoPro's.

Definitely the GoPro for me. But I am anxiously awaiting the release of the DJI Pocket 3. Fingers crossed that it will be released this month, following a similar release schedule of the Pocket 2. But I can't find any news that DJI is even working on it, so who knows? 😅 Thanks for the video! 👍

Is it just me or is the audio quality on the GoPro far superior ? The Insta sounds muffled in comparison to me. Image quality inferior as well. Very noticeable. Does the media mod improve the GoPro audio compared to the standard mic ? Thanks

They compliment each other. GoPro for vlogging, insta360 for everything else except action stuff. Use the gopro for that as its more rugged. I love my insta360 I'm so glad I got one.

Nice video. And the time it takes to create it is really appreciated, thank you. But I have to take issue with your comment about the audio being good on both cameras. Clearly the 360 sounds like you have a muffle over yourself. Whereas the GoPro‘s audio is much clearer. Also, the image quality there’s no comparison, call pro takes it. About the only thing I can see in the Insta 360 as an advantage is that 360° capability. But when you start manipulating an image or a video to the degree that you have to do with the 360, the image quality no question suffers greatly. In my mind, there’s no question. The GoPro is much much superior, and at this point, I don’t even see a point for the 360. Thanks again for the review.

Those are fair points. The X3 sounded especially muffled in this video, and I think it was the slight breeze activating the wind reduction. There are times (like when I'm filming in front of the lake) when the X3 sounds quite good. But the audio quality is not consistent on the X3, which was worth saying as well.

@@Gemini_Connect The X3 wind noise reduction setting has a radical effect on the audio at all times, whether there's wind or not - for a start, it reduces it to mono. I'd only use it if I was forced to video in a gale!

Hey, good coverage....though 1 point....Insta360 X3 can connect to a Bluetooth microphone. So u dont need to make it bulky with Rode Go mic. Also bluetooth mic are a lot cheaper.

Is there a way to disactivate the GoPro 9 from turning on every time you plug it in or unplug it from charging? I'm new to the GoPro and the little I've used it I'm not liking it. My Iphone is so much more user friendly, and it's not just because I've been using it for years. It's so much easier to navigate an Iphone than it does a GoPro.

Was she using the built-in mic on the GoPro or the mic on the media mod? The media mod mic sucks, at least it does without using the large foam windscreen that comes with it. Was my immediate impression.

I usually use the Media Mod, but have been experimenting with using the GoPro built in mics. And I think it sounds decent as long as you're reasonably close without a ton of noise, especially with the windslayer.

I think the Insta360 X3, or even X2, bad for Vlogging, as you cant search-edit-crop using the App by looking at a wave form track. So I cant quickly crop the parts that I stay silent, making me listen at playspeed x1 for all footage, mark, then crop. I still use the Sony X3000 for Vloging. Maybe solution is Single Cam Mode, that way, it would even up with GoPro, you would edit in normal software app, look for silent waves, delete.

I have both cameras, gopro 11 has 2 problems 1) if you are talking from the backside of camera, its very thought to hear you 2) if use it as a vlogging camera and pointing the camera on you, the lens is tight.

Yes, GoPro can shoot vertical, but you have to turn the camera sideways. You don't have to do that with the X3.

I had the wind reduction on since I was shooting outside. Someone told me that when shooting with it off, the sound is 100x better, but to me that doesn't make sense to do when shooting outside.

my point on "No 8". Gopro just inflates prices and makes a "deal" with a subscription. I hope insta360 doesnt do that anti consumer shit. you can buy a 1-2 yr insurance when you buy from the insta360 website. what i want for the x lineup is a replaceable screw-able lens

Gopro image quality is miles ahead of Insta. Even Max video quality is way better than X3. Insta looks just to digital in my opinion.
