Battery life is another massive difference between these two. The DJI will last nearly twice as long as the Hero 12. I think the GoPro is clearly better in quality of daytime recording, stabilization, and aftermarket accessories. DJI is clearly better in battery life, low light recording, and functionality. This is basically an impossible choice to make.

There’s another reason that most people don’t realise with DJI, quite often they release a product onto the market early to beat the competition. This means that they might have missed an important update in their product and will update them afterwards. And the good thing about that is that they usually get better with each update. So any niggles they may have are usually sorted out after these updates. So even if GoPro is a bit better initially, the action 4 may end up even better.

But, by the same logic, GoPro can also publish updates to make it better in the future. It's probably a safe bet that GP low light performance won't be reaching parity with the OA4 with its current hardware so if that's important then the OA4 is the better choice for that. But other improvements, if any, will be hard to predict and it's a gamble to buy a particular model early based solely on hoping a future firmware update makes it even better than the competition. If a shopper is on the fence then it might make the most sense to wait a little into the production cycle and see what all of the competition brings forth in the form of firmware updates to shape the final product and then make a decision.

@@markwornom1050 , true, but then there’s the fact that the GoPro has been known to overheat and shutdown. Plus depending on where you live you could probably get the action 4 with the adventure pack for about the same price as the GoPro by itself. Now that’s a bargain

@@DavidReynolds-kr6yh For someone just starting out, I think it comes down to value and which advantages you prefer. If the DJI would have been out with a product as good as the OA4 before I got comfy in the GP world, I might have gravitated that way and the adventure pack sounds like a good deal. But, I've never had a GP overheat on me and I don't film for long periods of time or in a static environment so that's not a big deal to me. The only time I ever have a problem with my Hero 10 is when it's in the Media Mod where it sometimes locks up and I have to remove the battery. Otherwise, it records until the battery dies doing night lapses or time warps when riding my bike. Take a look at Philip Skraba's recent YT video on overheating tests if you're not in the US. The OA4 was the first to fall.

Thanks for this review. It's a hard choice, i prefer the stabilization of the gopro12 and the image quality but wow !! the action 4 is just above the gopro12 in low light. The difference in stabilization and image quality is very minimal, color are better on the Action4, maybe a bit more saturated. I think my 1st choice will go with the action4 just for its capacity under low light... but here we didnt compare the differents setting and options that both can do. Thx.

Unfortunately the longer i make the videos the worse they will do with the KZfaq algorithm… so have to keep it short. The action 4 has one big advantage! It doesn’t overheat and doesn’t freeze!

I just read somewhere that theres an HDR mode in action 4. Theres no toggle to turn it off or on. But its automatically on if you choose to record on h265.

The gopro 12 gets extremely hot. To the point where you can’t touch it… for the two days that I had it it didn’t turn off due to overheating… but i think it was close

Thanks for that review. In many situations I found the GoPro 12 better, especially HDR-Video. But I am impressed by the low-light capabilities of the Action 4, since I film a lot under such conditions, this is the cam to go for me the next time I buy an action cam.

No, there is no HDR mode that can be enabled. Supposedly it's already on...but...the Action 3 does better in those shady areas imo

Thanks for the comparison. I went with the Action 4, because the ultra wide lens is less warped, which is important for me to capture travel video. I also like the battery life and ease of use with the DJI. The HDR feature is looking really good with the GoPro 12 though.

I’m surprised that we didn’t get a HDR mode on the Action 4. There was a HDR mode on the Action 3 after that big update in November last year

@@RedskullPro DJI is marketing the Action 4 to have more dynamic range in the new bigger sensor, so they think they don’t need software HDR. But, when they see how good the GoPro HDR is, I hope DJI opts for it later too. I’m guessing, that it’ll compromise battery life to add HDR in the Action 4 though.

there is a warp in OSMO A4 but its like cut in the middle (triangle view) you can see it more in ULTRA VIEW your face is shrinked and so thin. . . and gopro is like (circle view) "fisheye". . i like fisheye better than seeing MEN IN BLACK alien. . if you are skinny and use DJI OA4 your face would be more skinnier when you shoot yourself in the middle POV. . you know what i mean? sorry for my english, I'm not good at it. .

Great video fella, always love your reviews and channel, in daytime there is not much in it but I prefer the natural look the Osmo gives and overall elsewhere I prefer the DJI I still have a Go Pro 11 as a 3rd cam and its so buggy I hate it. That latter reason is the bigger reason I may never go back to go pro ever again. If its not a phantom SD card error its overheating haha. Love my DJI, thanks again for the excellent reviews

To my eye seems like GoPro is way overexposed, has absolutely no usable low-light video, slightly worse audio and slightly better stabilization (occasionally). I guess with the $20-ish price difference, I would simply go with DJI

I’ve been using the go pro system starting from the 10 & 11. I was waiting for the 12 to come out with a bigger sensor but it’s the same. So I sold the 11 and went with the DJI action 4 and I sure dont regret it. Go pro menu is just too complicated. The action 4 menu is super easy and you can navigate quickly to what you need to use. Also after using the action 4. The GoPro video quality can’t compare to the action 4.

There's a new sharpness adjustment to match "sharpness" in the Action 4 if I remember properly. It's hard to decide between these 2 they're both great products. I think the Osmo has a slight edge. For small sensors I think bigger pixel pitch is important.

The lack of detail on the in the Dji footage at 6:42 is apparent. I don’t get how the GoPro gets more details with a smaller sensor. It’s not even about sharpening, there is just nothing on the ground in the Dji footage.

I have ditched my GoPro 11 and bought the Dji Action 4. love the battery case, the huge extending selfie site, and much more important, the ease of use and general great quality with the Action 4. I feel GoPro is losing innovation and quality to Dji now. Very happy with the all round usability and low light use of the Action 4, plus no subscription required to get the most out of the Mimo app! 🙂

great comparison video! I actually liked the GoPro over the DJI for low light -- the GoPro had a better overall expsoure. The DJI has more of a spot meter which may leave some highlights washed out. The GoPro looks more "moody" but a little harder to manage. DJI clearly has better audio; but a good mic will remedy that problem. Just my opinion and personal taste.

Thanks for a great video. Better video quality and stabilization are the two most import things for an action camera, so this has me leaning towards the GoPro. I would never use an action camera for low light as neither are good quality. I like many things about both cameras. I have seen several videos, including this one one, where it appears to me that the DJI brightens shadows in a way that gives the overall picture a hazy quality - like the camera lens is dirty. I am surprised that no one talks about this. I really appreciate your thorough and helpful videos. All the best to you, Bob

Hero 12’s HDR and overall features are better, but all things considered I bought the DJI. I believe it’s worth buying both if you have the cash since they excel at different things.

Based on this video and your last one comparing the 3 gopros. It seems like the value buys are the Hero 10/DJI Action 3. I just returned my Action 4. I took all of my indoor footage with the 3 and 4 at the same time The 4 seems to have more indoor motion low light artifacts. Probably based on the ability to show a little more in low light. I think the 4 needs some updates. And while the Hero 10 is not quite as detailed as the 12/11 it seems to have better low light and color balance possibly. I been enjoying your videos for what seems like years new. Thanks for another great comparison.

very good comparison. thanks a lot. just a question, did you minimize the full ISO on gopro ? normaly when its auto i makes so much noise. i guess here is the big differance between these both. i wanted to buy the 12 but i will use it for diving, special for dark water in caves etc, of course with extra lights but theese looks much better with a4 i guess

Find these cameras so close in most reviews that either is the best choice. I usually prefer the FOV on the GP simply as slightly narrower at similar settings and usually prefer GP colours (not always, sometimes off). OA4 colours often more realistic. Lower light OA4 is easily the best, which would be much better when outdoors hiking in forests. Quite like the GP light trails options. Any of the old GP freeze ups? Most seem to be eliminated, but the 11 still had them at times. A bit of a toss up…where I live OA4 is sold out and GP 12 is in stock…may make the choice for me 😊. Nicely done…and that iPhone 14 section looked good too!

GoPro on all but the 1080 looks way sharper to me. The stabilization test the GoPro wins hands down yeah the action 4 is decent but the horizon lock was terrible. Low light action 4 is great but having a larger sensor definitely helps GoPro 13 should fix this 🤔. At 11:00 change your white balance that should fix the “yellows” Great review thanks for the info 👌

Yes, you can definitely change the white balance from Auto, but realistically most people won’t know what that means… so i left everything on auto mode

You should use 5.3k on gopro ;) its look way better than 4k. also LOG on both at low light. In general gopro looks sharper as you said, also has better dynamic range. Also, I don't like this fish eye look on action when you fast pan on right/left. look at sky 6:07 on both (or 5:52 action 4 looks like lens in JAR :P i dont know but i feel bad when I see it :/ very unnatural. gopro is flat, but action bended :/ I think maybe its bcs action lens is too wide)

I actually had two clips with 5.3k vs 4k but since the 4k samples from the gopro were already better than the 4k samples from the action 4 i decided there was no point in adding them.

I like mountings on Action 4 Also, battery life is longer and charging faster. Low light image also is better on Action 4. But in day light gopro makes much better image, that's why I will probably go with gopro

Put aside the color difference just focus on the quality of recording, the Go-pro clarity is next level and far ahead compare to Action4. These both camera are not ready yet for low light. A budget smartphone can do that better so i don't care of that. Well done Gopro I am just not getting what was the purpose of DJI Action 4 release? They could hold it for some major updates and tough competition

I think they released the Action 4 because the Action 3 got really bad reviews at first… distortion… focus issues, etc Even though they fixed all that those bad reviews were the first thing potential customers would see. They had to release the “new” model to try to get away from the bad press

Ахуенный английский ) весь видос ржал спасибо . Хз что из них лучше . По цветам и натуральности гопро12 , стабилизатор лучше гопро12 . Для влогов где чаще человек лучше экшн 4, но где чаще происходит спорт все раки гопро12
