GoPro Hero 8 and usbc support to HDMI and iPad Pro

Testing my GoPro Hero 8 with usbc hub to see if it has HDMI support and iPad Pro support.
Conclusion: at this time the usbc port is only good for charging the Gopro and possibly audio in/out. You will need to remove the micro sd card.

I find you can connect it to the iPad but you cant use a hub it has to be type c to type c

Simply go to connections choose MTP to use USB-C and you can open it in your ipad pro.

when I tried out the go pro hero 8 it seems u can just use the app to import all of your files to where u want them instead of always taking out the SD card. Is there a flaw with it as to why u didn't transfer files that way?

Yeah, in GoPros infinite wisdom they didn't make they're codec compatible with Windows 10. Mine will not work via usb. Just another way to say "fuck you" to the people who spend their hard-earned money on their shit product.

Issue could be that current firmware does not activate HDMI out? Maybe there will be a new firmware out when the mod actually ships. The slim port transmitter in the GoPro is said to be "standard compliance".

UPDATE: Hypoxic has informed me that the firmware code seems to imply that the output will be "keyed" to the GoPro dongle (aka "mod") only. So no generic dongle will be accepted.

probably not because GoPro they make an adapter and they want you to buy that you're at the by the media mod

The hero8 lacks a little chip needed to allow video out via USB C. It's the same reason why the Nintendo Switch Lite cannot output video to a TV over USB.

I may not be correct - that chip enables video to go through the USBC, but if the media dock is after the connector, then something else must be going on.

That was what I was wondering. My dji mavic air outputs from the usbc to my tv.

GoPro 8 doesn’t allow HDMI output which is silly... I had to use my GoPro 7 - and in the settings can to output HDMI (remember to turn off the automatic power off - to stop it shutting down) Also, on GoPro 8 use the batter cover to press dow the storage card card and to slide it out. That the best way to remove the storage card.

thanks for the info! Hero 8 does allow hdmi out, you just have to buy the media mod (which I bought). really sucks that they are going towards this business model.

There must be a firmware hack or something. If the media MOD is using the USBC port then the signal is getting out somehow. That being said no one will probably find it until those mods are released. Maybe they haven't released the firmware update needed to support them yet.

Yeah it's a real pisser! My immediate use for the Hero 8 was to be able to record audio via line-in. My store sold me a generic brand of USB-C 3.5mm mic adapter, happily chirping, "This works great!" WRONG!!If you can get hold of this www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/gopro-35mm-microphone-adapter-for-hero5a6a7-black apparently this works. Be prepared to fork out (surprise surprise - Hey GoPro, don't be afraid to keep those costs mounting!!) even MORE money though!

@@walthompson8210 GoPro Hero5, 6, 7 and 8 have all required the mic dongle as there is no analogue input. So no passiv micadapter will work.

@@GrenlandUnderVann Damn. Wonder if there's a way to 'spoof' the key to get it to output. But then you'd have to get only the HDMI signal and filter the rest.
