I prefer the hero footage. It has more contrast and better blacks, and when it switches to the silver, there's a bit of a magenta cast

One of the best things about this camera is the battery life. I bought it as a second camera to my go pro hero3 black and its battery life lasts nearly x3 times longer than the black when i have the wifi on. There is a reduction in image quality but for what i do the price outweighs it . I use them for my drum videos online if anyone wants to see the difference

I also got this before christmas. I like it. I brought it because of the form factor of gopro. Use it out door with light source behind the camera will get a better result. The video quality is actually better than what you see on youtube. I picked up a handle and started to film. The best result usually needed to set the gopro still and leave it alone. And you do the funny thing in front of it like other people playing a stun, jump down from a cliff or fly. My choice is let my three years old talks. She wont talk when she see normal camera because she like the lcd screen and want to look at that. She like the go pro too but after a min she gave it back to me and i started to film her at her angle. (lower angle) by putting the camera on the picnic table. It is not necessary to worry about focus and framing. Just focus on the thing you do, talk what u want to talk, enjoy the time. It has the best result when the object is close to the camera, like at a crowded place, christmas train, air plane, since it is built for self portrait. When she is moving, I use the handle lay my arm straight and filp the image upside down and the camera will kinda steady itself. My arm also at a relex position too, plus the angle is at her eye level. So it will pick up what she said. Anyways, not fancy but very convenience.

for $130, this is pretty damn good.

This is great for people buying their first GoPro and don't want to spend $500 on the top of the line Hero 4 Black (like you said). I actually bought a Hero 3 White for $199 for this same reason. The image quality for the HERO is pretty much the same as the Hero 3 White from the samples you showed. As I do more with my Hero 3 White, I'm not terribly impressed with the quality. It works and gets the job done, but is no where near as crisp and sharp as the top of the line models.

A GoPro has been on my wish list for quite some time now. But like most people, which model to buy has been a big question. I consider myself an amateur photographer a.k.a. a "Happy Snapper" lol, and from time I have a 11x14 or 16x20 print made a Hero 4 black or silver will be the camera for me. It would be great if you could do a side by side comparison of photos from different cameras. It's much easier to see the quality difference of the photos that way.

I'm thinking of picking one of these up as a cheaper GoPro that is cheaper to replace if I brake it. I've been using a GoPro 3 Black for a while on my RC aircraft, but I think using a GoPro Hero would be more sensible if I were to total it. :)

It's also a great choice for hazardous situations where you might not want to risk a much more expensive 4 Silver or Black

Can you make a video showing all the things GoPro makes and explain what they do? Like I don't understand the difference in the mounts and what to use them on, etc.

Well i bought my self one of these. and i used it for my mtb races. and i must say pretty damn good for n cheap camera.

I love the Go Pro hero as my first action camcorder....great video & Better audio than the newer hero + 😊. Dropped it yesterday & thought I broke lense...thank God it's ok 😁

actually you can find nice battery packs off amazon that connect straight to the back and have their own waterproof housing. the audio with it sucks but it allows about 5 more hours of filming time

I feel the better comparison would have been with the GoPro Hero3 White, rather than the Hero4 Silver. The reason being is that they are nearly the same price range and almost the same in all regards of shooting styles. For me after I seen that it did not have the ability to use the mic adaptor or interchangeable battery made me buy a used Hero3 White for $32 more than this one. This is a great idea on paper but the corners cut should make the price lower than what it is for this unit IMHO, Really for this price point it should offer a batter changeability and the mic option (cable sold separately of course). Wifi would be nice but it would be nice to have, but I feel that it could be left off and still done cheaply.

Great review - I'm concerned about the lens fogging up etc underwater. The air and water temp difference in Cape Town is substantial, with other (non gopro) action cameras fogging up is a big issue... your thoughts on this?

Nice review. I am wondering about fogging. If they built it into the case and glued the lens to the front port or something like that, then it may not fog at all. I'm picking one up today. Can't go wrong at that price

I'm looking for an easy to cary high quality camera to take pictures with. I know I could get any old camera but I like the fish eye effect that the go pro gives with the wide angle lens. Should I get the go pro just for the lens to take photos with or are there higher quality cameras with the same lens out there????

You should check out a camera like the Denver ACT 8030W. This ships for £69.99 ($110), has a screen, records in 1080P 60FPS, has WiFi and comes with more accessories. If you want to go cheap, go cheap properly..

maybe it's a stupid question, but can you turn the recording view 180 degrees? Like as if you add a suction mount that puts your gopro actually upside down, just so you don't need to change the video orientation after importing it to the computer? I know it was possible in HERO2

Hi, hopefully getting this camera for Xmas and looking for a case that would be able keep this and some mounts safe. i'm going skiing so it would need to be small enough to fit in a rucsack on the plane. I'm a newcomer to gopros and i dont have any accessories at all so it wouldn't need to be able to house backpacks etc. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks :)
