Update required for hero7. I absolutely agree aboout weight. Recently got hit with an extremely heavy windstorm. It was hard for me to stand in place and the drone was keeping the camera stable. Very impressive.

Good review. I recently bought a karma and it’s on the way. Already have a hero 7 but it’s nice to know that is competitive in the market in 2019. And it’s really 1/3 of the price as a Mav2. Seems like a really good budget drone.

Glad you liked it,... also glad you didn’t call me a douchebag again. 🤙🏻 I’ll end up getting a Mavic Mini some point soon too. From what I see, there’s a lot less HD compression in the details of the video... not to mention the colors look awesome. Enjoy it and fly safe.

Thanks for an unbiased and useful review. You would think people were paid by DJI to trash the karma. I have both the Mavic zoom and the karma, two karmas in fact, and while the Mavic is a superior drone, that does not change nor diminish the usefulness, quality and value of the Karma. Both Kamas, a hero black 6 and a hero black 7, with the cases and all that comes with them, were about the same price as the 1 Mavic zoom. Learn the strengths, use them, know the weaknesses and avoid them. Like many other things in life, trash in trash out. A drone can be no better than the pilot. So, "poo" pilot, "poo" results.

I couldn't agree more. This video was actually a follow up to a 2018 video I made using my Karma for the first time with a hero 5. MANY MANY people thought I was paid by DJI to make it...while in reality, the quality just wasn't there in comparison to my mavic pro. With that being said (and one year later) I think the hero 7 paired with the karma delivers a much cleaner result with video than my Mavic. I'd love to get my hands on a Mavic 2, or the Zoom.. I've only heard good things,. Thanks so much for the comment, appreciate it.

Adventure Trail Hiker I’ve found that the GoPro Karma with a hero 7 has way less compression in details, but the Mavic pro has a significantly further range. The Karma flys on WiFi signal where the Mavic can fly on wifi and rc. If I was to suggest a drone, I would consider looking into newer options like the Mavic Mini,... it’s going to have a similar price point and is substantially smaller and captures amazing images. Does the follow me mode have it where the drone follows you instead of just watching you from one spot? Like can it have a constant side shot if you are riding a bicycle?

Boone Hois no, it’s more like active tracking vs a true “follow me” mode... dji drones that have true follow modes are still pretty unreliable, imho. Look into the Skydio 2, that drone is incredible for active follow tracking and an outdoor sporty lifestyle. Hope that helps.

Hello, I'm from Costa Rica, I wish to buy a Karma drone (used ) and with this review I feel more confident, one question apart from Amazon where I find parts?

Daniel Gomez because the Karma is discontinued from GoPro, finding parts is pretty difficult. Your best bet would be to look at eBay and search for some third party websites that manufacture props or other items and sell directly. I hope that helps, thanks for the comment!

In Sweden it its possible to buy the bundle all included karma stuff but no camera for 1/3 of the Mavic pro rtf. I ordered one since I have a gp7black laying around somewhere. Interesting to se if I experience the the same problem with delay. The old problem with karma was, if I remember correctly, som latch for the battery that caused them to crash. I think it’s fixed in 2019...

Andreas Giöbel that was the original issue, they recalled and soon fixed that issue, probably closer to 2016. Let me know if you find a delay when you fly.

Tom DeCicco well now it’s returned, 3 flights for 5 minutes and then RMA , original gimbal and harness broke, no karma mode. New stuff from go pro, drone started and it died again w/o flying. No karma mode....bye Karma (btw used gp7b)

No, it does not fit... The GoPro Hero 8 has a different flap-access for its digital outs. Sad, but true. :/

I didn't color correct any of the footage to show what it looks like straight out of the camera. In my most recent video (you can find a link in the pinned comments), I color correct all of that footage. It is clean and IMHO beautiful. Definitely worth a look.

I just can't explain to myself, why does GoPro provide updates for Hero 7 compatibility do a drone they have discontinued and recalled 2 weeks after launch. Other than that i think it's a good piece of filming equipment.

Agreed 100%. It's unfortunate, but I think they were just unable to bounce back from the issues they encountered at launch. Maybe someday, hopefully.

Batty Roshko, I ended up buying mine after they recalled and refurbished them, still very cheap for the quality of the product. Fingers crossed nothing bad ever happens to it, because parts are more expensive now and few and far between. Thanks for the comment.

About a month ago you were still able to purchase one directly from the GoPro website. I believe they are now all "sold out." There are still replacement parts available for the drone that you can pick up, as well as the clamshell, and the gimbal top (included in the Karma Grip package.) Your best bet, if you're actively looking, would be to buy one used or refurbished. You'll get the most bang for your buck, w/ extra batteries, and possibly a camera included. Hope that helps.

I just tried fitting my new GoPro 8 and it doesn't fit the Karma. Why couldn't GoPro just prIoduce a new gimble to fit the newer cameras? Maybe they just want the whole drone glitch problem to go away but it's not a good example of product back up. Now I either have to buy an older model camera or sell the Karma and I'm not inclined to give GoPro more money.

Nick Ibis that’s a tuff one. While they recalled the original units because of them falling out of the air, knowing it was an issue is more than enough for myself to be constantly concerned about its reliability. Granted, I have never had an issue.... it is something I think about every time I fly. I know it was kind of a wishy-washy answer, but I hope it helps. 🤙🏻

Unfortunately not. The GoPro Karma Drone is no longer in production and to buy it now requires a little digging on the world wide web. You are easily able to find it on eBay and other third party sellers. Let me know if you have any issues finding them, and I can try to help be sending some links to ones for sale. Brian Trujillo totally understandable. I think there’s a place for many drones and companies. DJI owns the compact market, and that’s what made them such a contender in my mind. I also love to see companies like Skydio pushing the envelope in automated flight and obstacle avoidance. It’s good to support tons of different manufacturers. Appreciate the comment. 🤙🏻

Yea landing on a platform slightly bigger than the drone when you know you only have a minute left and it force lands. It is unfortunate that your not as good an operator as you clearly think you are.

It happens all the time. Each time I buy a new camera or lens, then I check for updates immediately. Firmware updates happen all the time as technology advances and whilst some piece of kit has been in a container on a ship coming from China, Taiwan, Japan, etc. there is a good chance that there will have been a firmware update to improve its performance. That's life!

Wrynie Cometa ...that’s a tuff one because of personal preference.... I like the DJI lineup because of how small and compact the products are for travel. Quality is superb, but you’re also paying a premium for it. The Karma Is no longer available unless you find it via third party dealers, so there’s no customer service or replacing it if anything happens. It’s also very large. I say do some research on the newer DJI compact products, you’d be happy with any of those. 👌🏻 thanks for the comment.

Yes, (technically) but stationary follow. The drone will now literally follow you. It could be better described as a "track me" mode. Hope that helps!

I have the drone and I never used it lol sitting there collecting dust. I am sure I have the one that needed to be recall becuase they fall down lol I have the mavic pro gen 1 but don’t use it much becuase the picture quality is shit in a bad way

lol. We literally have the same drones.... Mavic shoots a little too compressed but, the Karma paired with a Hero 7 is incredible... The flight is a little clunky IMHO and delayed, but its worth putting up.. you'll get some great pictures... Karma, (because it is no longer available) still retains value.... maybe look into selling it. DM on social if you wanna chat more... Thanks for the comment.

Tom DeCicco yeah man I have the black 5 camera I still use it a lot with the karma gimble I like it. I think the DJI mavic pro still a very professional drone at least for my level I shoot very small clips back in the days with it but that hobby didn’t take off well with me. I thinks drones are coming a long way I wish go pro had work harder and not gave up. Maybe they will make a come back

Serval Inc oh dude, same... my first karma video, I used the hero 5,... it’s trash... the handheld gimbal is one of the only redeeming qualities with the 5.... see if you can snag a 7 for cheap, it’ll change your whole thought about the drone... also, I d k if you subbed, but I’ll have a video coming out very soon, early 2020, showing off some gopro karma footage and how great it is compared to what else is out there

The Karma is a quality drone. For me, one of its only downfalls is its size. Other than that, paired with a GoPro 7, it’s amazing. DJI has burned me personally with customer service on more than one occasion. But in all fairness, gopro is such a large company too (at this point) its hard to get good customer service with them as well... I think the key is to have more companies producing quality drone products so they all have to compete for the consumers money & fly time. Thanks for your comment. 🤙🏻

harsha806, if the size of the drone isn’t a factor for you I’d go for it. It’s a great all inclusive option for flying and on the go recording.

GoPro fired their drone division so this is it from them. I’m getting a refurbished Karma when they’re back in stock for my Hero 7. My only worry is replacement batteries and no more updates

I love DJI and their drone products for sure. I use my Mavic Pro on all my pro shoots, for the simple reason of travel size and compactness. With that being said, i think it's time to not overlook other quality cameras (like the gopro 7) that we can send into the air. Thanks for your comment. Appreciate it.

People really haven't had problems with this piece of trash? Mine went belly up after maybe 8 flights in one year, during vacations. Apparently the connection between the gimbal and the drone is notorious for going bad. There's a reason Gopro doesn't sell this garbage anymore.
