I bought one in Jan 2021 and after 10 months the integral attachment head has come out of the end of the telescoping tube. I've just contacted GoPro for warranty coverage. Otherwise it's a pretty neat and well-packaged product. I use it with a GoPro 8 Black a 2-axis articulating attachment head I bought at the same time, and have so far shot about 20 episodes for my young channel with it. Previously I used a DLSR on a free 80's tripod. While the stick works well for selfie shots and the low-pov tripod uses, I have also found some annoying points. First, since I mainly film auto mechanic videos, I find myself setting the tripod up in engine bays quite often. The fact that the tripod locks in through a twisting motion means the angle of the camera relative to the tripod is also locked in; I am very limited in the angles I'm able to shoot when it's not set on a flat, even surface. Often the tripod legs will fall off a radiator support or valve cover if I aim it where I really want to. The other downside is that in contrast to loosening up, the telescoping part tends to get sticky for me and doesn't want to retract easily every time. It may have lost some lubrication from getting accidentally hit with brake cleaner or something, but I'm hesitant to apply additional lubricant, for fear of the locking mechanism failing. For $60 it's got a pretty nice fit and finish with a chunky grip. The material quality feels good and the weight is not bad for how many different functions it serves. I don't have any other GoPro compatible tripod options, so I set it on a step stool or cinder block if I need an eye level shot. I would prefer a manual lever for locking instead of the twist action*; this would allow me to compose shots more easily on uneven surfaces and not have to watch several hundred dollars tumble down the side of an engine block over and over. This would be a really good unit for someone filming in a cleaner or more controlled environment, but for a garage/auto shop environment I would prefer something a bit more beefy. *Admittedly this would probably be a difficult design requirement because the multiple telescoping sections would all likely need their own levers, significantly increasing overall height, weight, ease of telescoping, and cost. For me, it would be a worthwhile addition.

The fusion stick was one of my favourite because it was so versatile lightweight and the grip is huge which means when I’m wearing ski gloves and trying to hold onto it, it’s perfect. Now I have the insta360 one R with the one X selfie stick, aside from it being more difficult to extend, I’m also not sure how easy it will be to hold whilst skiing or doing other sports where you need a tight grip

Great review. This is the first stick I bought for my Max and I used it a LOT during a ski trip. At $49 it’s pricey but it was worth it, it’s better than I thought it would be. For snow skiing it turned out really great! The length was perfect for selfie skiing able to get all of me and my skis and the scenery in shot. The collapsed size of it was fine as my ski jacket has a large internal pocket I could just toss it into (Max still attached, Max-first into the pocket) then zip up the jacket. It’s very light which was perfect for this use. That width too whilst skiing is just perfect, and it was always reliable extending and packing down again. Highly recommend it, basically it’s better than it looks from pics and review videos etc, but yes look for the best price:)

Can it be used underwater? Is it waterproof?

I'm on my second one and it's shit. It worked for a while, but after using it in water/at the beach, the locking mechanism becomes all iffy. I took it apart, put it back together and it got "less unusable", but it's still shit. I read the manual and did a thorough search before using it water too, and nowhere did it say NOT to use in water. Quite the opposite, as the ad shows a guy jumping into water with it in hand.

This maxgrip is shit. Got stuck on the first day of skiing. Xiaomi monopod has been used 3m under water and on top of 3000+ m mountain and still working fine and this crap got useless on the very first day.
