It will have the longest main span of any cable-stayed bridge in North America at 2,799 ft. At a cost of around $5.7 billion. This will replace the aging Ambassador Bridge that was built in 1927 - 1929 and only cost $23.5 million.
The Ambassador Bridge has to be demolished within five years after the new span opens, according to the Canadian government's conditions for the new span. Over and over, Transport Minister Marc Garneau and the government's order-in-council call the new bridge a “replacement” span.Oct 15, 2017
