I think his interviews really explained well how he feels about his contestants and what role they play in the way he behaves around them. In Master Chef Junior, he wants to encourage young children to find their passion for cooking and carry it on. He doesn't yell at them or makes them feel like they're not made for the job because he WANTS them to be made for the job. In Master Chef, Gordon is more lenient on his contestants because most of them cook as a hobby, not as a job - but still expects them to know the basics. In Kitchen Nightmares, he talks sense into people who refuse who believe their restaurant isn't just haunted by the ghosts of bad economy, resulting in countless heated arguments because he wants the people that called HIM (not backwards) for help to understand why they fail. In Hell's Kitchen, Gordon expects his contestants to be his equals because they're trained chefs hired to run a real restaurant with real people. He's basically willing to risk the reputation of a restaurant location by letting the contestants join his team, so they have no excuse to fail - understandably, Gordon is really upset if said chefs are incompetent and making the line of work look like clown school.

I think the reason he's so mean to adults is because when they make mistakes it's usually because they're arrogant, but when children make mistakes it's usually a lot more innocent and genuine. Also, he generally amps up the meanness just for the American versions of his shows bc idk Americans like that shit or something. lol
@aaroncuanto34693 жыл бұрын
Oh 100%!! I'm a big fan of Gordon, and I have made this exact same argument to many people. When people talk about him being mean or being an asshole / rude. I always say - yea there is some of that, but it isn't so much that he's mean or rude, he is just VERY honest and direct. Which I think comes across as rude to a lot of people. It's a rare trait now a days. I think the best example is the original UK kitchen nightmares - when you go watch those, he is still the same pretty much, but usually when he freaks out, he is totally correct. Also definitely think the american versions of his shows, the producers probably told him to amp up his mean persona. I do think americans like that, it drums up ratings and headlines.
@problematicprincess62703 жыл бұрын
He isn't even a mean person he's a genuine person but he's a world class chef the difference between him with adults on hells kitchen is that their trying to get a job in HIS restaurant they have to keep up to his standards as a world famous chef and in his eyes if a fully trained chef wants to work for him they need to cook like they belong there with him and when your a chef you need to have self displine because of how fast pest and roudy it can get. He's kind to kids because he's a dad and his dad used to be disapproving of his dreams so most likely he sees some of his younger self/kids in them he can see their protenal as future chefs. People don't just invest in business if they don't see protenal in it. Its the same with the kids on the show..

The reason he’s nice with kids is because the kids are still learning, and they don’t say they know how to cook. The kids are there to learn and he’s willing to help them become the best they can. Also, the kids have a right to cry and be upset and moody. The reason he is considered “rude” to adults is because the adults pretend that they know how to cook, and the adults aren’t there to learn, the adults are there to compete.

For sure. Kids are willing to admit they mess up and are ashamed when they dont need to be. Adults have no shame and try and act like anything they make is fine to serve and need to be knocked down a level to learn what shame is. They have the ability to serve someone food that could kill them and are trusted to make food. Kids are just kids
@ModestM23 жыл бұрын
Even with adults. If he sees an adult trying, working to improve, and showing they give a shit, Gordon Ramsay is going to show them the respect he feels they deserve. When he feels like the cook is disrespecting the food, it's when he truly loses his shit.

Theres always whining about how terrible Ramsey is, but he's really not. He's actually a great guy, and a wonderful father, and he knows how fragile children's self esteem is. He's trying to encourage them to become wonderful chefs from a young age. But for adults, if they're not good at cooking from the start, they're most likely never gonna get good. Adults self esteem is strong. Getting screamed at won't hurt them like it could hurt children. They need more rough encouragement.
@kait4904 жыл бұрын
He understands that the kids are learning and they won't be perfect because they're kids. They have so much time to improve and giving them the good self esteem and motivation to continue cooking well is what will make them masters as they get older. He loses his patience with adults who call themselves chefs because they should know better than to make stupid mistakes and yelling is their motivation to get it together now.
