This video was taken in August 2023.
Genki receives food from a zoo keeper.
Then Gentaro came to try to steal the apples and sweet potatoes that Genki had.
Genki is nervous.
But Momotaro came back from outside, so Gentaro gave up and left.
Momotaro protected Genki from Gentaro by coincidence.

⭐️Momotaro ♂(2000/7/3)
Born in Ueno Zoo on July 3, 2000.
His father is Biju and his mother is Momoko.
His father died before he was born and he grew up never knowing his father.
He came to Kyoto City Zoo in 2010 and is now a father of two sons.
⭐️Genki ♀(1986/6/24)
Born on June 24, 1986 at the Kyoto City Zoo.
Her father is Mack and her mother is Hiromi.
When she was 10 years old, she went to Ueno Zoo for breeding purposes.
But she had a bad relationship with another female gorilla, and she injured her fingers and toes with her self-mutilation and lost a lot of weight.
When she returned to her hometown of Kyoto City Zoo, she was fine, and she lived with various male gorillas.
Then she met Momotaro and she gave birth to two lovely sons whom she lovingly raised.
Genki has a cute face with shining eyes.
⭐️Gentaro ♂(2011/12/21))
Gentaro was born at the Kyoto City zoo on Dec.21,2011,as Momotaro and Genki's first son.
Unfortunately Genki didn't have enough milk,so he was nursed by keepers for his first 10.5 months.
Now he loves his mom,and his face really looks like her.
He also loves people .
He is very close with his younger brother Kintaro and they play together almost every day.
⭐️Kintaro ♂(2018/12/19)
Kintaro was born at Kyoto City Zoo on Dec.19,2018.
He has big bright eyes and long eyebrows.
He is growing fine ,being loved by his parents and brother.

Genki has to deal with all those males. But she's tough. I like she gets special treats😊. She is the cutest most endearing gorilla to me. She thinks and feels deeply. I hope Genki always has happy endings for the rest of her days.

群れの中の順位が確実に自分が上だと分かっているゲンタロウは、モモタロウがいないとゲンキに対して当たりが強くなってますよね。ゲンタロウが順調に成長している証なのですが、最近はゲンキとゲンタロウが近づくとハラハラしてしまいます😅 唯一自分の優位性をアピール出来るのがゲンキなのでしょうね。シルバーバックは群れの均衡を保つ役割もあるんだなぁと、改めてシルバーバックの存在意義というものを感じています🦍

私も同じこと思ってました！😁 モモタロウがいない時、ゲンタロウのゲンキに対する当たりが強くなるなぁと💦 モモタロウがいない時のゲンタロウは、｢俺が今1位だぜ！！！💪｣って感じなのでしょうかね😅笑キンタロウに当たるとモモタロウに怒られるし、ゲンキしか当たる人がいないんでしょうね💦 着実に成長しているゲンタロウ。どんなシルバーバックになっていくのか楽しみです😊 でもあんまり母ちゃんを困らせないでね～🙏💦

I get nervous too. Poor Genki pooped herself from Gentaro. Might be best if she stays close to Momo. Like how Toto stays close to Haoko for “protection” when the kids get wild. When Momo walked in Gentaro backed off. Poor Genki…she loves them all so much. I have to remember they aren’t people and I’m no gorilla expert.

She was seen pooping while eating before when neither Gentaro nor Momotaro were in the picture. It is just her natural eating habit. She's just unable to pause to do anything else apart from eating especially when good sugary food is involved.

Gentaro reta a su padre, pero está frustrado porque es consciente que todavía le queda mucho para llegar a su ALTURA. Momotaro ya era padre siendo un poco mayor que él, pero también es cierto que Momotaro creció sin padre, y maduró precozmente.

Would be great if this enclosure could be modelled on the Haoko troup one (Ueno )..but on a smaller scale as the space just isn't available.

Would be great if zoos like this one would just stop housing great apes if they can’t provide a proper enclosure. Hopefully this is the last gorilla troop at their zoo, their environment is simply pitiful

I know most female gorillas do this but only under stress,it is sad to see Genki trying to rush to eat her apple and poo herself at the same time because she knows she is going to get attacked,it is happening all the time now and it's so wrong to allow this,she is slowly eroding away through fear and neglect.The enclosure is way too small she has nowhere to go to get away,she is always cornered and no one does anything for her.I am disgusted how this zoo runs and how they try to make it all seem above board and it's all fun and games to the public,but this is not normal behaviour when it's happening daily and they haven't bothered to fix Genki properly with her issues,your answer is to keep giving her meds to mask the problem,just hopeless.

The problem is that genki is mentally handicapped. She should have never been put in a group and forced to breed. She should be in a exhibit by herself where she can eat and live without the stress of being in a group. She can't mentally handle being in a group. And it isn't right for momo to be stuck in this situation either. This was a terrible match from the beginning. And just like now, with her health, she should be on birth control. But this zoo doesn't care about their well being, they just want her to breed. It is sad.

This entire situation is sad. I rarely watch them anymore, they were my first and favorite troop, my heart hurts for them and I feel so helpless that I can barely stand seeing it anymore.😢 Japan is such a high tech wealthy country, they have the means for all of their zoo's to be great.😢

Most of their problems are caused by the zoo, they wouldn't have these problems in the wild. 1, in the wild they would all be eating the same thing, nobody would be getting special treatment over the other's. 2 in the wild, gentaro would likely be gone by now to start his own life. 3 the tight space wouldn't be a issue. Unfortunately genki will poop herself if someone sneezes, she has always been that way. It's just part of her mental illness. But you are right, they should have addressed her dental issues promptly, not just giving her antibiotics until it goes away. They should have known that all of the sugary foods that they have been given her in her special diet would make it come back. The zoo has said they are hoping for another baby. Which is just sad. And it shows that they do not take the health of these animals seriously. This is the reason why most countries won't send animals to Japan.

@bigboytoyz541 Exactly, that is why they are all related except for Gentaro and Annie. Other zoo's will not send their gorillas to a place that is a major downgrade from where they are from. So either Japan needs to send their gorillas away for a better life and to mate or change their paltry excuse of their zoo's ,and do an extreme makeover ASAP!.

This zoo is ridiculous. How can you keep giving one of them special treatment and expect the rest of them to be ok with it. Sooner or later it is going to cause a fight. And why is genki still getting special food. Her weight is back up and she is eating nonstop. I swear this place treats the silverback like crap. Their whole focus is on a old crazy female, because she belongs to this zoo. I feel bad for the rest of them, that have to sit there and watch her eat all these delicious foods that they can't have every day.

she had teeth/gum infection and huge abscess on her cheek due to it,so i believe they are feeding her specifically because of the pain shes in and medications shes on. and due to her eating certain foods because of it. if they didnt feed her the other family memebers would just bully her for the food like they normally do. how long have you been following this troop ? have you seen the birthday treats each one gets? have you seen momotaro (father silverback) getting his special treats first in all of his medical check ups? he always gets the first dibs to every meal outside and inside,ice treats etc..watch more videos to see their normal pecking order when eating. or how about when gentaro or kintaro ( the 2 sons) get their treats they are separated. we only get snippets into these creatures lives with limited videos mostly out of context.

So glad there is someone else who sees things the way I do. It is ridiculous the way they handle these gorillas. Here the silverback is nothing. No other zoo operates this way. If Momo was faster on the uptake , he would have seen this by now. Lucky Kyoto for “owning” Genki. But, even she is not being given the correct medical treatment.

@@rtasi2000 that would make sense if she wasn't eating, but she is eating constantly. Giving her extra surgery fruits isn't going to help with a abscess. And she may get bullied time to time by gentaro, but we all know that she eats twice as much as the rest of them. And yes, they all get treats when doing health checks. Im not talking about that. They have always given her extra treats and extra food. This zoo caters to genki, and they always have. But it will still cause a fight, and it still isn't fair for the rest of them to have to sit there and watch her eat all these delicious foods in front of them. The abscess has never bothered her when it comes to eating, she could be missing half of her jaw and she would still eat nonstop. Just give them all good food and there wouldn't be any problem.

@@theresapennetti3986 exactly. I have always been fascinated with the silverback, since I was a kid. Most zoo's pride themselves on the silverbacks that they have. This zoo seems to be the opposite. They focus on the female and treat the silverback like crap. They do things behind his back constantly. I wish momo could be in a better zoo.

She got her weight back up, the infection went down and for a full week they kept feeding her the sugary fruits and every day I questioned it and then predicted that it would come back and as of yesterday her face is swollen again. I don't think this zoo staff knows anything about dental health or sugar levels or maybe they just don't care. It's frustrating to watch though.
