Playing or not, Kiyo is really testing his boundaries with Shabani. Shabani is soft on him for doing so, though. Shabani's weakness is Kiyo and Annie, just like any typical Dad.

My theory is that this is part of Kiyo's education. As a silverback, Shabani has to teach Kiyomasa how to be a dominant male in order to pass along his genes. If Shabani runs away when Kiyo displays, it's showing the effectiveness of Kiyo's bluster and aggression. Kind of like a gorilla father saying "Yeah, just like that, that's how you act when you're in charge!" I'm not saying they're consciously thinking that, of course, but it may well be developed behaviors leading to that learning opportunity. I have no doubt that Shabani will put the hammer down when it becomes necessary, as we saw a few days ago.

@@pamcunningham9608 I did not see that episode. Your theory would be ideal except I don't believe Gorilla's have that complex type of though process. I believe they rely on instinct but can have certain levels of affection towards members of their troop. Then again, I'm just an observer by no means an expert on great apes behaviors.

@@Jadeisacolortoo Hi Jade, I completely agree that they wouldn't be actively thinking about it in that way! This seems to be more play behaviors, but blackbacks do need to learn how to be "big and bad" to be successful, so it may be part of the play process. Play is an important learning and teaching tool for young mammals in general. I'm not an expert either, just an amateur enthusiast, but someday I hope to be able to speak with an ape behaviorist at length about these kinds of things!

He is being very kind really. But is in a bad situation - the whole troop avoids him if he dares wallop him! Dear little Annie, especially when she is trying to get maternal love from the decidedly glacial Ai. And NeNe; overseeing her matriarchal mischief making! How utterly interesting this little family is.

It's all fun and games...until Shabani decides it's not! Looks like Kiyo is already getting some silver on his thighs and butt, it will be very interesting to watch this family over the next few months.

Мне очень интересно. Кто-то может объяснить своеобразные движения руками и головой у этого семейства. Такое впечатление, что они следуют своему ритуалу. Только они так трясут головой и делают такие движения руками. И делает вся семья.

I'm very curious to hear about that too from somebody that's familiar with these guerrillas closely I would assume that it's most likely because it happened a few bunnies for some reason may be signaling his emotions happiness and maybe just being a little goofy and it seems like because he's the leader are all doing what he does to be like him

@@camouflagekumquat3412 тогда почему Haoko, с которым они вместе выросли, не делает такие движения. Как правило, дети подражают своим родителям. Но Haoko совершенно отличается от Shabany по взглядам на отношения в семье, там нет никакой демократии и никто не пытается разрушить власть отца.

He's got a few years before that happens. He's only 11. That would happen more around 13-16 yo.

If it was Momotaro and Gentaro I'd agree, as they are already constantly at odds because Momotaro is serious and stoic 24/7...but Shabani plays with Kiyomasa whenever he wants, their relationship is amazing. Even now at the end of 2023 they are playing.
