Today’s special guest is CHAI. They’re four girls from Nagoya and I adore their sounds, their style and also their message. We did a collab for a song named MLS on Song Machine so please have a listen. Before chatting with CHAI, I’m going to play a song from one of the friends of Gorillaz, Popcaan. 



This song was from Fatoumata Diawara, she is like the soothing breeze from mountains. We went to Lake Como in Italy to shoot the clip for Désolé, and that was truly a pleasant day! The sky was a bit cloudy, but monsters didn’t get too near.

Mana: for me it smells like fabric softeners. 
Kana: for me it’s flowers!
Noodle: oh, do you use fabric softener often then?
Mana: yeah, kinda often.
Noodle: hmm...and what colours for flowers?
Kana: Orange, blue, pink...colorful ones!

Noodle: the next one is for you, Mana. “If your music is a sculpture, what would it look like?”
Mana: there would be a lot of bumps...it’d be really bumpy I guess. 
Noodle: would they be big or small?
Mana: both big bumps and small bumps. 

Noodle: okay, the next one is for Kana. “What is necessary to have a quality sleep?”
Kana: Doing yoga. 
Noodle: what’s your favorite pose from yoga?
Kana: actually I just started doing it so I can’t do any poses...(laugh) I’m doing what they recommend for beginners. 
Noodle: I see. 
Kana: (laugh)

Noodle: ok, this will be the last question for both of you...“If you can become a bird, what kind of bird you want to be?”
Kana: I wanna be a big one!
Mana: I want to be a big bird as well. 
Noodle: huh, why a big one?

This is Noodle from Gorillaz, at Kong Studio in London! That was Boss from Little Simz. She’s a real boss indeed! We made a fun song named Garage Palace together so if you haven’t heard it yet, please check out the video. I recommend it especially for those who loves 80’s arcade games. 


This was a remix of Clint Eastwood from Ed Case and Sweetie Irie. This club remix got very popular in London at that moment, but I was a minor back then so I couldn’t go to clubs! Now I think of it, it feels like it was in a completely different world. So many things have changed, but I’m grateful that Gorillaz can still be here. 

2D: Noodle, do you want a cup of tea?

This is how I will learn Japanese. I love how she talks in almost all Japanese it sticks to her character 🥰

Some people seems to have issue with this broadcasting format and I think I should be giving some clarification here. I'm aware Noodle's voice actress, Haruka Abe, is able to speak fluent English, being a Japanese-born British actress who have starred in numerous movie and TV/web series roles. But you gotta consider the guest she's talking to: a Japanese J-pop band based in Nagoya, a city with strong cultural heritage that's still being preserved today, particularly its distinct Japanese dialect in this case. I can assure you guys they're simply unable to speak English well due to their strong cultural root and given Haruka's Japanese origin and Japanese being her first language, it's simply more ethical to bring the whole discussion in their home language. Also, please remember this whole broadcast was originally streamed on Apple Music and there's chance they could've had provided subtitles there considering the fact that this is also promoted for non-Japanese listeners, so I think you should consider to check it out instead.

I can understand some of what she was saying like the trains passing by on the rooftop garden or her commenting on how foolish Murdoc can be. Guess these Japanese lessons are paying off. I’m curious about what Murdoc’s episode will be like including the guest. Hope we get something soon.
