I was a little under the weather recording this, so please excuse my voice. In this video, I examine whether trophies are getting easier as time goes on, and what the potential ramifications of this would be.

As you probably would've guessed, this video really resonated with me. I love trophy hunting. I don't want to break my soul every time I play a game due to one or two trophies on the list that require a certain skill level and/or lots of grinding, so I find that most trophy lists today appeal to trophy hunters like me who want to obtain a shiny new platinum and feel that sense of satisfaction once I get there. However, I totally understand the other side of the argument where you do have, for example, difficulty-related trophies which "separate the men from the boys" when it comes to obtaining the platinum. To some, a platinum is something you REALLY earn and, in doing so, you get that kudos and respect from the community for your efforts. I feel that there should be a healthy balance when it comes to trophies and, in order to appeal to a wider audience, devs should probably consider doing additonal trophies (outside the base game trophy sets) to include NG+ and difficulty-related achievements. This way, it won't lock people out of achieving the platinum but to get the 100% completion in the game will be the challenge.

Definitely interesting ideas here for sure! I agree that variety is the spice of life, and trophy hunting is no different, for me. Like I said in the video, I enjoy the "more options approach". And while it might be cool if every game had trophy types catering to every gamer, I don't think that's feasible (or, for me, even desirable). I'm totally fine with games being super easy, even to the point of shovelware, *because* harder games still exist! The full spectrum of difficulty is represented in trophy hunting, simply because we have such a massive quantity of games being released. There are plenty of developers who want trophies to be an extra form of challenge, and there's plenty who prefer them to be a gentler challenge, that seem to incentivize just completing the game! And given that most folks who buy a game never finish it, I think it's fully appropriate for a dev to use trophies as a tool to pull players along!

I honestly think older games are way harder in my opinion I’ve gotten 5 old platinums and they were very hard like right now I’m trying to get crypt of the necrodancer I am 73% in but I honestly agree that trophy’s are getting easier!!

Yeah, I mean there's plenty of older games that are pretty easy, and there's still newer games that are super challenging themselves, but I think generally speaking, trophies are easier on average these days, especially in AAA titles

I really do not mind because the "hard trophies" are really just mind numbing and painful to do that i really don't feel like doing something that because its supposed to be entertainment i want a geniune challenge that pushes me in a provactive way not just making me grind collectibles or replay the whole game because of a choice i made 14 hours in so there's a difference between actual challenge and boring monotony

Yeah, I don't really mean difficulty in a tedious sense, like the Dark Souls 3 example I gave in the video. I mean more like Meat Boy, or Crypt of the Necrodancer, things that are hard to do because of the skill they require

Try FNAF 2 10/20 mode, crpyt of the necrodancer platinum, FNAF pizzeria, black ops 3, gta 4, prototype, bleed 1 and 2, ESO emperor trophy, crash 4, street fighter 5, ufc 4 without boosting, solo tag, blood of the dead, and voyage of despair easter egg, and doom 2 and doom 1993 co op nighmare difficulty solo so play on split screen set the other controller to the side with no one playing it and play the difficulty by yourself with the newest update all enemies are way faster and respawn faster making soloing those 2 games a 10/10.

I've been streaming on Twitch forever, and I like the direction their monetization is heading! I'm also partnered there. But they've recently changed their rules so I could technically stream to both at the same time, I've been looking into setting something like that up

Yes, AAA plats are way to easy. This is so annoying bc u getting fast the plat and after that u dont play that much OR its just boring bc its to long. I miss speedrun, hard and other trophied which are challenging BUT not useless collectibles 💀

Those types of games are definitely out there! Look for some indies, games like Neon White are fun to play and have pretty challenging trophy lists
