If you really want to be Challenged Intellectually, I highly recommend watching Pauline Paradox by 119 Ministries & the Deuteronomy 13 Test. I was in church for over 30 years and it really opened up my awareness to ways I previously understood the Bible in a slightly twisted contradictory way.

Good to see this much neglected topic discussed. Somewhat tamely. Jesus had no problem attracting men as followers, so we have a problem in view. Here's my top suggestion: stop propagating a view that says 'man, get in a building every Sunday and sing songs and hear a talk, for this is following Christ!' It ain't. If 'outside' was good enough for the early church, well then.... Second - affinity groups. All the best to all.
@patricklee8088
@patricklee8088 4 ай бұрын
@@mozdicksonExcept the outside wasn't where the early church did its worship. Early Christians went to "a building every Sunday and sing songs and hear a talk." They worshipped in synagogues and houses that were transformed into a place a of worship (ie not someone's living room). Corporate worship in a physical structure goes all the way back to the tabernacle in the OT. And yes, "singing songs" is part of that corporate worship. And yes, sermons or homilies were given as well.

Do y'all have an idea on how to attract young men in an on-campus ministry at a college? We are at a university that is 3:2 female to male, and have an even more drastic ratio in our church. Any recommendations would be really helpful, thanks!!!

Do you want to attact Christians or non-Christians? If non-Christians: debates, street evangelism (not direct John 3:16, but confront common ideas with (Biblical) common sense, like Louder with Crowder 'prove me wrong' stands), development weekends: hiking, hunting, camping, repairing poor people's homes...with time to talk. If Christian, see above, but add small groups for Bible reading and pointed discussion. These are college kids: put the bar high. get a reading list together of classics, and expect the Bible to be read through annually. CS Lewis, Schaeffer...all still relevant.

Why are Calvinists talking about how churches can attract men? Doesn't your theology hold that people only do what God decrees them to do? God will either decree someone to go to your church or God won't, what does "attracting" have to do with it?

I thought discipleship was spreading the word of the gospel. The good news. I didn’t hear any of this in the video, I really heard just becoming good role models and becoming part of up coming church program for church growth. Isn’t the church the body of Christ? and not so much the building and four walls in which we gather.
@risingdawn5788
@risingdawn5788 5 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for this video, but to my understanding discipleship encompasses much more than spreading the words of the Gospel. That's because discipleship involves believers' growth in the faith by following the Lord Jesus Christ more and more, which is accomplished by observing and learning to do all that is commanded in the word of God, by His grace in Christ.

Evangelism is spreading the Gospel. Discipleship is doing what Jesus did with the twelve... Live life together, teaching them how to live as true followers of Christ, as men who are above reproach, who fear and love God, who can then repeat the process. Jesus loved these men and reinforced "others centered" agape love for them to comprehend and also to live out. Discipleship is so much more than academic or formal teaching. This is why Jesus says in John 13:35 (ESV) "By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another"

Church can't help any man who didn't have a Father who was teaching manhood to his son. A man needs his self to be established in many ways that if development is not there at the stage or age when said development is needed, it is lost and most of whatever development does happen, in this modern world, will be feminine. The only thing the church says to males is pretty much just servant leadership roles. Everything is your fault and you have to figure out what needs fixing by using interpersonal skills, or skills to merely influence your wife or children instead of just being a Man. The Church of today is, if i may use an old term, is shall i say "queer" in its application of the bible to what a real man is.

@@jackwilley9847 Even if no "foolishness intended", your comments still comes across as foolish - childish even. What's the point of your comment? You either come across as prideful or you're just admitting that you aren't a real man because you don't know what a real man is... You said things like "instead of just being a man" and "what a real man is" and I was just asking for clarity to understand your point of view. Anyone can say that the church is not teaching men to "to just be a man", and that the church isn't biblical in their application of "what a real man is". Anyone can make a claim/complaint, but so what? It doesn't matter unless you show a better way, because then you're just complaining and tearing down. You have nothing but complaints regarding the church of today, but you don't even bother to start a conversation about the solution, or what your "ideal" looks like. That's a little childish don't you think? Consider this hypothetical conversation: "This and that is wrong." "Okay, so what do you think is right?" "Only someone who is right knows what is right." -- See my point? I don't disagree with much of what you said in your original comment though, but your comments (although not insulting nor disrespectful) are childish in argument. If you think I'm wrong please let me know. I will happily admit I was wrong if you give me good reason to do so, but for now your comments have achieved nothing 🤷‍♂
