Great review! Based on your recommendations in the past I’ve bought the Snail UKS 2-20 which continues to be great, the Flight which lives in my campervan and is brilliant and now this. I’ve been on the lookout for a concert with a pickup for a while. I’m a primary teacher and teach uke to my class. This’ll be seeing plenty of use. Thanks again!

I took a chance on a soprano after your review of the baritone, strange logic I know, I was very pleased with the result. I thought the setup at the nut was a little high but I sorted it out. After your review of the concert, I'm thinking of getting a tenor. There goes that logic again...

Thanks for the review. One is on the way from the UK. Been looking for plastic back with real wood fingerboard. I have the Flight Travel but hate the fingerboard because my fingers keep slipping off the molded frets (they don't extend to the edge). So, I ordered the Clearwater based upon your fine review. Oughta feel good on a bare belly playing at the beach.

I have not being playing the ukulele very long i have a concert, what advantages does a tenor have if any
@GotAUkulele
@GotAUkulele 5 жыл бұрын
Blazeroe no advantages, just a slightly different sound. Same tuning, but bigger body means that, with a like for like build, the tenor has more resonance and a bit more dynamic range. It makes it sound fuller. Not necessarily louder just a bit more going on. No one uke scale is better than any other.

Great review--thanks! Just in case anyone in the States would check: Really Useful Music Co. won't deliver to the U.S. But they do carry a number of Clearwater uke's. Gonna go 'ave a look at your baritone review, cuz that one is kinda unique looking. ^^

I would like to think that if enough US buyers contacted them and agreed to cover shipping, RUMC would be crazy to not try to get them over to the US.

I've had one of these for long enough to see the top darken (the way spruce does apparently). It's been in saddlebags and rucksacks and in and out the back of the car. The soundboard is still totally flat and it sounds even better than when first bought it. The pickup on mine was one of those wee discs mounted on the underside of the soundboard. There's no chance of me ever appearing on a stage and suspecting that the disc might be robbing a wee bit of acoustic tone I removed it (hairdryer and butter knife). Hey presto, a noticeable improvement in an already good sound.

We all you a big thanks for those no nonsense reviews. The use of the same loops that contain simple loops and no 'dusty end of the neck' shennanigans is invaluable. Our significant others might not be so grateful for you contributing to our UAS right enough. Mine doesn't have a clue who I'm talking about when tell her to blame Barry.
@GotAUkulele
@GotAUkulele 5 жыл бұрын
Kenny Wilson those tunes are deliberate. Pro players will know from a simple open strum if the uke sounds good or not. But your average player doesn’t really want to see something complex, rather something they can play at home with little effort. That’s the theory anyways!

@@GotAUkulele btw what are the little licks you play in your reviews?
@GotAUkulele
@GotAUkulele 4 жыл бұрын
To be honest, when I get electro acoustics I rarely feature the pickup. Simply because it’s hard to do it impartially. Depends on the amp you’ve got and of course I am only then recording an amp. I despise guitar reviews where it’s clear they have them recorded through a $2000 boutique amp that virtually nobody has at home!

Nice review. It's going on my list! Would be interested to know how it would sound amped up?
@GotAUkulele
@GotAUkulele 5 жыл бұрын
As it says in the written review - it sounds great. I tend not to record electrics unless i have to as I am only recording an amp with a microphone, so depends on the amp and mic. But as good as any other piezo and unlike those with bags of unnecessary wiring and controls - a clean sound that is easily tweaked on EQ.

Hi Baz. Quite likely a dumb question incoming. With ukes like these, which have a strap button on the body but nowhere else, how is a strap typically attached? I'm tempted to add a strap button on the heel of the neck like a guitar would have, but since there's not one there already I suspect that is not normal practice. Many thanks in anticipation.
@GotAUkulele
@GotAUkulele 2 жыл бұрын
You can either screw a button on the neck heel (very normal practice - works just fine), or tie the other end to the headstock above the nut with a bootlace
@hazelisaacs2201
@hazelisaacs2201 7 ай бұрын
I have this particular Clearwater roundback uke in tenor size for around 5 years and tie a shoelace / loop around the headstock just behind the nut under the strings to join the strap. They really are excellent value instruments with solid top sound quality and lots of sustain and projection (gigging in a band the pickup is useful too for bigger venues / outdoors) mine gets a lot of use gigging and rehearsing. The top shows signs of plectrum wear now but if I ever replace I'll be looking for the same make. Enjoy your music!

Hi Barry, Thanks again for the excellent review, I was considering electrifying an older Uke of mine a while ago but the Piezo pickup was too expensive, how can they afford to put one in an eighty pound uke? was I looking in the wrong place? cheers for now, have a good weekend.
@GotAUkulele
@GotAUkulele 5 жыл бұрын
Keith Hicks because good quality passive pickups are really not expensive if they are unbranded. They need a bit of EQ off the uke and a decent amp - so I guess you spend more in those departments. I use an Artec strip in one of mine / cost about 10 quid and a bit more for the jack plug. Properly EQ’d it sounds better than any of the pre fitted ones on cheaper ukes that come with batteries and controls do

FWIW, the folks at Flea will say their instruments are assembled by hand and their customer service is unparalleled. I'm glad to see alternatives like this one out there. One of the regulars at our local jam is a music teacher and she has the Ohana-branded concert. Loves it.
