I’ve just bought one of these as my first ukulele, it was reduced to £20. Personally even though i am obviously no expert it does the job and the sound isn’t awful, though you make a good point

I have one and It sound loud other than colored mahalos, you should try also the vibrato effect when you put it on/off your body while playing.

Yeah, well on a work trip to Budapest, I picked up one of these in an instrument store, just to have something to do in the hotel room. It cost me about 25 GBP now, in April 2018. You are right about everything in this review. Anyway, I like this uke...it's a total cheapo with some charm..I'll keep it as a take anywhere beater.

Another great review and demo. The new Mahalo MJ1TBR Soprano Ukulele looks interesting at around £35 and therefore still an entry-level instrument. Main specs are significantly up on the 2500 and include Aquila Super Nylgut strings - Indonesian Rosewood fretboard and bridge - Mahogany neck - Open geared tuners - NuBone saddle and comes with a lightly padded gig bag. Obviously not an instrument for experienced players but it's apparently rated by a lot of teachers, many of whom recommend it for folks starting out with a uke.

Can you do a review of the Mahalo MR1 series? It's the redesigned Mahalo "bright colored" uke, it comes with Aquila strings and allegedly better construction and quality control. Thanks.

I have this ukulele and you were totally right- I changed those strings to Aquila strings and it sound sooooo much better, it literally lights up the instrument and the volume improved alot too :)

I must ask about something. I have a Mahalo. Their so called "De lux" model. Up to now I still don't know what is "lux" about the ukulele. They say it's made of koa, but I doubt that. However; the soundhole is very small. 41 mm to be exact. I recon that must be bad for the wolume? It is a very quiet instrument. All my other ukes have a significant larger soundhole, and better volume. Thanks for a well done review!

I bought one from Rome, in a small music shop. It has Aquila strings and it sounds very nice! It even has a proper sustain ☺️ And is red ♥️

I thought the brightly colored ones are more expensive than this kahiko series... I was practicing with a $5 uke for months, so I think this kahiko series is far better
