Thank you for this video. I went into my journey expecting to have thick locs but knowing my hair was naturally fine. I figured that the accumulation of shed hair might help but that only did so much. My locs are still relatively thinner considering I only have 66 locs. They are about the size of a pencil. I've been watching so many videos on how to get thicker locs and honestly it comes down to genetics. A lot of people with thicker hair and locs do sell stories of how to get thicker locs but their hair is just naturally thick. I did everything they said to do. I stretched my retwist to 3 months, used wild growth oil, jamaican black castor oil and no other products. Massaged my scalp daily and never styled yet my hair remained pretty thin looking. Especially as I am a year loc'd I find that the locs actually got more compact and thinner as they matured. They looked thicker at 6 months than they do now. My point is if you have fine hair you will have fine locs. If you have thick hair you will have thick locs. The parting, products and maintenance only helps so much. Just accept it and love your locs the way they are.

Leah W I agree! I don't have thin or fine hair but my mum has thick hair like me and she has MANY love (idk I haven't counted) and they're thick like between pinky and thumb diameter I also see ppl ith thinner loc

Though fine hair means each individual strand of hair is very thin, regardless of density Thin/low density means you douhave many hairs on your head, regardless of the width of those strands

My locs, while they are thinner than I'd like, is still thicker than my loose natural or relaxed hair ever could have been. I always think about that when I get in my feelings about the thickness of my locs lol

Nooooo!!! My issue is my hair was thicker prior to the retwist. The loctician I went to palm rolled the entire twist and it looks so horrible. I really only want the roots twisted and then smooth the rest a little if that makes sense? I feel like I need to start over and do mini locks so that it appears fuller? I don't know but I'm not happy. My hair is thick when curly but thin when flat ironed. I just feel so damn discouraged because I loved my locks before she touched them and now I don't recognize them.

I decided to try for thick locs even after seeing this video. I started out with the instant loc method. I ended up with only 19 finger-sized locs. I have freeformed since then and my locs ended up thicker than the ends (instant loced part). My hair doesn't look sparse at all which was my initial fear. It looks normal and I am happy with the results. It is possible to go big. ☺️

We share similar hairtype queen I've had 4 sets of locs 1st were plats 2nd was single twist 3rd 2 strand twist n the current set are freeformed. #freeformiskey the only method that gave me thick locs 3rd yr in and I have some locs that are 3-4 inches thick. Its not for everyone but its the look I always desired from the start wish I knew that on my 1st set I would be 20 yrs in by now. 3yrs freeformed n love every step of growth in my mind n hair ✌💪💛👑 hope all my fine hair family gets the locs they're seeking

Thank you so much. My hair is super fine, extra soft and curls at the slightest bit of moisture. The first time I tried locs. I did 2 strand twists which literally unraveled the very next day lol. This time I did tiny braidlocs. Well it's been a month and they are still in and I love them so far. I want to try twisting them at the roots instead of interlocking my new growth

Wow, this need to be pointed out. Makes so much sense. I have low density, have DIY microlocs, and I guess I won't combine hoping for thick locs. And just work it how it is. Thanks for this!

Don’t combine. I made that mistake. I have DIY micro locs. So I redid my locs over and put them back the way they were in the beginning, and I am 3 months in and they are doing fine. I just needed to leave them alone. My hair is fine 3b/c top and sides, 4a in the back and it’s low porosity. I’m loving the way my locs are blooming. I only use coconut oil and water. I put Aloe Vera gel on each one of my locs after I wash them. That works for me. It has thickened a little, but they are still small and looking good. Your locs will be beautiful!!!😉☺️

I also have very fine hair that's one of the reasons I love watching your video's. Other youtubers with thick locs sell false dreams (and snake oils). I believe the thickness of locs depends 80% on genetics 15% on nutrition and 5% the products you use. Don't get me started on these mixed race women selling black women with 5C hair false dreams talking about: tHiS wASh RoUtiNE wIL gRoW Ur HaIr.. it seems black women don't want to understand how genetics works...ugh anyway thank god for loc extensions. It can really help hide thin locs. The trick is not to overdo the loc to part ratio.

BEST VIDEO EVER! So touching, thanks sis. I am 57y/o woman with CHF. I was in the hospital last week (paramedics took me, my hair was a "nap ball"). Once I was admitted, I felt so insecure because....well, just because! I found a little jar of Vaseline in my purse and there was water on the bedside, It took me a couple of hours, but I was able to finger part my thin, fine hair, 2- strand twist my whole head. I fell asleep and my nurse woke me with the usual bs (there's never "rest" in the hospital..LOL), but she was captivated by what I did with my hair...I haven't taken them out since then (can these turn into locs?) Please, any one of the FAM can comment if you know....be safe and take care!

I’ve been thinking about going vegan. I have a hard time prioritizing fruits and veggies. It’s confusing bc keto is super popular and I know it makes u lose weight. I feel like my hair is suffering bc of improper diet.

What is your hair type? Im a 3b/4a blend. Im trying to figure out exactly what fine hair is.

My hair type is 3c/4a....but it’s not hair type that makes hair fine, it’s density and how thick your hair strands are. So, how many actual strands of hair are on your head and how thick are those strands?

@@AJAELOX ok. I understand now. I do have thick hair when it's in its natural form. But I feel it's thin when I used to do things like flat iron it. Right now I feel like when I wash my dreads (6months loc'd) and don't twist they look voluptuous but when I retwist I feel they lose their body. Trying to figure out if I had this fine hair u speak of. Thank you for responding.

This video old but is facts. I have fine hair now. When I locked my hair up I had about 130 dreads and they were full. I combined all them after they were already locked around year 5. Big mistake… they don’t get thicker like I thought they would and most them only locked at the root and not the ends so that’s that. Lastly the loc to part ratio was terrible and made styling hell.I have to say I got into a lot of fights so a few got pulled out. I ended up cutting them a year later. I had them from 2011-2017. When I cut my hair I noticed the areas where my dreads got pulled out at were thin. I truly think this is what caused me to now have finer hair. I now have braids that I’ve been growing for about two years and it’s long like frfr. Not sure how I feel about getting dreads again. Sorry for the long rant y’all. Good video btw everything was facts 💯

Do you think you thinned out your hair more and compromised the ability of you locs to expand as much as they would have because you used loc extensions?
@AJAELOX
@AJAELOX 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good question....i do think the loc extensions prevented my locs from expanding, however, i think they would have eventually condensed to this size regardless Bc i do have naturally fine hair (locs swell and then condense). I have a few baby locs that I installed after I cut the extensions off and they are currently condensing to the size of my mature locs

Go to Starbucks & get 2 shots of espresso in a venti cup of ice & pour the shake in there. I leaned this trick at weight watchers lolz it’s so good. Especially with the caramel flavor.
