I kind of like it, but wish it had a solid wood top. I do think it's a Revelator inspired joint. I agree that it's more a stage performer better suited to a full fledged pickup system . . . especially with the laminated top. Can't see myself playing it for pleasure around the house, but I appreciate the innovative effort and the attractive price tag.

I am hearing what you are hearing. That would drive me crazy. But at that price I can see how some could go for it.

Gotta say the macro photos really piqued my curiosity! It's a shame the tenor doesn't get the same options as the concert. Oddly, when I googled to find out more ahead of your video, the 6 string got stuck in my head. They really haven't interested me otherwise. Anyway, great review!👍👍

From here, it actually sounds pretty good - clear and crisp with moderate sustain....Kinda ugly looking though but at least you can store your lunch in the soundholes. Great, extensive review BTW.

For such an artistic sort of design, why a laminated top of all things laminated! I was really hipped for this one when i first saw a pic of it, but, other than looking very sturdy, durable and comfortable to play, it did not make an interesting impression! Take care baz, have a good sunday!

It looks pretty different, unique even but - for me - has a kind of paint by numbers look, where the colours dont quite match the numbers. 😬 I don't hate it, i just don't love it. Paulownia, you say? That's interesting, because that's the wood that is customarily used to make kotos in Japan. Do you think this has a koto-esque sound to it? With respect to the two sound ports, that's going to result in two superimposed sound waves, one delayed by about 15 cm at the speed of sound, or about 0.3 milliseconds. Over in sythesizer-land, we call that a comb filter and it's used as a flanger effect. Sometimes it's deliberately added, but it's often also regarded as a flaw.

Very interesting look for sure! The sound seems a little off somehow, but still seems a pretty good value for an instrument that doesn't look like everything else on the market. Great review, Baz!

I kinda like the turmeric-yellow look, but I don't understand the thick, klaxon ports around the sound holes. And with 4 strings, next they'll be claiming it's quadraphonic. Sounds OK via KZfaq, but try before you buy, of course. Keep drinking that tea with rum... and lemon!

Intriguing. It MIGHT be a uke for me - but not for the reasons you'd expect. Barry, I know I've asked about blocking sound holes before to get a silent ukulele and you gave a great answer to explain why this doesn't work (and it doesn't, I tried). If you block the sound holes on this is it silent? If it is, then it might replace my Snail solid body that i use for silent practice and this has a wider nut width.

I love the looks of this one, but I don't understand the laminate top. I'd like to hear it with a nice thin solid top. Just an idea of mine, but I'd like to see one with the finger board extending farther down the body without frets. Might be fun to play with. Might also try just stuffing something in the bottom sound hole and see how that sounds. Thanks for all you do.

Interesting review. Thank you. Definitely one to try before you buy! I wonder if the odd sound is due to the sound waves interfering with each other. Would blocking the lower sound port off with a hankie or some cotton wool stop the sound being odd? Anyway, enough pondering - hope you feel better soon!

Get out the drill, and put some holes in the middle of the top. Might balance out the sound a bit better. What's the worst that could happen? You could call it the tweeter to go with the stereo sound.

Due to the construction, it seems like it would be pretty durable but at the cost of having what seems to be a rather dry and compressed sound. Cool concept but I might have to pass on this one. Great review as always, Baz!

To me there's a noticeable improvement to the tone when you damp the strings so they don't ring out, so something about it is definitely peculiar. With all the notes ringing there's an almost painful, out of place quality to the sound. Needed a few more prototypes, I think.

Sounds good. Will have to try it in person. One commenter said "Enya like" (which to me is not great).

Hello.. I have to take issue with your comment that £180 purchase price is a "reasonable price" irrespective of the size...I've bought many soprano and concert ukuleles that have much better finishes and tones than this tenor ukulele at half the price, a quarter of the price and even an eighth of the price. I've bought a couple of really good koa ukuleles for a little less than this !

What made you decided to review the tenor instead of the concert since you mentioned the concert having some different options? Thanks for your great reviews!

It sounds chimey to me. Perhaps that’s the “Stereo” effect coming through 😂😂😂 You can’t complain about the price, but I think I’d have to see and hear it in person before I’d buy it. The sound and colour bug YOU, the funky knot at the tie bar is worrying me !!!

I think I can slightly hear what you observe. Definitely not for me. Shame, because that style would've gone well on stage for me.

Looks like a missed opportunity there Ibanez, I think by adding a strap button and a decent pickup it would have had more appeal as a gigging tool, not worth 180 odd quid if you look at what else is out there for that kinda bucks. No not for me either I'm afraid. Good review my friend.

The zingy wobble must be the "stereo effect" lol. It does sound strange though.

Built in reverb and chorus?

I tired one at NAMM. I didn't care for it. Even in the convention floor noise, I wasn't happy with the sound, but I did like the neck. Maybe I like a radiused neck. But in general, I didn't like the looks, it just seemed kind of unfinished. Thanks for your review. I do agree with your points on it.
