In simpler terms most of the kingdom hearts games are a slight Platformer hack and slash Adventure game with magic, amazing cutscenes, tons emotional weight for the story and there being no “side games” as they include into the overall story as the main numbered games are mostly about the Main Character Sora in his journey with the titles such as 358/2 days and birth by sleep being both introduction to new characters giving more insight to what they’ve been through due to the main villain and how they connect to Sora. The command menu of the main numbered games can be thought of as how arcade fighting games have to do different moves to do special attacks/magic if that helps with memorizing what you’re trying to reach without distracting your attention to it too often, like knowing how many times you have to press down on the directional buttons but on later titles there are shortcuts so you don’t need to worry much. It’s sincerely a fun game with tons of mini games in each. Would highly recommend streaming your first time playing the game.

This dearly beloved isn't from the original kingdom hearts this 1 is actually from kingdom hearts 2 the original 1 doesn't sounds like this don't get me wrong it's still gorgeous but the 2nd 1 gets you in the feels this 1 was made in 2005 the original 1 is from 2002

Every single Kingdom Hearts game has their own version of Dearly Beloved! They are all different while being the same. Which makes them similar to Final Fantasy's "Crystal prelude" each game has their own version of that song.

Fun fact: The game's composer, Yoko Shimomura, left Square Enix to become a freelance composer in 2002 and was considering full retirement after finding out she was pregnant a bit later. Fortunately, Square called her to continue working on Kingdom Hearts and she proceeded to work endlessly on the series, going as far as working on the music until about 20 hours before she gave birth. Twenty years later and she's now renowned as one of the best in the business and still works on the music for the series. To say she has a passion for the franchise would be the understatement of the century. With regard to Dearly Beloved, however, she came up with the song after getting her hands on an early build and playing the first world in the game, Destiny Islands. She was blown away by the seemingly endless expanse of the ocean and the melody popped up while she thought about the sea and its waves. The end result was one of two non-vocal songs that immediately pop into the average person's mind when they think "Kingdom Hearts" (The other song being Destati, the first track ever composed for the game)

I'd put The Other Promise as a third alongside this and Destati. The only thing holding it back is that it wasn't in KH1.

One thing that hits so hard with "Dearly Beloved" is it is the very first song you hear. Its like the "Prelude" from Final Fantasy. And yeah it's a Disney Game.....but Square made it. Its really Square's game's. I love all of the renditions of this song as they play at the beginning of every game. As a long time fan KH3's version brought me to tears.

My favorite OST from KH is "Vector to the Heavens (Xion)" from KH3 Remind. It's a highly emotional yet aggressive boss theme, with so many instrumental layers that play and fight with one another. That one's just a treat, especially for anyone that hasn't already heard it.

Hearing it through the tinny DS speakers for the first time back in the day, it is still one of the top boss theme's of all time. The way it ties in Xion's theme is just so beautifully done.

The Other Promise is my favorite OST from Kingdom Hearts, it is absolutely beautiful. As well there is combat music such as Rage Awakened that is legendary. Would absolutely recommend playing the games, it is my personal favorite game series ever.

I recommend the various versions of Dearly Beloved. The major games each have a different version of it, and they're almost like representations of the theme and mood of the games. To clarify: This song is not usually in-game. It's the main menu song. If you choose to just play immediately you will end up skipping this song. You should 1000% play this game immediately. Just start at KH1 and play in release order. Final Mix versions are just re-releases with extra content that was cut for time or never translated, so go for those on modern consoles OR PC EDIT: You MUST listen to Sora's Theme and Roxas's Theme. Two characters who share so many similarities, but are completely different at the same time. You'll have to listen to the Kingdom Hearts 2 ORIGINAL versions though, as KH1 does not have a version for those two. There were no character themes back then.

So Dearly Beloved is the theme in the sense it’s always the first song you hear, it’s the theme mainly for the main menu but also picks up in a few other places as well, like shows up in parts of other songs too. And don’t worry about feeing emotional over it, that’s how many times it’s happened to others too. (I found out about Nier a few months before Automata was announced because of the music. Grandma made me cry and Blu-bird made me head-bang, I had all the feels lol.) The simplest and basic spoiler-free summary for Kingdom Hearts is three friends believe that their island is a small world (star) in the sky and want to leave to see other worlds, their main proof is the only female, Kairi, who washed ashore one day randomly. They manage to leave the island but get caught up in a centuries long war over the good of light and bad of evil, with each of the three friends unknowingly becoming an important piece of each side. It’s very famous for having a LOT of lore (and also a lot hidden in reading and spanning like 9 games), so a lot of people joke the story can be hard or impossible to understand. But for dedicated fans of the series who dive into the lore it’s an emotional rollercoaster of friendship, betrayal, and how no one person is ever truly just good or evil. It’s a third-person action adventure game but has menus and things that work similar to Final Fantasy (attack, magic, summon, item). Nomura has created an incredible series where every time we figure something out he creates a twist no one expects, and Yoko Shimoura has created stunning soundtracks that have left a legacy. If you’re interested in Shimoura’s other soundtracks I’d definitely recommend some of her famous works like Parasite Eve (I’ve voted that a couple times in other comments lol), Final Fantasy XV, Mario + Luigi Superstar, and Rise of Mana. Also will forever request Nier songs, like A Beautiful Song, Grandma, Blu-bird or Weight of the World (End of YorHa edition).

Honestly, you should check out the different versions of Dearly Beloved! They’re all so unique and the diversity is quite impressive! I would love to see your reaction to more Kingdom Hearts OSTs! I would also recommend watching the openings and endings for Idolish7, an anime idol series!

This is the music that plays on the main screen before starting the game and there are over 15 versions of it covering all the games. For me the best version is the one from Birth by Sleep but I'm slightly biased as after watching a streamer play it has made me to go back and finish my save on the PS3. That version is much bigger with sounds like a full orchestra. Dearly Beloved was also one of the tracks played during the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. Another KH track you should definitely listen to is "Vector to the Heavens (Xion)"

What really drives home the depth of the story is that this song is the loading screen music for the games. It changes for each game slightly, but it's always Dearly Beloved. And yet the emotions from just this simple melody is conveyed perfectly

The story starts on Destiny Island, a place where Sora, the main playable character, wants to leave to set off on an adventure, but also the island is symbolic things he has lost and struggles to get back. So being an island, there is waves. 08:12 "When is this song played in the game?" It is menu music, but also occurs throughout the game. 08:21 "...this is supposed to be the number one, the song I should have reacted to first" No. Though Dearly Beloved is in almost every KH game, I believe you were correct to react to the openings first. 08:47 "I don't know what the whole story is" Super generic info: it is a good vs evil/light vs dark themed story. Boy & friends want to set off on an adventure and somehow gets involved it big events. Quite frankly due to the number of games and the complicated nature of the story, there is no simple explanation of the story. There are internet memes about KH players trying & failing to explain the story to non-KH players. One redit post claims the total cutscene time for the entire KH series is almost 54hrs (specifically 3239 mins) based on KZfaq video lengths for the cutscenes. Edit: fixed timestamp

What’s kind of awesome with this OST is that it appears in a somewhat remixed version in basically every kh game. People have preferences and favorites but the pieces are quite similar when you boil them down

Dearly Beloved hits on a whole new level in Birth By Sleep when you get to one of the final bosses and hear the theme "The Key." It's a short track, but the impact is deep.

Here's a list of songs from kingdom hearts songs I recommend with a bit of context without spoiling too much and video links at the bottom 1. "Don't Think Twice" from Kingdom Hearts 3 - The end credits theme from KH3 and the last Utada Hikaru song from kingdom hearts that you haven't heard yet (not sure I recommend watching the actual scene from the game because it has some spoilers) 2. "The Other Promise" from Kingdom Hearts 2 - Tragic boss fight theme from one of the best fights is the series 3. "Vector To The Heavens" from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days - Another tragic boss theme but this time from what is probably the most tragic game in the series 4. "Rage Awakened" from Kingdom Hearts 2 - Plays for one of the most difficult fights in the series and also plays for the final boss in another kingdom hearts game (the 2.5 ReMIX version has best quality) 5. A (LONG) list of some cool ones to check out if you're interested (You could literally pick any off the list at random): Dearly Beloved - Pretty much every version is brilliant and worth a listen (and bits of it are in SEVERAL songs throughout the series, it's amazing how it's integrated throughout the OST and series itself) Destati - My favorite version is probably 3rd inception which has all the different phase transitions (either that or End of the World) A Very Small Wish Hollow Bastion March Caprice - the end Credit theme from the first game Traverse Town Afternoon Streets Lazy Afternoon The Other Promise DARKNESS OF THE UNKNOWN (THE FULL VERSION) Cavern of Remembrance Dance of the Daring Keyblade Graveyard Rage Awakening Sacred Moon (probably the most obvious use of Dearly Beloved) Waltz of the Damned Forza Finale - BIG piece that combines all the previous main villain themes (which if you do ever listen to this should be heard after their pieces, L'Eminenza Oscura, L'Oscurità dell'Ignoto, Forze Dell'Oscurita, and L'Impeto Oscuro) Master of Masters Stranded Beyond Vector to the Heavens (which should be heard after "Musique pour la tristesse de Xion" since it's a companion piece) Nachtflügel Dark Impetus Dismiss (Terra-Xehanort) True Darkness And about 50 more but I'll leave it at that.

Yes the opening has waves, because the first place u see in the game is Destiny Islands, the MC's "home world" - this isn't spoiler!! I would Love to watch u experience KH as a series! Ooh and Final Fantasy!!! (another Square Enix game)

KH hits different. This is iconic and classic. if you do play the game be patient with it. It is silly but then builds emotion in a strange way and hits you hard.

This song is beautiful and has so much nostalgia for me. Every new KH game, I sit on the main menu and let whatever version of Dearly Beloved play until the end. I would love for you to check out Riku's theme or Aqua's theme next if you want to keep on the incredibly emotional songs track

This song will always bring me back to my childhood when I first discovered this game in 02. I dealt with a lot of bullying at school at the time and this game literally saved my life. It was my only solace when I'd come home and on the weekends

Honestly the themes for all the characters are very good. Roxas, Xion, Riku etc all have really good themes. It hits even harder when you understand their stories

It’s so amazing that someone unfamiliar with these games can feel the emotion,passion and love in these pieces There is absolutely no doubt that the people involved with creating Kingdoms Hearts LOVE this series and have so much passion for it’s continuing story Nomura’s heart is never to far away from Sora and his many friends and you can feel it as you play these games they are true passion projects for this team and we are exceedingly lucky that Square ENIX and Disney continue to fund Nomura’s crazy shenanigans Long may it endure.

Since you're asking for more recommendations, here's a few I'd love to see you react to. 1. *Dancing Mad* - FF6 - Nobuo Uematsu is the legendary composer behind most of the Final Fantasy series, and this music from FF6 is one of his best. 2. *Drifting Souls* or *Counterattack* - Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - The Xenoblade Chronicles series has great music all throughout, especially XC3. But these two are two of my favorites. 3. *Megalovania* - Undertale - Undertale is full of great music, and this one tends to be a favorite among fans.

From what I've understood of the Lore, is that the dark horned creature below might be called a "Darkling" where a keyblade wielder is taken over by darkness. Pretty much a version of a concious heartless wich isn't quite explained or in detail even later in the series except by some scenes.

I'd like to recommend most of the OST from Nier Automata, especially "Weight of the World" (there's versions in several different languages, so maybe even reacting to multiple for one video) or "Amusement Park". The OST alone is what got me into the game and it's possibly my favourite video game OST of all time.

From the first 7 notes on that piano, an entire era of my childhood got re-unlocked. Kingdom Hearts may be a Disney game but damn does the soundtrack hit different. When I went back to replay the series, I was stuck on the menu purely because nostalgia. (Also not entirely sure but this sounds like the Kingdom Hearts 2 version of the song)

On a completely unregarded note, can you check out the song “Undefeatable” from Sonic Frontiers? It’s the from the first boss in the game and it hits like a angry sedan owner. Also can you make sure it’s the extended version because the music video from the SonictheHedgehog channel is only the first half.

Okay let's talk seriously. Kingdom hearts is a game, what am I saying, the best game in history in my eyes. This game literally saved my life, taking me out of my dark thoughts and taking me on a simply sublime adventure. The music of Kingdom Hearts is all incredible and always in accordance with the scenes of the game. Dearly Beloved is the first music of the game, when you arrive in the menus. And just with that, we already know that we're going to have a wonderful time on this game. I met the game's composer, Yoko Shimomura during a Kingdom Hearts Orchestra concert in France and this meeting is one of the prettiest of all my life. To be able to tell the person who saved your life thanks to their music is an incredible feeling. I hope to see more Kingdom Hearts here! Dearly Beloved actually is... the title screen music. yes, and this is a version of dearly beloved that is the title screen music for each game. this music really is incredible, it's not an epic music but it simplicity just make it a classic, just like is super mario level 1 music, the legend of zelda theme or tetris music(i know it's not tetris to begin with, but we all know it for tetris). i don't say that it is as much known, but that this is the same way of doing things, that's because they are good and not very complex that they keep represent their game series.

You've gotten so many KH recs, which I adore, but on the discussion of video game music, The Witcher 3 has some beautiful tracks. My favorite is called Wolven Storm, from a cutscene in game. Beautiful song! The game itself has an absolutely fantastic story as well. Excited to hopefully see some more KH reactions though, it's easily my favorite series of all time. :')

I was going to comment on how the original version of Dearly Beloved didn't sound like the one I recognized from KH1, and thought I was confusing it with Chain of Memories. But nah, apparently the uploader of the "original" version just uploaded the KH2 version Though, it's not the worst thing hearing a different version of Dearly Beloved first, they're all meant to be heard before diving into the game. Also, the note about picturing Donald and Goofy on the title screen while this song is playing.... The title screens actually tend to only feature the KH specific characters!

Strictly speaking, this is the version from Kingdom Hearts 2. The *Original* Kingdom Hearts Dearly Beloved did not include the Always on My Mind motif. Every game that happens after KH1 Chronologically does.

I believe this song was supposed to mimic a heartbeat. Plus, I think you have to only worry about copyright for songs with lyrics or anything that is specifically a "Disney" song.

Enter The Darkness is a really good boss theme imo. Its second version, Unbreakable Chains, is particularly intense when playing the console remake of BBS.

I think the ost "la tristesse de xion" or xion sadness in english, is one of the most emotional song of the kingdom hearts. If you have time, please listen, it's a great journey

You should do more Cowboy Bobop anime OST "The Real Folk Blues" - rock/jazz song "Space Lion" - melancholic sax song "Rain (Demo version)" - iconic song used as the prelude to the "church shoot-out scene" "Green Bird" - iconic song used after the "church shoot-out scene"

As some others have probably already mentioned, Dearly Beloved has different renditions for each entry of the game series, including the mobile game. My personal favorite version is the newest one from the newest game Melody of Memory. A Rhythm game for the Kingdom Hearts series. It has the biggest change being a jazz version of theme called Dearly Beloved: Swing Version. He has a version of Dearly Beloved that combines the different versions of all the games out at the time. Considering you love the composer's music so much in this series, I would devinitly suggest one of her more recent works, the soundtrack to Final Fantasy XV. OMNIS LACRIMA, or Somnus for sure. Somnus is so full of emotion, and you really have that subtle KH vibe, but far more mature.
