Henry Abbott No. We are not made of charcoal. We are made up of complex organic molecules containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorus. The carbon is never in it's free state in our body. We become charcoal if our body is burnt after we die because all the oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulphur escape as gases and water vapour. Some of the carbon becomes carbon dioxide but the rest is just carbon. In fact if the burning is done perfectly, no carbon remains at all since it's completely converted to carbon dioxide. Only mineral ash is left behind. Charcoal contains a mixture of hydrocarbons because it's the product of partially combusted wood. These hydrocarbons are really carcinogenic along with the carbon. Our body is designed to take complex molecules as food and not simpler molecules. So it cannot process carbon. If anything, it'll only get damaged by the carbon.

I googled and some sites said it MAY contain carcirogenic agents, some said that its harmful, some said that its harmless. Plus, I have been taking activated charcoal since I was a kid, now Im 18 and Idk, Im fine.
