I have kept most of the main areas of my home to black, gold and hints of red :) Something about those colours make me feel so relaxed!

Black with gold and green as accent colors. The gold and green color combo always reminds me of poison, especially with snake themed decor. This would work really well for Victorian goths, because green was not only a popular color in the Victorian era, but the dye was made with arsenic and highly toxic.

Orange and black for my son's room, mine is red and black, daughter's is white with red blood splatter. We love it☺

I did my bathroom in white silver and ice blue and it looks more gothic then my black and purple room. So white can definitely be gothic.

I don't really have a colour scheme in our house. My husband is obsessed with the 80's era, and isn't Goth, so the decor and colour battles in our house are interesting to say the least.

Mine. Black, sepia, rose gold, and teal. It's extremely calming.

It was interesting seeing all of your work throughout the years, I ordered your book " What is Goth" when I was 17/18 to a local Waterstones. It was the only way I could get my hands on it, in the UK at the time. I am now nearly 32 and it sits proudly in my book collection.

My lair is all black and dark muted teal, with hints of rust and bronze. Like a strange mix of gothic, bohemian, and apocalyptic. Just how I like it, and my taxidermy piranha stands out beautifully on the teal.

I used to think there was no way to get Black and Midnight Blue to work together, but I've seen it done well once. The guy who did it did so by painting the entire room Blue, then painting landscapes, trees, and a Victorian manor entirely in black on the bottom half, and finishing of with a whitish-yellow moon silhouetting the house. It'd be a lot of work, but when done well it looks Stunning!

We have black, warm grey, and a chestnut brown. Wanted to go for a Victorian funeral parlor/doctor's office theme. I know brown isn't very goth at first thought, but it really brings out things like plants, insect displays, and bones. Also that wall with the hands?! That's a fucking rad idea! I want to do that in my bathroom and have them hold towels!

Honestly even if you look at some of the footage from the old goth clubs you see a lot of colors...black and white of course, but also red, crimson, orange, dark green, gold, etc. My own apartment has Orange and Red walls, grey furniture, and a tan ottoman I use as a table for my media devices.

I find that any deep jewel tones work really well, particularly as accent colors! A primarily black aesthetic with, say, some emerald green details can be truly gorgeous.

I love black and green for a gothic lair. Makes me think of absinthe! The slytherin common room from harry potter is black, green, and sepia and it has a really nice and gothic feel. I still prefer purple and black for my room though

I grew up in a very green bedroom, and I don’t want to lose that cozy feel with my future home. This is seriously one of my favorite episodes thus far. Because now I don’t feel as crazy for wanting a monster-green accented room with a gothic black and white color scheme. I’ve been told it’s insane but it’s what makes me feel the most at home.

Black and green (or grey) with gold as an accent color. So long as it's kept to a minimum, a little brightness can make everything else look a lot more subdued and elegant.

One fine, dark, and stormy night I will be able to decorate my home to my tastes. The color scheme I'm most drawn to at the moment is black, brown, and green.

Black and purple has always been a favorite of mine. Throw in some gold accents and it really makes you feel like dark royalty! Though I'm also a fan of black and a nice deep blue, for a more subtle feeling. Silver is also a great accent colour for any gothic colour scheme.

The black wall makes the lair look much better, the red was kinda jarring in transitional scenes, like you were shooting in a completely different place.

My gothic bedroom is grey walls with a hint of lavender, black trim on the walls, black frame of the bed and light fixtures among other accessories, with wooden and magenta pops of color in the bedding and shelves. It's dreamy!

For those who are into the herbal arts there are also a lot of plants that chance for night, such as Jasmine that bloom at night. Much to learn from Earth's night color schemes.

I see a new feature coming on- visiting other gothic lairs! I love monochromatic schemes alternating between flats and glosses. It's very subdued drama.

I love black,white, light blue and silver. I never really thought of these colors as "goth colors" but several years ago someone gave me a dress that was black and light blue...it was beautiful! I loved it! And of course I wore silver jewelry with it.

Green, black, and a dark, wood-tone brown as the accent would make for a good "witchy" gothic color scheme for a room. :)

The good Lady of the Manners (that being Ms. Jillian Venters) lives a life of pink and black and makes that work quite nicely. I believe that so does Toxic Tears and I think that Queenie Black has done some similar things too. I change my colors depending on the space and my mood but one that might surprise people is autumnal colors. At first glance, some might think they can be too bright and cheerful but if you have an amber lamp to light up a living room full of dark items and leaves and moths to accent it, the space can feel like a witch's cottage or a crypt in the fall pretty easily. :)

Not technically goth myself and this is a thought two years later lol, but my homemaking aesthetic is low key the opposite of everyone here, brighter rainbow colors (especially sky blue and light green) with nighttime colors like black and midnight blue as accents. Looks better than it sounds! And goes perfect with my moderny yet fairytale-ish witchy vibe

My goth bedroom as a teen was a rich emerald green and black with dark mahogany wooden furniture. I absolutely loved it and it was my little gothling artist cell of my dreams. Now I just need to buy a place of my own and start my grown up gothic Palace.

My daughter adores pastel goth. She is finding it difficult to acquire pastel skulls, etc. but she perseveres!

I love the idea of a burgundy and cream living room with gold accents. Like an old opera house with a phantom living in the rafters.....

I really wanted my bedroom to be a dark green with black trim. When I found a dark green paint called "Hemlock Green", I was sold!

the gothiest home i've ever seen was actually a old "witch"'s home. nothing matched. it was all thrifted and bolted together over the years... but the amount of bones and taxidermy she had in that house was insane. not to mention her obsession with tim burton merch and her daughters (shes a doctor) artworks(which is all spooky anatomy stuff done in exaggerated style). when she went on her matte black spree she spraypainted her furniture black and sanded it lightly to let all the tacky colors and mishmash wood come out all over again in such an amazing way!. last time i was there it was black mostly, but every color under the sun was still present. her crystals, bones, feathers, plants, and old exposed paint made her house look so beautiful and old. its truly a masterpiece.

My place has a spooky, midnight forest theme so it's mostly dark blue & black with dark wood & a ton of plants. ❤

My favorite color is Payne's Grey, which is a desaturated navy + black mixture. Like a dark, night sky.

- There are even darker black paints: Vantablack, Black 2.0, Black 3.0 (idea for some future project!) - I'm obsessed with optical illusions, puzzle boxes and walls/furniture with secret drawers - My color scheme? I'm a cyberpunk-parrot leaning blue, meets fairy-wannabe on a scarecrow budget XD yet I find goth style really inspiring! - We used to have Smaug caffe in my town, entire top of the bar & ceiling were covered with pour foam insulation and painted black = it looked like a charred dragon's cave :) The foam is light weight, but I guess it needs some structure attached to the walls to hold it (errhm, gravity)

I always wanted midnight blue walls and a bed with black sheets and a red comforter. But I've never been able to do anything like that because my apartment wouldn't let me paint the walls, so I just covered it in posters. Now i live with my husband so we had to sort of mix our styles together but one day, if i can have my own house to paint, ill have a room dedicated to my favorite style. I've always wanted to decorate a room (or a house).

Black & white has always been my scheme since I moved out 17 yrs ago. But this year I finally changed it lol it's Black black & black with dark floral accents mainly in the dusty dark maroon & teal range. It's decadent macabre & gorgeous, not to mention super calming I'm so in love. I pulled out my well worn copy of paint it black & made some lovely floral arrangements so thanks again Voltaire always an inspiration 💜

Me and my husband's apartment is a bit different. Our styles clash, him being more Norse inspired and me loving victorian gothic. So we compromised with a "Queen Ann's Apothecary" theme. Our color scheme is silver and (dark) brown, with midnight blue accents. It sounds crazy, but combining subtle Norse designs, dried flora, spell bottles, and elegant queen Ann furniture makes for a great combo. The blue helps tie in a wintery vibe along with the silver, and the dark brown brings everything together with earthy elegant touches.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I thought keeping that wall red added warmth (the purple adds serenity to me)...okay, whew, you kept some touches of red in the rose and goat head. Very nice!

Black & purple were always my colours of choice. I'd have certain shades of red or a bubblegum pink as subtle highlighting at times, other times using greens. If I look back at my early Gothic/horror influences, the colours were prominent in the Beetlejuice Cartoon, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, etc. Even the covers of other books, like "Even More Short And Shivery" would use them. I figured that it would have just come from those, but I recently discovered baby/toddler pictures of myself also dressed in the same blacks, purples, & pink hues. As for homemaking, my dream has always been a large coffin bed. (With a lid that could be closed in at least 2 segments.) After finding your channel, I feel inspired to not give up on that dream just yet. Thank you!

Not a true goth, but I am an artist who certainly appreciates the dark aesthetic!i love the lair’s new color scheme. If I were to design a lair of my own, I think it would be between a similar one or one involving a crimson or berry red with black.

My place it black and white with pale pink, deep blue and dark deep reds. Down to the point of picking a betta fish that has reds and blues and a black beard although green is also becoming more prominent with our love of aquascaping and carnivorous plants

I think having black + dark/emerald green as your main colors is a great combination, especially if you're going for a "haunted forest" or "evil witch in the woods" kind of aesthetic.

Have a flair for interior deco myself, being an artist, the colors are so important but it's also difficult to pick a scheme, so fortunately we are gutting and renovating our entire cabin. The main room is a beautiful selection of peacock blue tones, with the black trims, rod iron items, crystals, and lightly sprinkled with purple. My personal room, purples and lilac, black of course. The kitchen even, is gothic and since it's close to LR, the blues and cobalt glass with a homemade gothic apothocary is rockin, and my man's personal main lair is BLACK and RED cause my love, well, he's a vampire ya know . Just saying, I'm so glad I don't have to choose ONE, cause each room is special and they all flow together cohesively. IT'S FUN, IS IT NOT? Just love, love, love your show.

After having my bedroom walls white with pastel mint and pink splotches on it and pink carpeting my whole life, we finally redid it. We ripped up the carpeting and added dark grey faux hardwood. Then we painted the walls olive green with a black ceiling. Even replaced the ceiling fan with a white one. Took out my closet wall and opted for a grey curtain instead (but that was mainly because poor building design). Currently my furniture is brown, but I wanna stain the wood black to match my bedding. All in all it's a very earthy vibe, but hopefully I can give it a more gothic feel in the future. This video specifically has given me more motivation to do so too. Thank you!!!

The red and sepia thing makes sense when you consider what they emulate when together, flesh blood and bone.

I think it would be neat to see more gothic decor that makes use of gold! I think gold is a color that looks really striking against black, and could also pair well with white, grey, or purple.

For my ninth grade high school art project we had to pick a musical artist and draw an image related to them with their lyrics in it. I chose Voltaire of course and used the song Almost Human using the album cover but with the lyrics rotating around him. It may have been lazy though the album cover and the song did mean a lot to me back then. Forever and always, my favourite artist.

Best thing about voltaire is that he isn’t just a singer.

As black as my life is, purple is still my favorite color. I, too, cannot paint my apartment, but I also cant live without color. Dark, deep, rich color that being to mind Victorian aesthetic and the Brothers Grimm. Elagance, I feel, can be found anywhere. Snd that's what I love about the Gothic aesthetic and culture. Each one of brings something unique to the community and it continues to change and grow into something more and more beautiful.

I'm a HUGE fan of the classic red-and-black combination--it's easy to find items and clothes in those colours, plus I love the whole "blood and roses" motif.

I really like adding pops of color into mine. Here's some color schemes I've seen and played with myself: One - Black, indigo, white, Blues/Purples, & silver as an accent - These colors make a very nice Galaxy Goth theme, and you can make a galaxy print an accent wall; super fun to paint yourself! Two - Black, grey, HOT PINK, & white as an accent - This can work for any goth really, don't be scared of hot pink! Picture an inverted-color skull with hot pink blood coming from it's eyes! Radioactive blood! Three - "Army Green" tinted black & grey, deep cool-brown, and gold as an accent - I feel this one would make a very earthen Goth happy. Decorate with plants, sepia, and bones and MWAH! Four - All black walls and boarder, with pure white furniture and decor. It's the opposite of the all white walls and black decor. It can be very simplistic, with sharp lines and flat surfaces. OR you can Victorian it up with decorate lounging areas and fake white fur rugs. Both ways you could easily add a white stag head mounted to the wall.

My little lair is pink with black accents. Looks less gothic and more fairy tale, feminine, but all the black baroque fixtures make it spooky!

I move in a week and it'll be my first roommate that's as hyped up about macabre decor as I am, so I'm sitting here on hyperdrive planning DIY ideas. We both work as combat actors in a troupe for ren faires, and our primary factions to fight in are red and purple/Germany and Spain, so we've been talking about using complimentary shades of the two and a lot of black to decorate. I'm absolutely stoked, and so enthralled with this series and all the ideas!! (And absolutely mad I didn't find more of your content sooner- I've been a Steam Powered Giraffe fan for years and my friend Bunny has met you several times, and somehow I managed to consistently forget to look up your work. My room is going to be green, grey, with black and orchid accents. I saw the orchid on a color swatch and it really worked with the green and grey. You never know what goes together until you try.

I personally love green and black. Light mint green up to deep greens. But I'm also obsessed with fall colours. I havent been able to make myself my own lair yet but when I do I think it will be a lot like yours with green as the accent colour. And a bit of those Autumn colours sprinkled about.

This was very helpful. By narrowing the base colours down to just two, you have a lot of accent colours to play with without them overpowering the room. Even using just the base concept of the colour wheel, opposite colours can work just as well as complimentary colours, if done right.

My room has a blue, black, red, purple, and silver color scheme. I used all black walls as a base coat. From there I sponged on a metallic dark silver and then a metallic purple. The ceiling fan that came with the house has a painting of the earth on the light cover. With the jewel toned red, blue, and purple curtains, at night, it feels like the whole room is floating in the void of space.

I like black and white with silver accent. Also purple and green I love as lighting not for materials but the way they play off a monochromatic room is amazing. Red light alone comes in as my secondary choice occasionally mixed with blue light. It is disorientating but so cool. Still think that green/purple does much the same as blue/red but in a creepier way.

I'm so glad to hear your point of view on using the color white in Gothic decor. I love the all white look. Something about it just gives off an eerie vibe, representing oblivion and nothingness. Plus it just makes your wardrobe look blacker in comparison :p

Gods DAMN! "in the YEARS I've been making this show" Has it really been years?? I remember the announcement of Gothic Homemaking! XD Now I feel old and nostalgic at once.

I would accent my room with a Night Sky Blue crossing with Smoky Grey, accented with what I call Jiv N' Jive purple. It's essentially Neon Pink mixed with Neon Purple, and before you say it yes I know it's too strong, that's why I mix in just barely a few drops of Cerulean Blue, because too much would destroy the color entirely. And VOILA, a nice Relaxing color scheme that is Attention Getting as it is Calming and Beautiful. While at the same time still carrying the Goth Like Kinetic Aesthetic.

I've always adored the combinations that can be created by a main color of black with cool jewel tone accents; ruby reds, royal sapphires, and dark amethysts. The pale, delicate tones of dried flowers match nicely with bones and add contrast to heavy blacks. I also love anything dark and sparkly, reminding me of the night sky.

You inspired me to renovate my kitchen. I'm going to go for the color scheme of black, dark green, dark reddish wood, and copper accents. I found a deep green peel n' stick subway tiles on Lowe's website. They are also heat resistant so I'm more confident about installing them near my stove.

Oh, Orville, naughty!! I'm leaning to green, silver and black.... But then we want our media room to be a soothing blue. Ehh, nothing matches in our house now.... why start, LOL! My music room would definitely be silver and grey with green and brown accents, the brown being the instruments. His office may end up black for filming, just a matte deep dark. Black, grey, green and just a little bit of red is the color scheme of my living room. The rest of my apartment shows grey, black and a lot of natural wood colors because I'm more comfortable with a rustic style rather than royalty, and also that's easier to achieve when money is really really tight.

Our living room is a mix of stark white, dark gray, with a lighter gray stained-brick fireplace.
