This is kind of a dumb question cause who cares, but why aren't those actually scored as saves or SOG? The box score shows Shesterkin had 35 saves on 37 SOG, team stats show 37 SOG. Anyone know the ruling on that?

In order for a SOG or save to count, a goaltender has to be the one who stops it. Empty nets shots don't count towards goaltender stats

It would count as a blocked shot, just as if a defender with the goalie in the net blocks a shot and it gets deflected wide of the net.

@@Kayametra Yeah I wouldn't think they'd count towards goalie stats but didn't know they wouldn't count as a SOG? so you can have a goal without a SOG? Isn't that dumb? thanks!

@@swinkmibby I believe it would be a SOG if it went in, but if it's shot and doesn't go in, a goaltender has to be in net for it to be registered as one. As the other guy pointed out, if it's stopped by a skater, in this case Fox, it's just counted as a blocked shot, and blocked shots aren't considered SOGs.

@@Kayametra I don't like this, but thank you! I've been a hockey fan for a long while and this scenario never crossed my mind. I guess it makes sense in that if fox did this exact action in front of the goalie it would be a blocked shot preventing the SOG. Not sure why I'm so effing concerned with giving Fox his two saves, haha. HE EARNED THEM!!
