My favorite pinball machine when I was a teen! Yours plays exactly how I remember it played in late 1975.

I just picked up a Hot Shot at an estate sale yesterday for $150 !!! The backglass and playfield are in great shape, but the cabinet will need some attention, it split open in the front just like yours. I have a "Sure Shot" and a Rack A Ball also !!! I was planning on doing what you did with your games !! put them together in the collection. I am looking forward to fixing this one up.

I have a Big Shot and love it. I did this to mine in Oct of 1999. I need to do it again as it's starting to have issues again. I think it's amazing how much dirt and crap gets into a basically sealed unit. For the Specials I believe you have to clear one of the banks plus the 8 Ball, love the Knocker sound when you hit that target! On mine I posted a video on cleaning the playing field and changing the bumpers. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya

I remember this table when I was a teenager many years ago. I'm a lot more fond of it now than I was back then, although I've always liked the successive "BZZZ-BZZZ" of the targets resetting.

One thing is for sure on that Pinball Arcade it makes me want to seek out and buy the real tables. And my first pinball machine was actually High-Speed which for the longest time was not out until Season 3. And now Season 5 has the Sequal which is The Getaway which I have been wanting to get for a long time to end that collection of H-S pins. :) Thanks for sharing as well! My videos and stream recordings I do are to show how long it really does take to clean and repair EMs and SS machines. And the sad thing is most pinball machines you get you cannot play them right away you have to do some tlc on them. Unless they are brand new out of box.

Cool vid I recently got a gottleib roller coaster 1971 I think and trying to get tips on working on it I found a burned relay and the score board keeps running also won’t load a ball so hopefully the new relay will fix it
@Brak0777
@Brak0777 Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. As far as some tips, if your score motor is still running when you start, do your score reels go to zero? A very common problem is that switches on the score reel are not properly adjusted and the score motor will keep spinning until those switches are adjusted. This would also explain the ball not ejecting because it wont until the score reels are on zero. Good luck!

@@Brak0777 thank you for your response, the scoreboard does not go to zero would the tracking control relay that’s burned cause that or do I have 2 issues and I have to look into that adjustment as well
@Brak0777
@Brak0777 Жыл бұрын
I am not quite sure what the tracking control relay is. Maybe it has another name? As far as the score reels go, check to see if the score reels are attempting to get to zero which would be indicated by a slight rocking motion. If you see that, most likely the switches in the score reel need adjustment. Caution though, Gottlieb switches on the score reels are very difficult and don't like significant adjustments. If you have a score reel that is going to zero properly, look at how they are set up first before any adjustments. A lot of make and break movement as the reel approaches and leaves the numbers 9 thru 0. Just a complete PAIN!!!! ( :

I have a Space Mission EM that is having crazy problems actually a lot of problems. I have new flippers and assembly that are installed so everything is brand new but they chatter like they are old. :| Think they just need some adjustments. The rollover Advance Bonus does not work but when it does it will tilt the machine. The two kickers near the flippers will kick more then once. I have taken a long leave from working on it trying to figure what is the problem. Already cleaned the machine inside and out and adjusted everything and still scratching my head.

They used to have 2 different locks. One for the coin door, open it and grab the key, hanging, for the back cover.

I'm thinking of buying a playmatic Fandango machine. It's electromechanical and I was wondering would it have bells or an alarm?
@VaxxedStories

I have a Fandango for sale for around $2K. Check the Pinside Market for listing. I like the sound of the chimes. Much more pleasant than the electronic sounds of the later machines. Also Playmatic machines are build better than the US ones.

Nice job but I will NEVER understand why anyone even made pinball switch files. Factory cleaning recommends using a plain, uncoated business card. I have personally read this in the service manuals. Also, those switches are self cleaning, so as long as it is played regularly, cleaning of any kind is not normally required. If you MUST get aggressive with switches, use 600 grit sandpaper instead of those horrid files. Those will chew off the gold plating in one swipe. Another critique: If anyone watching this is new to working on pinball machines, never ever fix what is not broken. I am speaking specifically of the switches. When you adjust all the switches at once (including the ones that did not need it), without testing in between, you create the possibility of having to go back and search for something that you did not adjust correctly, and that can be a bitch. Switches are like that. You think you got it, but once it starts flexing and moving, you can find your adjustments are off. I am still trying to help fix a machine where the owner cleaned everything at once and now we are trying to find what is not working. Since you did not realize the key inside the door was for the backbox, I am assuming you have had your fingers inside very many machines. This vid is a few years old now, if you are reading this, do you still have it? How is it doing? Thanks for the video.

I appreciate your approach to pinball repair. There are somethings I did in this video that I would probably not do now. For instance I do not use a file on the soft switches however use a Emory board that is recommended and is less harsh on the switches. Since doing this video I have repaired and sold about 25 machines and have 12 in my collection and the best way I have learned to understand them was too examine everything. I agree, do not adjust switches that don't need to be adjusted however many of the machines I buy have not been played in years therefore a thorough go through is justified due to years of grit and lack of play. This machine was in good shape however was not being played for a while because it was broken. I have not watch this video for a while however I tend to tell people this is my approach and encourage others to find out what works best for them. My mistakes in the past have been my best learning moments and man I have made some mistakes. My hope in putting this video up is to always help people on there journey in a hobby that is so fun and amazing. I hope that people read what you posted and it will help them also. Thanks for the input.

@@Brak0777 Pinball people are the best! Thanks for not taking my comment as a personal attack. When I read it again, I was afraid it would be taken wrong. Like you and most (if not ALL) other pinball collectors/restorers/repairmen, I too learn from my mistakes as there is really no official school for pinball repair anymore. It took me almost 2 years of intermittent work on my Old Chicago to finally figure out why it was adding points on the bonus count down and fix it. Credit where credit is due though; if you went through all of the switches with the bottom board out and disconnected and had no issues afterward, your work is solid! EM's are the best. Absolutely bullet proof if taken care of. I am getting ready to help someone restore a machine that got squished by a car in the garage. They got the cab back together and the G.I. is all lit, but I have no clue what the rest of it will be like. Fingers crossed, no gremlin hunting. Thanks for sharing your work and helping keep these machine alive. If you are interested in an EM shooter project, I will give you a '54 United Jungle Hunt. You just pick it up or pay the shipping. I would help ready it for shipping. Needs one relay a new gun barrel and maybe one or two other minor parts. I can probably help you find a new barrel from a local rifling company that has already offered to let me look through their "oops" pile. If interested, hit me up. I took on too many projects and need to weed some down. I really don't want to see this machine die. I have been able to trigger and see the score motor run and the G.I. lights. Yours if you want it and have a way to get it. I am in Oregon. :)
